  • I have to say, I've watched over 20 youtube videos today finding out how to hardwire and mount the radar detector and your video showed me step by step on how to do it. Thank you so much for taking your time and making this video. Again thank you so much!

  • LOL the last line in the Youtube transcribe audio is "boobies for free"

  • Is the slot for no. 8 fuse 7.5 amps in your owner's manual? I'm also reading my owner's manual and there is also has empty slot says "accessory" 7.5 amps to plug the add a circuit. I got the redline and i don't know how many amps of add a circuit to use on my radar. Many thanks....

  • How would you compare the new 9500IX came out in the market vs yours? Some people say that the STI driver has a good for long distance but has so many false alerts.

  • @lil123ives Just for the record, I use a Valentine 1 (V1) now. The 9500ix is a much quieter detector than the STi and V1. If you do alot of city driving it may be the way to go if false signals annoy you. The STi and V1 will give you better performance though as they are both very sensitive units. I need this for driving in Edmonton, mainly because of the VERY low powered photo radar units that our city's police use here. Also, the STi is the only one you can use if RDs are illegal where u are.

  • very good video with simple explanation. Thanks a lot! Im going to be doing this with my Audi TT :) You made it look very easy with your good camera angles and lighting. Thanks again!

  • At 02:31 I notice you've also got an inline fuse in your wiring kit. What size/rating/amp glass fuse is in there?

  • @straydoggio It's a 2 amp glass fuse

  • @jarus187 Good job man, good video. I'm gonna hook up an incar DVR video-recording unit in my Mom's car the same way you did your radar unit. (YouTube "DVR-047", and also ebay "In Vehicle Car DVR Camcorder Camera Road Video Recorder", seller = hopezone001). Quality video recording units and only $40 inclusive of delivery from Hong Kong, but not with an SD card. )My car's a bit older (pre CANBUS) so I simply wired my car-cam onto a relay for ignition switch live, with a ground and inline fuse.

  • i was cool with the video until 2:22, an automatic? nice video either way

  • Hows the sti performed?

  • @2kargarage1 Very well, its still one of the best portable radar detectors out there.

  • @jarus187 : better than the 9500ix?

  • yeah hope wires never gets wrapped round your leg while your driving lol

  • @kristy8489 The wires are fastened away.

  • Are you from Canada..? sucks that is ilegal in nearly all providences over there... is legal in nearly everywhere here in the US... PIG OWN!

  • @aftermathsample305 It's legal where I live

  • Automatic....

  • 5*s

  • doesn't your mirror block the rear detection?

  • hey question!

there are two options for an add-a-circuit

    ato and mini

    i have a civic 09 .. which one should i get?

  • @Spareshot93 All the fuses in the interior fuse box are minis

  • Hey, great vid! I have one question.

Do you know if any bolt with a metal base would do or will I need to find a bolt with a current going through it?

  • @Kilogram24 Thanks! Any bolt/screw with a metal base will do.

  • @jarus187

Just hard-wired the detector 2 days ago the way you showed here. Worked great! One thing that was different from your vid was that I had to have both fuses in the add-a-circuit. Took me a while to figure that out. But other than that, awesome! Thanks for posting!

Just hard-wired the detector 2 days ago the way you showed here. Worked great! One thing that was different from your vid was that I had to have both fuses in the add-a-circuit for some reason to complete the circuit. Took me a while to figure that out. But other than that, awesome! Thanks for posting!

  • OK thanks a lot for the reply. Cheers.

  • hey how do you know what amp fuse to use? I can get the addacircuit but they come in all different amps with 10amps being the lowest i can get.

  • @cognoscenti2011 Fuses are there to blow and protect your radar detector in case there is too much current flowing through the wire. As a general guideline, most radar detectors do not use more than 2 amps, so ideally, I would use a 2 amp fuse. The reason why I used a 5 amp fuse is because it was the lowest one I had, AND ALSO because the Beltronics STi Driver has its own inline 2 amp fuse (you can see it at 2:30). So even if the fuse in the Add-A-Circuit doesn't blow, the inline fuse will.

  • @cognoscenti2011 By the way, you can buy smaller rated fuses at any automotive part shop. The 2 amp one is a grey color (in the video I used a 5 amp, orange color)

  • great video. diy are awesome ways to learn your car

  • Very nice video sir and thanks!

  • "Add-A-Circuit" Lol. Took me forever to figure out what you were saying. Of course, it makes perfect sense.

  • 5 amp fuse ? sholdn't that be a 2 amp fuse ? ...anyway...does anyone know which pin is + and which - on an original beltronics cable ? i mean the litle phone like plug in. i don't have the cable, i need to make one and i don't know which one is -/+.

