The Clash WAS Mick Jones. He started it, he picked all the members, he wrote most the music and basically produced the albums and singles (except for Rope). Joe was a brilliant lyricist and frontman, but he was NOT The Clash....Jonesy was, that's the truth. He's far too humble...but it's long past time that credit go to the man who deserves it....and that is Mick Jones.
Well put. Mick should easily go down as one of the all time great rockers. He is, as you write, humble. And an excellent post-Clash career indicates he's not one to rest on his proverbial laurels.
wuz blesses 2 see em wiff mom n dad at wiiliam and mary hary hall on combat rock tour with best drummer bro m8 in 8th grade! god bless joe rip and long live the tunez!!!! SMOKING MENTHOLZ
I think we can't say: "I'm born in the wrong generation"!
I think if Lady Gaga, Justin Bieberfag and each other is on Tv 24 hours at day it's because we don't take a FUCKING guitar and don't make a revolution! I think we can change the thinks!
@JMRDWHO You mean you want band members who can sing AND play a musical instrument in coordination with other people? Those days are over. It's all American Idol, and DJs.
I remember this video being played on ALTERNATIVE NATION and 120 MINUTES when I was getting into music. I used to tape videos on a vhs tape and watch them over and over. This was one of the songs I always got into and repeated. Same with THE DEAD MILKMEN. Good stuff. Shitty times, but good tunes. That was the late 80's.
Sm57 is the most underrated vocal mic ever. Over course it's the most over rated mic on everything else but if it works on vocals thats all it needs to do.
@buntefuss what else to say? How's about way to adopt the attitude your own parent's generation was saying about who you idolized. They liked Paul Anka and Frank Sinatra. You didn't listen to them when you liked the Clash-and now you can't stand the idea that 50 Cent is your nephew's hero. History repeating and you've grown close minded.
i got raised with music from bob marley, bob dylan etc. i don´t think that music that ´bout drug dealing and gang shooting etc is good for an 14 year old. there were times when music had a message. and i am a person who listen to every (!) music. classic, reggae folk.. etc. but i do think that music can influence your behaviour when you growing up and that someone like 50cent who´s only achievment is that he survived gang shooting is a good idol for a kid. thats to say ;)
@Diogodeamorim I know how you feel man, Joe was dead before i was old enough to love the clash, I'm gutted every time i listen to them that i won't ever get the oppurtunity to see them live
I am happy with who I am, I love myself and think Im pretty awesome, BUT if I could be anyone else ever, that person would be Joe Strummer. God rest his soul.
@Diogodeamorim I did, it was everything you could have imagined! Joe Strummer and Mick Jones came out and challenged us, calling us basically provincial American hicks..the crowd went wild and had an attitude all thru the show, probably just what they intended. They rattled off 14 songs in a stataccoo machine gun fashion and then left the stage with a flourish I'd not seen before
@Diogodeamorim Don't worry! You can still go see Nickelback, or the Jonas Brothers, Or Pussycat Dolls, or Lady Gaga, or Katy Perry, or Justin Beiber, or Chris Brown, or Nicki Minaj, or Lil Wayne
hey, heres a thing: pause at 0:50, look the picture. Im a green day fan, and i noitced that maybe, their new look were inspirede by clash, so everyones thinking, "oh yeah? serious?" and i know, green day today is shit, and this to me, talking so much of clash into their visual its a liite bit, "wannabe memorable punk band, as clash"
Amazing. They must all have been able to play all parts and instruments - for Guns of Brixton Paul switches guitars with Joe, here Joe and Mick do it! BEST ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD FOREVER
The main reason I fuckin' love this song is because Mick and Joe swinged their roles for this song ... The lead singer became the lead guitar, and Mick is singing !
Is that Mick Jones going crazy on the guitar @ 0:30-0:35?
I wanted to write something about how much the clash has ment to me and punkrock in general, but everything has already been said so Im just going to end with this: "This is my Indian summer...I learnt that fame is an illusion & everything about it is just a joke. I'm far more dangerous now, because I don't care at all. ”
I remember being caught writing the lyrics to London Calling on my school desk when I was 16. Saw them three times, and literally, their music--and live shows--changed my life in regard to what words like passion, compassion, justice, and social consciousness meant. I am humbled and privileged to have come of age in the late 70s and to have seen them. RIP Joe. You are dearly missed. Also, check out Carbon/Silicon - nice Mick Jones stuff.
DUUUUUUUUUUUDE FFS I'M DRUNK AND I'M FUCKING CRYING....... fuck the clash for giving me the soundtrack for the best fucking years of my life :)))))))))))))))))))

"I got a job, but it dont pay" The Clash spitting out the proper truth...After rent and grog im fucked. But happy, in a Kurt Cobain kind of way...
