There was a guy there whoplayed one of the last songs I think it was Buddy's Favorite his name was Andre Lassalle I think he played a wood colored strat does anyone have a video it was interesting.
He doesn't copy SRV, he copies a Fender Stratocaster through vintage tube amps... so anything you play is going to sound like SRV. But Kenny draws upon the same blues licks that existed long before SRV was shitting in diapers (may he RIP). SRV was a musical genius, but he DID NOT invent a sound... "blues licks" on guitar have existed for nearly a century.
You're exactly right my man.. Just because stevie mastered a certain genre of music (blues) everyone thinks the if someone plays blues music they're copying stevie. so not true
ehh, i don't think the people are focused on the "blues licks" when comparing KWS and SRV. you can't be a great blues player without inspiration from other players. i think the critical comments about the copying of srv thing mainly has to do with the tone. blues players can have riffs inspired by other blues players, but one thing they have that is truly their own is their tone, and personally i think Kenny did a good number on taking that from srv.
Thank you for such an intelligent response. I'm so weary of all these idiots who have nothing better to do than try and drag a good musician down (as if they really could).
not just an influence though, their styles are damn near identical. the resemblance is best seen in Kenny wayne shepherd's "what's goin down" off of ledbetter heights. first time i heard it i thought it *was* stevie.
one main difference though is that Kenny is not self taught like SRV was. if you watch he has many of the picking habits of a lessoned guitarist.
well whats wrong with sounding like stevie? SRV is a awesome and it takes talent to do what he does. Kenny can pull it off. Maybe kenny is the next stevie ray vaughn?

he doesn't just copy srv, and even if that were even at all possible to do, it would still be just as impressive.