  • This was a great video. I just finished wiring my STI the same way in my Accord. Thanks! Check out my channel.

  • hey man. Good video. What is that circuit thing called? ADA?

  • @JituBhai84 Sorry I was speaking too fast. It's an "Add-A-Circuit"

  • they only charged me 5 dollars in new zealand at a auto sparky

  • THANKS FOR VID VERY HELPFUL

  • i need to hardwire my Whistler XTR 695. I ordered the direct wire kit, do i need this circuit deal also?

I have the bubble crap on my windscreen also, so will have to put it somewhere

  • woo, lucky me, I have the same exact car. Thinking about getting an radar for it these day. Don't take it down yet! lol

  • can you post pics of your updated mount, i'm trying to mount mine of a 2006 toyota camry and i'm debating between a visor mount or a windshield mount. the problem is on the windshield i have to mount it off to the side because right above the rearview mirror there is this small textured dotted area on the windshield that won't let suction cups stick... the other question is, if you do have to mount on the visor/windshield, is driver's side or passenger side better?

  • where can i buy a cheap radar

    detector

  • ebay but u get wat u pay 4

  • Very nice video! It was very helpful and I always refer this video to people who want to know how to hardwire their radar detector.

  • Thanks! I'm happy many people found it helpful.

  • anyways thank you very much for makeing this video it will well explaned and very very helpfull

  • im just wondering why beltronics made a radar detector thats a windscreen mounted model thats undetectable why wouldnt you just make one thats bult in to the grill of your car. the police will still see it even if it cant be detected by RDD.

  • Well if you goto Beltronics website, they have about 4 different models that are ment to be built into your vehicle ... The one called - STI-R , is a remote undecteable by any Rdd's on the market as advertised by there website.. and it comes with Laser shifters or somthing it looks rather fun. accept the price tag is ,$1,099 but it is rather cheap compared to other brands from other companies for built in remote radar/laser systems.

  • just wondering why you put your radar right behide the mirror you cant see it there

  • I've updated my setup since then. Its high above the rear view mirror now. Much better spot!

  • i find just by experince that it's better to have your radar detector mounted closer to the drivers side on the wind screen because it allows the radar detector to see past trafic better. i have mine mounted up high the suckion cips are on the tinit at the top of my windscreen. you know the blue UV tint so you cant see the cups. how ever the antena is sticking out just under the tint so it wont affect the range

  • HAHA nice windowwipers ^_^ just playini do that alot with my 08 civic si. i ordered a detector today and was wondering if i can stick it above the rearviewmirror instead of under like yours. idk pst me back

  • Sure you can! Thats where I have my V1 right now; above my RVM.

  • Its quite absurd about how much bestbuy would charge you to hardwire your RD

    Nice vid!

  • Has it helped with laser radars?

  • what kind of circuit do you need to get...i also have a honda civic 2007 american version

  • theres no such thing as an "american" honda, i dont care what the dealer says or what it says on the papers, there will never be an american Honda. Unless its the big three (or the other small american car companies saturn,saab,etc..) then no its still JAP.

  • stupid...i was refering to the version...i know hondas are not american but they do vary on where you live. European hondas arent the same as hondas manufactured in america.

  • k ...im the stupid one.... supporting our country in economicall downfall by buying a car from the "big 3" that almost didnt get bailed out but ye...im stupid....and u buy a jap car recently...cool.

  • maybe they should make better quality cars...not my fault

  • better quality? so whats bad about them? besides ur little rice maker, and have ur opinions i dnt give a shit cuz either way u should be supporting the united states of America and not send ur money to those skinny eyed bastards in jap land. now go make me some raman noodles u chink.

  • first off i aint no chink! im probably as white as you. theres no point in arguing with you because you took what i wrote and took it out of context. i know which cars are reliable and whats not. trust me i had american. wont go back to it again unless if its a mustang. that last comment shows how racist you are. your probably some red neck freak livin in the midwest.

  • sorry u take this times of economy so lighty, i for one definetly do not, believe or not one american car at a time can and does help stimulate our economy, but then ignorant people like you go out and buy and 20,000 car that $ could go into our economy but instead is fed right back to the chinese.

  • Lol. Make up your mind man. Chinese or Jap? lol. BTW, you wanna why the "big 3" are going bankrupt? Cause their cars are big pieces of shit that fall apart every 500 miles lol.

  • oops, I mean "where" do I get that 3m connecter? lol

  • It should come with the hardwire kit. If you don't have it, just google "3M T-Tap Connector" and it should show online stores you can get it from.

  • this video really helped me a lot.

    Thanks,

When do I get that "3M connector"?

