  • doing kaufman's been done; dropping acid and then doing letterman, though.. it's funnier my way. ; )

  • don't try to make me sound a lot. weird.

  • so juaqiun phoenix basically stole this idea

  • @lil0ze

    Paid tribute, sir.

  • Don't get all "Oh he's the greatest ever because he planned this."

So what? Lots of plans backfire. This one did.

  • I wonder if he still watches Science Fiction Theatre.

  • Oh Rubin. lol

  • he's your density

  • clover is a whacky facktard douche bag wierdo

  • the top ten segment sucks. why do they keep that?

  • 2:05 He IS strong! Crispin's got GUNS! That surprised me the most, not the behavior or the kick.

  • Letterman is such a HUUUGE DICKWAD! Starting with Kaufman all the way up to Joaquin Phoenix. Every time someone spaces out on his show he acts like a complete fuddy duddy. And his STUPID audience go along with him. He has a chance to make AWESOME TV segments and screws up by going speechless and totally square.

  • Asberger's much?

  • OMG! Letterman's so young!

  • he looks like hes on crack

  • Wow he is another planet hahaha

  • I love how someone can be given publicity time and then act like a complete and utter prick and people still manage to slam Letterman. Yeah that makes sense.

  • In the eighties this guy was such an inspiration to just be my weird wonderful self. He made me realize that even if people always called me weirdo there were others somewhere. Love him.

BTW Crispin's dad Bruce was in a cool movie called Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster.

  • After this i hope I never meet Lettermen or else ill Kick him myself in the face for being a ASS !

  • Heck, I'd pay anything in the world just to have one minute with someone as charming, handsome, and amazing as Crispin Glover. Hey Letterman, can I go to dinner with Crispin?

  • Seriously whats in the case?

  • @jacobbirdy128 When I first saw this, I thought it was a butterfly collection.

  • Was that real?

  • letterman must have been in the matrix the way he dodged that kick.

  • i would totally love to dent david letterman's fucking head hes a total douchebag

  • Guys. He has a college degree. Hahahaha

  • some goofball fuck your mother must be proud.

  • Crispin Hellion Glover is awesome. This kicks ass. I would have dinner with that crazy mother f@&ker any day of the week. Sweet kick moves to boot. Dave was clueless

  • my Density took me here

  • Crispin Glover is actually doing an Andy Kaufman style prank on letterman. not the other way around. He was playing a character from a movie that was never released called Rubin and Ed. Crispin is just messing with everybody here.

  • Hey you get your DAMN hands of....Letterman?

  • Haha Paul was actually funny. "You or him?

    "

  • i saw this when it aired

  • ACID, pure and simple,. causing a messy frustration.

  • Once upon a time, Letterman was funny.

  • This....these types of shows, his show on NBC before Letterman moved to CBS for the money, is the reason why I fell in love with The David Letterman Show when I was 9 years old . This, and Joe Piscopo's (remember him?) parody of him on his 80's variety show. Will we EVER see this Letterman ever again?!?

  • What year was this? Anyone know?

  • @PaMS1995 no no nonono this was not 1990. this was 1985-ish

  • @PaMS1995 yikes sorry, 1987

  • I fucking love crispin glover, hes such a freak :) i hate letterman anyways haha, i think he was on acid he was looking at everything around him in terror, goodness who wud take that and then go on a talk show

  • " oh stop it .... what , you wanna have dinner with the guy ? " LMFAO

    letterman rules

  • @CanadianChronic2121 I'd have dinner with Crispin Glover :)

  • I'm surprised that Crispin didn't have a gun in that case to kill everyone.

  • crispin glover looks like skrillex with hair on both sides of his head in weirder clothes

  • what a legend.

  • Crispins a great actor...Back to the future Mc FLY HELLO!

  • Sigh...I miss the talk show format of the 60, 70, and 80's.

  • Geez, Letterman's "Top 10" dates back to 1987? Makes sense.

