  • After rousing from a day's deep, deep slumber I love to play some Bauhaus on the old Victrola as I prepare to make my nightly rounds.Tonight, I could be with you or waiting in the wings.

  • Ay, esa pinche introducción...

  • Instead of MURPHY'S LAW... me wanna MURPHY BLOW!!!...

  • "fear gives courage wings"

my favorite line in this song

  • burning cigarette in the dark , smell of red wine and the sound of bauhaus: perfect memories!

  • Murphy 100% commitment and pure art : Modern "goth" bands 1% commitment and full of shit celebrity wannabes

  • takes me back to the days when my wardrobe consisted of a variety of shades of black...

  • We Love our audience...

  • One of their happier more romantic songs...

  • busca "El sombrío secreto de la felicidad" en google

  • We love our audience!

  • We love

  • Adoro Bauhaus mas, nunca tinha visto este vídeo. Depois deste vídeo passei gostar mais ainda. Obrigado.

  • The 5 minute version from The Skys Gone Out is even better if u can believe that!

The Stage becomes a ship in flames

I tie you to the mast

    throw your body overboard

    the spotlight doesnt last!

    the spotlight dosent last!

  • @AbsintheColor There is no goth scene now, just emo ppl w/ nothing to do like u. Goth was a scene. I wouldn't be caught dead anywhere w/o hair/clothes/makeup (guys too) I went to clubs almost every night. Everyone knew each other, ppl met at clubs(not the internet) and had sex and did drugs in the bathrooms while watching amazing bands and dancing. There were 100s of ppl in my scene that all hung out. No one lrned how to dress/hair/makeup from the internet, you looked good or got bounced.

  • me pregunto quienes habran sido los imbeciles que dieron un no!!!

    pero en fin,

como me encantaria ver a peter murphy al lado de el dios bowie!!!!

  • Modern Goths? lmao. Modern rip off. It has midieval roots no matter what you say. Dont forget your credit card. Youll need it to keep up with your peers and your gothic lifestyle

  • Comment removed

  • Alot of talk about goth here. Modern Goths were inspired by "gothic horror" of the HP Lovecraft vein. Nothing to do with the dark age barbarians.

  • Well, goth used to be a trend and fad many many years ago. Its 2011. Goth is a style now. no more no less. The rebellion is over. I personally have no interest in being number 50 million on the list to take up the dark "imaginative" dress. hahaha. Id rather open internal perspectives and thought with spending extra cash on weed to tell you the truth.

  • @AbsintheColour Actually, goth is nowadays a style of music, and people who are fans of the music are also referred to as goths. Same with people who are metalheads, emos, and punks. I myself listen to the music a hell of a lot, and dress in a normal t-shirt and jeans. Only time I will actually "dress up" is if my band is playing. I wouldn't say that goth was ever a rebellion, it was just a music style that became popular. But that is just my view on it, I could be completely wrong.

  • @PestileNCe85 I hear ya. There are many truths to it im sure. You sound like a decently reasonable person. Take care alright. Ts and Jeans are whats up lol alright.. you take care

  • @PestileNCe85

um, except it was never that popular to begin with... no one that i know that's not into the 'goth culture' know any Bauhaus songs. I discovered them by accident in '98 when i realized Peter Murphy and Love & Rockets were playing the Resurrection tour together as their old band, & i was just merely curious... but ohhh, i'm SO glad i did cuz it changed my life & i've been wearing mostly black/dark clothes ever since ;-)

  • I wouldnt say nobody cares. Im sure somebody out there can relate. Ill tell you whos really gothic. These people who murder children. Now thats midieval. Goth is a fad. A trend. Its mainly individuals who feel they need to cling to some sort of personal identity that they very apparently lack. Its surface trend really. Thats what ive found.

  • i made a mistake. i left out the word MORE in my comment. Thought id beat u to the punch lol

  • is this what you do dracu? what, you go around grading peoples comments and add a spiteful retort? Must be fun. You must be quite busy as well. Good job. Bitter are we?

