  • I have a 2001 2.7 5speed. I bought it with 10K on it and it now had 175K. No major issues. 2 minor ones (engine fan clutch, and rear axle seals). I love the truck and have no desire to get rid of it. I bought another car to drive to keep the miles off the truck.

  • I'm thinking of buying a base 2.7 toyota 5 speed tacoma. I've been a chevy man but comparing the tacoma to the colorado the tacoma seems like the way to go. Safer, more standard features, little better fuel mileage. What do you guys recommend?

  • Hey bud... the Taco 2.7 5M is a great truck. Ford man myself, so I know what you mean. Didn't buy the Ranger because I felt they ask too much for an outdated Mazda platform, too crowded in the cab, etc... Almost 30k miles on my Taco so far, only one problem to report- transmission busted reverse gear, was fixed in 3 days under warranty. Have read that the taco is assembled under contract w/ GM in cali, and that leads me to suspect that the Colorado is the same truck, but unconfirmed.

  • Cool, thanks for the quick reply.

  • No problem. Another item worth comment... This is the second toyota product I've owned (last was a 1983 Supra, which I put almost 300k miles on!) and the dealership experience with Toyota was far better than any I've had with any other manufacturer. Sure, they'll all do whatever it takes to get your business, but after I rolled out with my Taco, I felt like one of those 1980's commercials... "Oh what a feeling! Toyota!" Great truck, hope to put 400k miles on it before I give it up. ;)

  • im hopeing to get the same but from my dad... i want to do work to make it go way faster and ya know light thos tiers up... what should i do?

  • Convert to electric. ;)

  • get a tundra made in texas

  • Gorgeous Video Man! I did a lot of growing up out in that area ... I'm even pretty sure that I recognize a little piece of the road that you were driving on ... of course tons of it looks similar out there.

    Anyway ... Great Video!

  • Thanks. Yeah, it's gorgeous country out there. The camera just doesn't do it justice.

  • Dude. 2.7L is ALOT SMALLER than a G.M. 5.7L V8

  • A 2.7L engine has a 675 cc displacement per cylinder, a 5.7L engine has a 712.5 cc displacement per cylinder.

Ok, 37.5 cc's is "a lot bigger" if you say so.

One cylinder bank on a 5.7 is 2.85. Woo, .15 liters bigger. Yay! I think you missed my point.

  • im thinking about getting a 4x4 4cyl 5-speed, u think it has enough pickup for racing others in its class?

  • Racing? 4x4? It's not a monster truck. :)

  • well im just trying to figure out what a better buy is: keeping my '04 X-tra cab, V6, 2wd that has 190hp @ 4800 RPM...or...2008 X-tra cab, 4cyl, 4 wd that has 159 hp @ 5200 RPM....like which one would be faster? what do u think?

  • Torque is what matters most, since horsepower is based on torque... but horsepower is a measurement of work done over time, i.e. how fast you can get the work done. If your "class" includes 4-cylinders only, you'll be fine... otherwise you may need the extra grunt from the V6, which produces more torque through the band, but gets worse economy. I wouldn't trade my big-bore-four for anything. :)

  • nice truck man..i have a 2006 tacoma 2.7 4x4 access cab..what taco do you have..any mods on it???

  • I use to drive from I10/1604 out to Kendalia via 281. The stint from 281 out to the Wildlife Refuge was the best part of my week. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for posting this! I was having a rough day at work and found your video during my lunch hour. Watching that nice Texas scenery helped calm me down.

  • Glad you enjoyed it. :) It sure is beautiful out there!

  • very nice vid...love the scenery! I'm glad there's a Texan out there who appreciates Toyotas for what they are...reliable, dependable, enjoyable trucks

  • Thanks!

As for the truck, it blew its manual transmssion's reverse gear at 17k miles. I'm sure it was a fluke, it got fixed 100% free under warranty.