  • Cant Stand Letterman.....

  • they dont make em like they used to

  • What the....

  • What was he ON?

  • @darthspeaks acid me thinks :P

  • Jeremy Jahns sent me here

  • This happened on my Birthday.......

  • "NICE SHOES!!!!"

  • I want to explain this:

Glover did his first appearance on Letterman in character as Rubin to promote the release of Rubin and Ed. In this interview and the one following it he uses delaying tactics to waste the interview time, to avoid explaining his behavior in the first interview -to keep it a mystery. He uses the uncomfortable awkwardness in this one, and in the following one launches into a long and unrelated story.

Letterman didn't know. Now you know. Okay? Okay.

  • @Xdeathtroll some say Letterman was in on it (to save face). Another theory is that the female shoe-hecklers were planted. I personally doubt both counts. Firstly, it would be the only hoax I can recall Dave being in on. Secondly, the hoax would've been more structured, and also more lighthearted...with a good public reaction calculated. So I think the hecklers were authentic...and it was just good luck for the talented Crispin, who turned it to his advantage; he played everyone like a violin.

  • @Xdeathtroll He was in costume, but his nervousness was real. He wasn't acting, if you've seen Rubin and Ed you'd realize his character isn't anything like how he acted in this interview. If you watch his other interviews you'd see the same awkward behavior. He himself even denies this interview took place and is embarrassed about it. I like how you guys are trying to make him into some sort of Andy Kaufman like figure, but he isn't. He's real and that's what I like about him.

  • What are those things in the case?

  • Awesome!!! Yeah Glover was an over-compensating DWEEB. But he isn't a threat to any-one but himself.

Letterman proved himself to be an even bigger A-hole: "I went college."

    Oh please!!!!

  • @VRtechman Oh, I know! I hate that! as if it makes you better. :/

  • This was really hard and uncomfortable to watch. I've seen Crispin Glover do his sideshow and I've met him, he's a nice guy but he's clearly INSANE!!! He's really fucked up! Even though I admire him allot, there's definitely something messed up going on with that guy. I don't care if he was acting, it wasn't funny and it was in bad taste. Letterman had every right to get him off the show, and yeah why would anyone want to have dinner with someone like that? Crispin was obviously demented.

  • @Beerlejuice dude its an act, its a tv show, they script everything before hand including what they are going to talk about and for how long

  • Does anyone else think he sort of looks oddly like Kurt Cobain here? Imagine without the glasses and the hair being blonde.

  • lol is this for real?

  • 3:29 - goofball dork? pot calling the kettle black, eh dave?

  • The Joaquin Phoenix episode was staged.....poorly too.

  • Fuck u Dave

  • WOAH! david looks soo young!

  • He later admitted he was on LSD:) good ol Crispin.

  • If this was filmed in 1987, how comes David Letterman has a 70's look? I can't believe how behind Americans are in fashion.

  • @Vispateresa3 No, that's just Letterman.

  • I hope Letterman was in on it......if not, he was a total fucking prick.

  • I think that most celebrities probably see through the silly game that they have to play on these talk shows, and some decide to fool around with it. Andy Kaufman was one of the first to really approach the talk show appearance as theater of the absurd, but others have as well, e.g. Joaquin Phoenix, either out of boredom, attention-seeking, or just a desire to shake things up.

  • is he on drugs? sorry I really can't tell if he's joking or acting.

  • @Costinesuper - Performance art, no doubt. Although he may also be on drugs.

  • Comment removed

  • @jontv I mean he is dressed to look like an actor because cmmon... no one dresses like that (even at that time). But he's talking and gestures confuse me. This is wacko.:)) but I like it

  • @Costinesuper - see my comment in the general section (I meant to reply to you, but hit the wrong button).

  • @jontv yeah I know what you're talking about, I saw the joaquin pheonix interview also... But don't get me wrong, it's nice to see actors besides their acting performances but... in this way? I don't know...