  • Comment removed

  • yeah, not too mention, the people who have to flaunt they are goth are really posers ultimately. I mean right? I dont dress on in black all look at me look at me and id consider myself much darker and more gothic than these posers who look at me like im a square just cause I dont have a fickle look at me im goth fashion sense. People are frickin retarded lmao

  • @AbsintheColour

Try punctuation. It may help to make you appear less like an imbecile.

  • @dracu1wamphyri Thanks for the spiteful comment. I wasnt aware i was writing a formal dissertation. Maybe you could grade my sentiments more specifically teach. my sentiments are conveyed just the same. Pompous imbecile

  • @AbsintheColour

Re-read the drivel you originally wrote - "spiteful" may be applied there also. Nobody cares about you, the way you dress, nor your judgement against those that choose to dress in a more imaginative manner than yourself.

  • @dracu1wamphyri Imaginative manner? i dont have a problem with imagination in dress. I have a problem with posers who consider themselves interestingly gothic than me because I cant afford their gothic lifestyle.

  • KINGS OF GOTH!

  • solaceseeker, there was more imagination & subtlety in those days, they created their own style albeit heavily influenced by Bowie but weren't prisoners of uniforms like 'goth' or 'punk'.

  • damn i can't get enough of this song lmao.. 13 listens and counting

  • i'd heard of bauhaus but this is my first time hearing them.. and it's really good!

this is going to sound clueless but.. they don't look very "goth"

  • PETER MURPHY SEMPLICEMENTE M I T I C O O O O O O O!!!!!

  • this is awful

  • superb song. wonder how they would get on on the x factor ?

  • Great track but not so good quality - VHS rip?

  • @wuckle wow, ya think?

  • @indegruv Yeah

  • What's ye old vintage opening song?

  • bellissima..........

  • acoustic bass.....for some reason I think he looks like kevin bacon..they would be a love n rockets video if peter was'nt all up in it..ha !...12 string acoustic...dancing Ninijisky style !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! were dancing on the dark side of this tune ! ! ! my god what made this band for me was you really felt like he meant what hew was saying..

  • <3 this stuff...

  • i read all these comments about punk, goths, and metalheads and how you all see the time that these guys came about.. if you was in that time living and experiancing this following of pure brilliance how fortunate and in front of life were you. you were one of a kind as these guys were. they were untouchable and the sound they produced people now days will never understand. cool then before cool came around. take it easy

  • cosa c'è di meglio a quest'ora della notte? il pianofortino è ipnoticissimo!

  • Peter is really BEAUTIFUL! I'm not gay, btw.

  • GAAAAAAAAAAD I loove bauhaus!

  • One of my favourites !!!!!!LOVE this song...What a classic.

  • love this song

  • It's strange that the same accusations weren't leveled @ The Cure or Joy Division. It took a bloody long time b4 any humour could b detected in Cure songs & as 4 Joy Div well, we all know the story. Imo, Bauhaus, like The Banshees were never depressing. Dark & on occasions disturbing, yes, but also capable of being knowingly ridiculous & laugh out loud funny. If Murphy had topped himself a la Ian Curtis, the music press would b fighting over who could kiss Bauhaus's collective arse the most!

  • @MisAnnThorpe I agree completely, the NME became a joke in The Nineties and a soulless shallow celebhunter in the decade after that, but even in The Eighties it was a partisan. Bauhaus were pure theatre, atmospheric, tangental and never less than interesting. The NME would kill for a band like Bauhaus now.

  • @Spankabuttux Absolutely. So would I!

  • Apparently the band themselves hated this version! To the best of my knowledge, this is the only song on which they used an outside producer (Hugh Jones). Imo, this is vastly superior to the version on The skies gone out. Greatly misunderstood band, by both fans and critics alike. The critics slated them for pretentiousness and taking themselves too seriously. Yet, there was a lot of humour in their songs, during a period when humour was in very short supply.

