Can anyone tell me if the ferret odor is bad enough to not want to buy one? I want one bad but how bad is the smell. Is there a way to make the smell less intense? If so, what is the best method. Please reply. Thanks

@jthusmann40 ferrets odor is not really that bad if u keep up with cleaning their cage and only give them a bath once a month or every 2 months. also if you give them all the vitamins they need they will usually release less of an odor i have two a male and female the males tend to stink more than females but if u keep at it they wont smell worse than a healthy dog

@jthusmann40 Another thing you can do is get them implants. The implants are alot safer than neutering them because if you neuter them then they can have a shorter lifespan.Implants also stop their hormones therefore reducing their odor

@jthusmann40 they are a lot of work. I had a ferret that would sneak out of it's cage no matter what I did to that cage. I would only put them in the cage when I left for school, otherwise I would let him play around the room. I tried to wire the cage shut I tried just about everything and it found a way to get out. I'm sure even if I had a wooden door the ferret would find a way to break it down.I didn't put him in cage so he woulnt get hurt. then he made big messes when I was at school.ha

@lalagirl135 I keep a window open for my Ferrets, and you have to constantly keep their cages clean. Ferrets don't smell as bad if you take out the scent gland they have, but that's bad for them so I suggest not doing it. Just tell your mom you'll have a fan pointing towards the window, while the window is open. It probably smelt like ferret in your room because of the liter box. So keep that clean and you should be fine. :]