  • @Costinesuper - You have to remember it's not just the occasional talk show these folks have to deal with. Any time they come out with a new project, they do literally hundreds of interviews with reporters and PR idiots from every major city. They get really tired of answering the same stupid questions over and over. Some of them decide that since this is all a big act anyway, they will play around with it. It's amusing but awkward because it makes Letterman's job harder (he doesn't like that).

  • @jontv "it makes letterman's job harder" oooh how I like the sound of that...

  • wots happened here? wig? shoes? weird nervousness? whats he doing?

  • @HaydnFitzsimons drugs

  • @HaydnFitzsimons

He's appaearing in character as a character that he played in a film that he made a few years later.

  • i know this was pretty funny but why did he do that for?

  • what the FUCK

  • McFLY! ANYBODY HOME!!??

  • Letterman always gets shit for being square, but he's had CG on at least 3 times, as well as having Harmony Korine on about 3 times as well. guy deserves props.

  • lolololololololololololol

  • Crispin Glover is a genius. I like the nod to Andy Kaufman with the "I'm a movie star" statement ("I'm a star, I am a Hollywood star")

  • Cocaine's a hell of a drug.

  • only someone like Mr. McFly can kick someone in the face while wearing platform shoes.

  • conan would have handled this interview better

  • @llamasarus1 agree 100%.

  • Crispin Glover is a genius. To anyone who doesn't know, he wasn't on LSD, it was a joke.

  • Wow! Glover nailed it

  • wow how is this controversial he missed on purpose for one thing and he was playing a character in a movie that he was developing

  • Glover! You missed!

  • i actually feel bad for him

  • That was a lot weirder and more uncomfortable than I remembered it.

  • Its called LSD.

  • a lot weird

  • Fuck Letterman

  • letterman's a douche

  • he can't get this joke but he was in on the whole joaquin phoenix crazy thing???

  • After the Kaufman/Lawler/Letterman incident, I have to believe Glover was "going into business for himself", probably figuring he'd get a bunch of publicity and become a media superstar.

    Fool.

  • @Suriel1981 the fool comment was directed at yourself right?

  • @unholychunk FAIL

  • Don't be so gulible Dave

  • Hilarious!

  • Oh man, George McFly, fallen from grace :( fucking loser wasn't even in the second movie because he was too much of a dick.

  • Comment removed

  • bad ass!

  • you are so far off ,it,s not even funny dude.

  • who came here from JeremyJahns Alice in wonderland review

  • no different than jim carrey...

    i love it!

  • Listen, you can tell me all day and all night that Glover "intended" it to be some kind of comedy piece like Andy Kaufman...you know, a REAL genius, but the fact remains that Glover was on LSD. At the very least. I'm sure he dressed up as that character, and wanted to play that character, but that motherfucker was on acid.

  • What's interesting is that Crispin Glover is actually probably one of the most intelligent actors in Hollywood today.

  • Met him tonight at a local theater. Had him sign my Back to the Future NES game.

    Nice guy.

  • Dave blocks the kick, sweeps the leg, mounts, and then unleashes a brutal ground & pound.

  • Wow surprised Letterman has a fan in here

  • i understand hes in character as rubin farr...but i think hes in character as rubin farr on LSD.

  • I love Lettermans ramble about getting him a taxi, sure he doesn't get Glover's point but who does !!! and strangely that's what's good about him.

  • LOOK THIS HAIR,AND THE SHOES......

    VERY FUNNYYYYYYYY!

  • Going to see Crispin tonight in Little Rock, AR while he tours with his film. I like Dave, but he's not coming here anytime soon, so I'll back Crispin in the bar fight tonight.

  • Letterman is such a wooden Indian when the joke is on him. See also the Joaquin Phoenix episode.

