  • "Now what do you do? Exactly. Not like you don't do anything but more like, what exactly do you do?"

  • what was that last tid-bit thing from?

  • I like POS but I think he needs to get over his complex conditions that he applies to other bands and his fans

  • well he accomplished what he set out to do. Make good music.

  • Lifetime! SDRL! KNAPSACK!

He loves all the weirdo music I do!

    More reasons to love P.O.S.

  • so much respect for this dude... He really sees the music scene for what it is without blindingly hating on anyone. Takes a lot of experience and intelligence to think that way.

  • he's right

  • Steph you are so great! Congrats on everything!

  • Agree 100% real raw originality. Good Lookin P.O.S.! us MPLS kids appreciate it.. the world will soon enough

  • basicaly, do what you like and be what you say you are is all he's saying. embracing it mentally and putting it into practice. If you practice what you preach, whatever you preach then he has respect for you, if you dont then your all talk and you dont deserve it, simple as that

  • Amazing interview.

I agree with him on all fronts.

  • hell yeah words in my mind that i couldn't speak.

  • Ill Patriot shirt. Nice.

  • Dude spends time on his lyrics and music so he wants people to actually listen to it and hear what he has to say. cuz thats kind of the point of making a rap record is to say something. this interview made sense i thought.

  • wow. he makes good music but what the fuck is wrong with him? Why would you hate on another band because they are famous? Maybe they were inspired by what someone else did so they wanted to make music similar, what is wrong with that?

And he says he doesnt like the casual fan? The only reason i know and like the guy is because he is signed to the same label as atmosphere, and i saw him on mtv. So he better get ready for alot of fans he doesnt like because that is what he is going to get.

  • i think he is against a "famous" band because a lot of times fame runs hand in hand with becoming a "sell out". i hate it when bands sell out but it still happens, however, fame should not be a measure of how someone has sold out. And as for casual fans, i think he really wants people to understand his music and go farther than just listening to his music. He wants to spread something and inspire people, but that can't be done if people are just casually listening.

  • Slug said it himself " when you sell your first cd you immediately become a sell out"

  • hes just sayin that he doesnt what to he the normal shit that most of the artist's now are making. shit that never has ever been heard before. i am not a big fan of him but i can under stand what he is getting at

  • Not if he keeps saying he doesn't like them in interviews like this.

    :D

  • If you understand what he is rapping about and agree with its philosophu being a "casual" fan isn't really an option.

  • so i cant like an artist without embracing every philosophy they push on you then i not a fan? Huh? I dont get what you are saying. I like his music and thats all it is. I have no interest in modeling my life after a musician because im a grown man and i live my life the way i want. POS isnt materialistic but some people are and there is nothing wrong with that.

  • His music and his philosophy are one in the same. If you just listen to it for the sound of it, then you're not putting enough intellectual investment into his music for you to be relevant to him as a fan of his art. The fact that you think it's OK to be materialistic is a perfect example of why he hates "fans" like you. Either hypocritical ambiguities or ignorant hipsters make up the "casual" fanbase.

  • I think he hates people that dont understand his message. I understand it all. But i like my life, my job, my cars, my clothes. I like it all and when i met him this summer i told him and he had no problem with it if it was what made me happy. The guy is younger than me and not my dad so why would i try to copy him? I am myself and like it. You need to figure out what you want for your life instead of what a talented musician wants you to do. No different than a teacher at school man. get a life

  • I know exactly what I want from my life, and it isn't the same thing as what stef wants. That doesn't mean I'm stupid enough to say I like his music while rejecting his philosophy.

  • a tru talented artist. anybody kno the track in playin in the background????

  • "Dots and Dashes" by Doomtree. Get the whole album...you will not be disappointed.

  • saw that dude live at first ave last night. got myself a signed copy of this album.

  • pissed off stef is exactly like mf doom man, except stef adds his punk iffluence, i mean they both and mf doom need to make some tracks together, that would be..no scratch that madvillain and , idk what the name of that collab would be tho, suggestions? P.O.S. villain, thats ight, the villain and P.O.S.. thats too simple srry if this is long as shit im on aderol fyi yea if thats not almost tryin 2 prove im a drug addict, which im rly not, anyway like Promise of Villainy, Pissed of villain mfdoom

  • MF Doomtree.

  • Stef Alexander is brilliant. "challenging" to the listener. Audition is really catchy and is easy to adapt to catchy lyrics but Never Better if you truly take the time to sit down and listen to the message he is portraying, making clear there's a distinct difference and you can tell how he's grown. He wants support of real fans who take the lyrics to heart and take him seriously, not just because he's signed by Rhymesayers but for creating a new genre of music. never better tour was incredible

  • yeah never better is a real cd. and P.o.s is right in this video about bands today, there is no originality anymore when it comes to music. Glad to listen to a musician who understands that and trys hard to be more original.

  • "the beats are designed to be more challenging" he says... It's music. There's no challenge in listening. I like P.O.S. but that right there is downright pretentious.

  • It sounds like that at first, but have you listened to Never Better? I didn't like it at first but after the 4th or 5th time through I am hooked. Some of the songs just leave me speechless, it's a new genre of music.

  • yeah I have never better. I'm not talking about the music itself, just the fact that some people think their music is more challenging (away from the norm, higher quality, maybe, but "challenging"?)... It's a complete lack of humility, in my opinion.

  • ooooooo, ok. I think by challenging he means to the listener, like its hard to listen to, which for POS, is true a lot of the time, some of his songs are just plain hard to listen to at first. but ya, if he is talking about his own productive that is kinda arrogant, haha.

  • I'm with you there. Sounds like "fame" got to his head a bit. I love his music, and he seemed like a pretty chill dude when i met him, but isn't "challenging the listener" just a built-in scapegoat? If I happened to not like his album (which I do...), it really just means that I'm "not really listening?" The fact that he seems to not really care if he alienates fans...I don't care for that attitude.

I'm not trying to talk shit. I am a huge fan, just got a bit irritated by this interview.

  • I know think I know what you're saying, but I think it's really less of him alienating his fans than him calling himself out. He's acknowledging that he's grown up in music and has made a record that really reflects himself. I think that as an artist you have to do that at some point. I've got a lot of love for DoomTree.

  • True. I think I spoke too soon...should have waited to hear the album before judging (the album was not out yet when I made that comment). I can now see what he was talking about.

The album is amazing. It was actually a lot more accessible than I was expecting after seeing this interview.

  • i think he was just saying that hes getting irritated by kids not listening to his message

  • He was wearing that shirt when I saw him perform.

  • BuIlDiNg BeTtEr BoMbS!.... . . word.

  • He is so honest about the state of music and his "fake" fans. I have alot of respect for him and the whole Doomtree crew because there doing something different..like it or not.

  • december at the blowout.

  • Is he talking about the crew album or his new album? If he's talking about his new album, does anyone have an idea of when we can expect it?