  • I also love this. Tingly for sure. Reminds me of my 1st serious boyfriend. We were in love (age 18)....ahh ....young love.......Then I grew up at 19 and needed my 'freedom'. Women eh!

  • I really like this song! is one of my favorites

  • Excelente canción, Bauhaus es lo máximo.

  • Wow I had never heard this version before, only the 1979-1983 version, this is great really Bowie like.

  • And nearly 30 years later, this song still gives me goosebumps. Classic ! and what a voice.

  • @somk2 That is how you know a song is perfect!

  • fab...not heard this for years!!

  • "El sombrío secreto de la felicidad"

  • I would love if I get a black suit equal to that of mr. Murphy

  • @danzig5 No, he's married with a daughter.

  • daniel ash was the best great image great musician an icon

  • I want TWO PM CLONES actually!!!.... That way I can have a THREESOME with TWO Peter Murphys at the same time!!!... My idea of fucking HEAVEN ON EARTH!!!.... A VERY "spirit-ual" experience for sure!!! Lol!!!

  • Hey could I put my name down for a clone (or two) as well.

  • Certainly, my dear!!!... There should be ENOUGH Peter Murphy CLONES to go around and keep all of us "MURPHREAKS" happy!!! Lol!!!

  • Since we're on the "subject" of "spirit"... How about talking about the "spirit" of "Christmas", huh??... Can you STUFF yourself into my own DARK ENTRIES, Peter instead of "stuffing" my "stocking" at home??.... It's so MUCH better to GIVE YOURSELF than to just buy someone a "Christmas present", right honey??...

  • LOL I tell you what if I can get Peter to give himself to you how's about getting David to give himself to me? I think that's fair don't you? LOL

  • We never know what "presents" we may find "under" our "trees" this year, don't we??.... Hey, I'd fucking settle for a PM CLONE this holiday instead of the "real one"!!! Lol!!!... You and me NEED to find a LAB that would CLONE the Bauhaus boys we DROOL for SO MUCH!!!... No shit!!!

  • I think we should too then if we wear that clone out they can just make us new ones! Though they might get annoyed with us if they had to replace them every month! LOL Maybe in your case every week ! LOL

  • quite poppy for bauhaus

  • My firend got me for my Bauhuaus C.D with this song on it, my heart been broke since. Thank you for posting this song, my heart can heal.

  • We love our audience

  • Goddamnit, there is no one sexier than Peter.

  • GENIOUS +++++++++++

  • epic

  • One of my all time fave songs. awesome

  • petermurphreak, you must be jealous because you lack of the qualities of Peter Murphy, so please fuck off!

  • ''tonight i could be with you''

    amo esta cancion!!!

  • hey I just noticed around 1.21 murphy has a Tom Cruise moment lol

  • Oh no, it's Tom Cruise who constantly has Peter Murphy moments XP

  • Troof.

  • There's this boy at my school who looks like Peter Murphy a little. Sad that the boy is such a jerk and not like Peter. :D

    I love this song.

  • I was 18 around this time--my boyfriend and I were total Bauhaus worshippers and "Goth", but in those days, in my town, it was called Death Rock.

  • deathrock is a form of goth with bands like Christian Death

  • Oh Baby, brown hair and blue eyes! Ow!

  • Not only "auburn/ brown hair" and "pale blue laser beams" but a slender body with a small waist and a "perky/ firm/ bubble ass"!!! I invite you to look at my "channel background" and you'll be fucking MESMERIZED by Peter's SHAPELY "lower extremities"!!! God I fucking WORSHIP him SO MUCH!!! At age "24" Peter Murphy was fucking GOD "INCARNATE"!!!...

  • Yes,

    Peter Murphy was an Adonis!

  • Bauhaus had a sound like no other band, particularly in the early 80s. I wish I was an adult back then and be a Peter Murphy groupie!