  • @lewiske he was in on both of the jokes you're referring to

  • @willlliw You sure? Letterman has said "it was news to him" just last year when asked if the interview with JP was a hoax. I have yet to hear of anything to the contrary. Kaufman/Lawler was one thing, but CG and JP both threw him off because Dave thinks he's a hilarious David Frost and couldn't see the gags for what they were. Also, I haven't heard of Dave being in cahoots with Glover when he appeared. Info, please.

  • @lewiske Those guys are clowns who are trying too hard. Letterman's got their number.

  • @lewiske he was in on the phoenix joke...

  • @07foxmulder More info, please....

  • Letterman is a cock and always has been. Fuck him.

  • George mcfly:D

  • Goofball?I think the exact same thing about you letterman...specially when you smile...dumbass

  • @eurotrashboi To insult someone on live TV like that is sad. Letterman acts like he's better than everyone, yet this is the reason most people hate him. This has happened before, actors prank the late night talk show hosts by coming to the interview in character.

TBH Crispin Glover is a very talented actor, and Letterman is an average late night host at best, which most of his viewers are older.

  • @sblackNFTU crispin was an ass and a kook.even if it was an act.lettermans show is big biz,100-400 million a year.crispy cant even dream about those numbers,so fuck off all u gloverfags.

  • @bobo007xx HAHA yeah, maybe in commercials ( Which is still far off from 400million). Hey retard, you do know the network makes that right? If he was rich, he'd pay the people extorting him for 2 million, to avoid the public humiliation he went through, by looking like the scum/shit bag he is.

Get your facts str8 before you type, you just look like a retard.

  • Comment removed

  • @bobo007xx lol "Gloverfags"

  • @sblackNFTU letterman pulls off nightly, what crispy queer couldnt even do once a year.

  • I agree with a previous comment; "this is hard to watch", it is and this is just plain rude.

I don't like the Letterman of the last 10 years or so, but when ever this was; it was wrong of Glover to pull this. He's an odd-ball in his day to day life anyway.

  • This is hard to watch...

  • He was in character for those of you that don't know, actors have done this before. They go in character on talk shows, sort of a prank. He's a great actor, and I bet he watches this and just laughs.

  • he played the character perfect in "back to the future". one of the best movies ever made.

  • no reason arrest . newsvine . com

  • HELLO?... MCFLY!!!!!!!.....SLACKER

  • me cat can eat a whole watermelon!

  • Letterman is a badass

  • @jennrensel Letterman's a douche. He's also a fucking loser, scumbag, and there's a lot of other things he's been called. Pathetic how he bashed Crispin Glover on live TV. Crispin Glover is WAY more talented than Letterman will EVER be.

  • @sblackNFTU letterman is such a long way behind conan o brian

  • @myrddinistheshit Conan is my fav late night host. He's not an arrogant dumbass who thinks he's better than everyone else. On top of that, he's funny. His humor applies to a lot of different situations, and is just a great comedian/host.

Letterman just seems to be talking down to people, even in their next interview, he doesn't let Crispin talk. I can't believe this hack insulted Crispin like that.

  • David Letterman is an asshole.

  • he almost just dented my head with those giant shoes of his

  • Giant shoes...lol

  • friday the 13th 4 enough said

  • what a douche letterman is

  • Y'know, drugs don't have to be attributed EVERY TIME someone acts eccentrically....

  • no biff you leave her alone

  • God, this guy's a psycho but still funny at the same time. He was definitely on drugs !! Crack probably

LOL when Letterman says "I'm gonna go check on the top 10"

  • SONNY MOORE

  • LMAO, at the end, Letterman is pissing himself with fear.

  • 1:43 "This is the other thing they said... " LMFAO!

  • Mitch Hedberg?

  • 160 ppl were kicked off of Letterman :-D

  • A dangerously insane man.

  • Crispin kicks ass!

  • letterman's such a douche

  • 2:17 Man, Letterman doesn't even flinch.

  • ??? so weird

  • fuck letterman
