"Free market" health care is for all of you too willfully ignorant or blinded by ideology to connect with reality. There's a reason every other industrialized country in the world has SOME form of universal, non-profit, government-taxpayer-financed healthcare system, and why NONE of them would trade their system for ours. A recent poll in Canada, for example, showed that 87.5% of its people supported their nation's universal Medicare system.
Harper's wig will be falling off soon! Watch it, Dannyboy! He's dangerous without hair spray!
Tommy Douglas, the Father of Canada's medicare (Pearson's Minority Government worked with him on this) would be turning in his grave at the thought of an unCanadian who wants to dismantle Canada and sell it to the U.S. piece by piece--Herr Harper! BEWARE
I don't really care, 'cause I would likely do it if I was in his position.
It is his posturing and grandstanding that he has to work on. Same goes for Goodale. As for the rest of the Liberal Party, the ones who primp and preen are numerous.
I agree, if I had the need and the means, I too would go to the States for top class, immediate, treatment.
My beef with Danny Millions is that he opposes allowing people like me, who cannot afford to jet down to a private American clinic, the opportunity to buy supplemental health insurance, which I could afford, that would enable me to by-pass the interminable and growing Canuckistani wait lists.
Medicare is for all you little people. When those who protect and defend Medicare need serious help, there's only one option: take your cash go outside the system. America has the best heart surgery centres in the world, bar none, so I don't blame Danny. But the hypocricy of our system is astounding. Down with death care, down with socialism, up with freedom!
@neilf72 But you ignore the tens of thousands of U.S. citizens who pretend to be Canadians every year to enjoy better, lower-cost healthcare and cheaper pharmaceuticals.
@designwrite The heart surgery was not immediately necessary, there are people who were ahead of him to get it done. Since he could afford it, he went to the USA to pay for it and get it done right away instead of waiting.
Now, I'm sure those patients who had more severe cases than Williams should have been booted out, cause no doubt they couldn't afford private insurance.
I like Danny Williams, and I've been a New Democrat all my life. If he was Tory leader I'd vote Tory. Fuck Harper, facsistic bastard.

@Force10FromMimico Where is the logic in switching political ideology like that?

If the U.S. clones the Canadian system, where will all the big wigs go to get their procedures done?

King Danny to have heart surgery in the U.S. Socialized medicine isn't good enough for people he truly cares about -- like himself.
