I've seen this video compared it to other live performances and this one was so perfect. I've posted comments previously but i keep returning to watch this video. The conservative-looking bass player kills me he's so cool... She is amazing and I imagine she gets much respect as clever, stunningly beautiful and innovative as she is. I can only imagine their live show.
I agree..though I have to say the Letterman performance has a great "live"-ness to it...meaning you can hear the room better. The horns sound better on that clip. But, her guitar comes across better here.
The bass player kills me....such great presence.
She is amazing. Beautiful. Love her chord voicings and her playing is visceral. Exactly what I hoped for... That one day someone would come along and combine these elements into a form that would reach the "mainstream" audience.
I saw St. Vincent live last night when they opened for Andrew Bird. They were fantasic. I wasn't sure if I would like them and now I am officially obsessed! So good live its not even funny, the whole crowd was going crazy!
if you ever get the chance to see her live, DO IT. her energy is amazing onstage, especially when she is spazzing out on guitar. really talented woman.
This is an act of pure genius. Annie Clark breaks away from socially accepted norms and song structures. I mean, listen to how sick that distortion is or how her solo was more of an act of sporadic aggression than a chord progression.
I think that this was intended to be a compliment. People tend to think of Bjork as a strange character type, and forget that she is actually a very talented musician. I'm both a Bjork fan and a St. Vincent fan. Great performance.
not bad, but yeah i agree the sound mix is a bit off. I think her guitar effect was just a bit too flat. The Letterman performance sounded better mix wise. All in all, good stuff though.
The sound quality is extremely dead in this live performance, but the tight, mechanical songwriting of "Marrow" still manages to win out in the end.
I've been playing "Actor" repeatedly since its release, and it has yet to lose its luster. Annie Clark is a phenomenal musical talent, and one that I hope we continue to hear from in the coming years.
Yay! The keyboard/guitar player is my bandmate and a super sweet guy! Hi Danny!!!!!!!!! So proud that you're up there with Annie!!!!!!!! Sounded great:)
This girl is so inspiring and so beyond most music I hear anywhere. What an imagination she has with the structure and arrangement of her music. A riveting presence. Both her albums ( "Marry Me" and "Actor") are brilliant. I haven't bought actual, physical CD's in a while. St. Vincent's albums were the exceptions.
Get the vinyl. It came with a digital download. I'm glad that alot of shows are using the vinyl to display the albums more these day. Alot of people don't know what they are missing. Her albums are definately worth owning. 4AD is really coming back with some really good music these days.
WOW! The girl is ROCKIN" it...she looks great and holds her femininity. The Father/Son Kimmell Players are on POINT! Look at how they have the same exact subtle move and timing on their lil solo part! Ok, so I was all into the details of this performance, but I wonder if the single is as good as the live show. You GO girl! PRINCE would be proud of this song....Great lil twisted rhythm.
amazing guitar, amazing song in general.... i thought annie seemed a little nervous, but it is national television, after all (and i'm glad she's finally getting some well-deserved late night spots). :)
Look-ah dat cute smile.

Incredible. Annie is channeling Andy Gill from the Gang of Four, Gilbert and Lewis from Wire AND Adrian Belew all at the same time!
What a great edge to this song - both lyrically and musically.
Very, very creative and I can't wait for the Seattle show in February - all right!!!

I gotta figure out how she does that XD
animeilove08 2 years ago
@tripod All she does is have a very strong fuzz (which is on since the start) and she just plucks the strings behind the bridge.