  • hey man i love your video but how ever i still have a Question is there a way so u can hide the detector from view because u can still see it on the windscreen. can't they pull u over if they see it attached to your windscreen and your in a area where radar detectors are Illegal

  • What you can do is get a visor holder for your radar detector. I think radarbustersDOTcom sells them. Just go to their website and check under "Radar Detector accessories", and they have the sun visor on sale for about $20.

I know another dude who mounted it inside his rear headrest. Go to radardetectorDOTnet and paste this into the search:

Guys mount V1 in rear headrest and speaker

  • Thank you man, this video help me a lot!!!

  • You're very welcome!

  • okay, that blue piece on the add a circuit came with the direct wire kit, and I did everything you do, even put it into fuse #8, but the detector wont turn on...I'm stumped!...I have no Idea what to do!...Why won't it turn on??

  • Ok lets try to troubleshoot this,

    1. Try turning the add a circuit the other way around (180 degrees) in the #8 slot and see if that helps. You may have reversed it.

    2. Make sure the ground point is fastened correctly, also the ground point has to be the bolt with a metal base. Some bolts under the dash have a plastic base, and that wont work.

  • #2 was it! haha I didn't fasten the ground tight enough, so it didn't work...I fixed it, and now it's good to go!!...thanks for your help!!

  • Good stuff!

  • thanks again, man!! Great Video! It helped me more than I can explain!

  • Where did you buy your "add a circut"?...I have an SI, and I don't want to void the warranty either! lol...

P.S. Great Video man, looks as though you went to professionals!

  • lol thanks man. I'm actually quite amaturish when it comes to car electronics, I just figured out how to do it myself and I wanted to show people that even a noobie like me can do it. I live in Canada so I bought mine from Canadian Tire. But in the states Pep Boys usually carries them. They may go under the name "Add a fuse" as well. Like sebulbus said, you can also just crimp the spade connector rather than use a tap. It all works.

  • What do you mean the spade connector?...I got the Add-A-Fuse yesterday, but it doesn't have the blue thing that your's has, it only has a crimper, so does the clear thing that comes on the end of the wire for the detector that you put together with that blue extra on the add-a-fuse come off so you can crimp the wire to the fuse??

  • The spade connector is that blue sleeve on the end of a add a circuit (the crimper). That blue thing that on the add a circuit in my video is called the 3M T-Tap Connector. 2 of them came with my Bel STi hardwire kit and I attached one onto the add-a-circuit so I could attach the clear thing on the end of the positive wire into it (@6:13 in the video). Didn't your 9500i kit have one too?

  • If it didn't come with them, you can just strip off the clear thing at the end of the positive wire, expose the wire a bit, and crimp it into the spade connector. Or buy a 3M T-Tap connector and just finish off as I did in the video. Check your mailbox, I sent you a link to how a 3M T-Tap looks like.

  • nope, the 9500i didn't come with that...

  • That's way better.

I just use Bison auto tape on the original bracket. Held it firmly in place through serious potholes at -20 C. Highly recommended.

You can also find gel lock crimp connectors, no need to worry with additional insulation like heat shrink then.

To keep the wire in place I generally roll electrical tape on it, with the sticky side outwards. That way it grips the headliner/ceiling and stays put.

  • Dude, that is seriously wrong.

    1. Add-a-circuit. Crimp the spade conn. off the remote wire and crimp it into the blue splice. It's way better than the tap.

    2. Reroute the STi wire. The way you put it it's right where the curtains deploy. Look at a side crash test vid. They don't deploy towards the windshield.

Final tip, remove the suction cups and use double sided tape to fix the bracket above mirror, in the dotted part. Much harder to see from outside, works just as well.

  • Thanks for the tips; especially the airbag deployment. I actually made this video a while ago before I was experienced with this kinda stuff.

But I used the spade connection for my laser jammer so its not like it's still empty. I've upgraded my STi to a V1 now and I used Superlock fasteners on the dot matrix which is higher up for more range on your radar detector, and harder to see from the outside.

Maybe I should make a followup video highlighting these things.

  • what are superlock fasteners?...and would you use the suction cups on top of it?...I'm gonna try to mount my 9500i high up as well!

  • Superlock fasteners is basically Velcro on steroids; it can carry 4 lbs per square inch! They go under the Superlock tradename at Radioshack, and Target has them under the "3M Dual Lock" name...in the hardware section mind you!

This link has more info about them:

    andybaird[DOT]com/travels/gert ie/superlock.htm

I also messaged you a link to some Superlock install pictures.

  • excellent vid man...beautiful!!

  • Many thanks.......great vid

  • does anyone have any tips for mounting it low?

  • just run it across the front of the dash between the window then down the side under the dash. or most car places you can go and have them put it in for pretty cheap and you wont have any wires just hanging around under your dash

  • 8thcivic rep +1

  • Great Video, thanks for adding this!!!