  • I would've sucked his dick back then at the fucking "drop of a hat"!!!! For real!!!

  • i love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Favourite song by Bauhaus <3

  • Peter Murphy looks so handsome.

  • 1.09,oh,yes,i am the ghost girl.I be in her mirror.I frighten he.He is beautiful and too much sexy,he is perfect in this clip,he is too hot.Fuckme, mister goth.Isabel, goth sister of Callysto999.

  • Great song :D!

  • A boring video of my favourite Bauhaus song.

  • Que maravilla de cancion,no la conocia,gracias.Isabel Dhampir Bowie,hermana goth de Callysto999.

  • Its more Love and Rockets, no wonder Peter left...but it's good it's just not Old School Bauhaus

  • I fucking LOVE BOTH though!!! I think Love & Rockets are FUCKING-TASTIC and just as RELEVANT as Bauhaus is!!!...

  • The five year old I babysit was watching this video over my shoulder while I was at my laptop. She remarks that Peter Murphy looks like Count Chocula, lol

  • whats music at beginning of this video? so retro.. and sounds great

  • believe me there are yanks who really do "get" bauhaus. they were always more than a goth band 2 me. they seemed way 2 smart 2 b just a trend band. all we ever wanted seems like a song about growing up poor and ambitious.

yeah, bauhaus also had a sense of humor, unlike the current crop of "emo" bands out there....got the chance 2 see them in 1996 or 1998. glad i did.

  • And some young yanks too. lol I came across a 12 year old on youtube who lists Klaus Nomi and Bauhaus as favorite bands. Warms my heart. (smart kid too)

You know, I think in America 'goth' just isn't as much of a lifestyle. There's some crazies here too, yeah, but most people I've met who are 'goth' or like 'gothic things' aren't steriotypical. I think that's why calling something 'goth' isn't such an insult from our cultures perspective? Granted that may be regional.

  • I love watching their videos and their old live performances. They're so amazing! (and this is one of my favorites<3)

  • what are their relative heights? Thanks

  • Funny how Bauhaus are considered such a "goth" band, and yet they were capable of something as uplifting, joyful, and optimistic as this......simply sublime!

  • OMFG! This is my all time favorite Bauhaus song. I've haven't heard it in years. Love Peter Murphy ! An artist who IMO is way ahead of his time. There music sounds even better today! Mark

  • Keep up the good work and you'll be democratically voted out. As for lighting your arse, good luck with that.

  • unfunny

  • That's just the kind of BS response I expected. Just go and jerk off somewhere else.

  • Comment removed

  • Bauhaus are timeless but pleae stop writing divy comments. You're ruining their memory.

  • @CptSuntan and stop posting crappy quality audio videos here, this is clipped, staticky and the channel balance is totally f'ckd. Delete this video, it's an insult to the memory of Bauhaus

  • Maxell...break the sound barrier...!!!

  • I think Peter should've come with a "label" back then that said... Warning: "Looking at this gorgeous creature may induce severe cravings for boys with pale blue eyes, high cheekbones, cherry red lips, slender bodies with small waists, bubble asses, sultry voices and enigmatic personalities that can hold you captive with their presence" "Too much exposure to such creature may cause addiction and withdrawal once you try to quit.... so try to view in "moderation"....

  • u just described my version of the perfect man!

  • His fucking-licious body such come with a label saying : "Apply hands and mouth" all over!!!!

  • Peter may have been the visual aspect of Bauhaus with his to die for cheekbones, but Danny's dark, sinister, textural and experimental, effects driven guitar parts were the bedrock of the band. Peter's baritone vocal style, and ambiguos gloom and doom lyrics were icing on the cake.

  • Danny made the right choice back when he formed Bauhaus. He recruited his "pal" Peter because he had the right "image/look" for his "new band" and not only did his delicious "pal" had fucking looks to kill, but he had a fucking great voice!!!... So without Peter as a frontman , I know Bauhaus wouldn't have been the same at all!!! Don't get me wrong I totally love the other three boys!!! but my "devotion" is to Peter!!!...

