This is my life in a nutshell. My kind of people and my kind of music. It is better to be in the house of mourning than the house of feasting. A rich man runs to his wealth like a mighty tower. A poor man chases his friends with words. Your poverty is your treasure. Never exchange it for an easy life.
Dan is the only one who hasn't changed much. Everyone else dressed in black. Ron's with the Greenwich poet look. Barry minus the soul patch. Alison is very sultry with the long hair and eye makeup. Jerry is running the Godfather style. Still the best group ever. Edit | Remove
@3lackdog I kinda disagree. I could do a jig to this and I've seen people do it! SPIT DING! That was supposed to be me spitting my baccy into the spitoon! ;-)
@FrowningIke :-\ (that's me tiptoe-ing into a dicey subject). It's been a controversy since late 60s when the first generation of hippies started appreciating bluegrass. But dancing was kind of frowned upon because...and here's the rub because I know it goes both ways...most people felt they paid to watch and listen, not dance, and the people dancing in front of watchers block the view. Setting is everything. Yes, dancing is seen at less formal 'grass shows but this looks like a class act show.
@3lackdog Well said. I agree with you entirely on that. Although it is a dicey subject. You almost feel disrespectful to the band sitting there and politely applauding. I suppose the onus should be on the band to say "Y'all get up now!" :-)
Ron Bloch doesn't just play the banjo, he is also a great guitar player, too. Dan Tyminski plays guitar and mandolin as well. A very versatile band instrumentally, not to mention that four of them sing vocals on varoius tunes. Great band!
Love them since they weren't popular, and glad to see success without sellout. So rare are people of admirable talent that stay true to their roots like AKUS. Each member is so gifted!
Saw them in Mpls right after the movie came out. Dan said he told his wife that in it it would be his voice with George Cloony's face, to which his wife replied, "My dream come true!".
Good to have Ron's banjo up in the mix for once, the mixing was excellent. Audience very held back though.

@FrowningIke This is just how polite folks listen to bluegrass. "It ain't dancin' music, it's for listening."