  • Peter stands out for sure. yes. ;)

  • the spotlight doesnt \ last

  • I've only heard the album version before now. Would this be the uh... single version?

Clearly not as good, but I like a bit of variety.

  • actually I like this version better than the album version

  • I'm 41.

I love Bauhaus, Murphy and Love & Rockets.

I'm agree with The 1mercenary, the album source is much better than this ridiculous version.

When this version came out, I just couldn't believe my ears.

    The video clip also sucks.

  • Haha im 15 n I LOVE Bauhaus :)

  • Haha, you like to draw attention to yourself! A lot. :)

  • I love the video, personaly. But then, I like some lighter music.

Of course, I haven't heard the album version yet... can't say wich I'd like more. But I enjoy this version quite a lot.

  • Peter Murphy omg no one like him^^

  • Commercial? Poppy? Compared to what? Not a lot of pop sounded like this in 1983. Youth can be robbed of context.

  • It's true. Doesn't it seem like a lot of the 80's music has a lost history? I'm only 25, so I only remember a little bit of the songs I heard in the 80's. I'm trying to learn more about punk, post punk, original goth rock, New Wave, and synth pop, but there are so many genres and so little info to start off with. I may never have even heard of the Bauhaus if not for a Japanese band named Buck-Tick. I'm so lucky that somehow this music has reached me across time and language barriers!

  • A very poppy commercial version for sure, I prefer the album source, but still Bauhaus is one the most influencial bands, they started a whole new genre, dark brooding and moody. R.I.P. Bauhaus

  • Are you one?

  • Peter Murphy is a great showman.

  • Performer. He usually refers to PM in this way. This is their only pop song and video. The live version on dvd "Shadows of Light " is great and of course different.

  • I like this song but I prefer the version from the album better. I don't know where this "radio" version came from but they should've kept to the original.

  • How old are you? If you don't mind me asking in public?

  • this is awesome

  • Great band

  • This was my first Bauhaus song and my first favorite video. I carry it with me in my heart.

  • I love this video, it's definitely one of their better ones....

  • Of all Bauhaus songs I think this is my fav.!

  • the best, ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love love love love the Bauhaus....that is all

  • I may tap you on the shoulder, and whisper "go" in red. Strip your feet of lead my friend, strip your feet of lead....

  • Great song!

  • I migliori. Grande tensione interiore, ottimo sound, li ascolti e non sei mai solo....

  • LA MEJOR BANDA,LOS DEMAS NO EXINTEN

  • This song is soo good it gives me shivers.

I'm wondering what its about though. Anyone know?

  • I think it's a song about performing for people and the joy that it can bring when everything goes perfectly ("We love our audience!"). The 'Spirit' is the nervous energy rush you get before putting on a show of any kind, which is why the video seems be entirely on stages and in dressing rooms.

"I fill you up with butterflies,

    Crown the heads of kings.

    Be glad of first-night nerves,

    For fear gives courage wings!"

Least that's the way I see it.

  • when i have to do something that makes me nervous i think of that be glad of first night nerves for fear gives corrage wings

  • It is such a beautiful line. I don't beleave I've ever heard any quote that expressed that fealing so well. This is the mark of great poetry.

  • The lyrics to this song clearly describes the perils of theatrical life. PM has managed to avoid. those snares between tours/cds by retreating to a normal life. How novel!!

  • hello. writing, reflecting on bauhaus from an internet bar in hong kong. thing bout bauhaus is that their music was so good that fans were attracted 2 their music regardless of personal backgroundz, genres, etc.even da last lp they put out last year was damn cool. i havent run in2 any goth down in asia yet, but im sure they're around. placebo plays a show here in august.( im not in2 placebo that much, but i guess they could b mistaken 4 "goth" by 12year olds with bad attitudes & hair) enjoy....

  • I think you're right.
