THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR WONDERFUL COMMENTS. I'M STARTING A SERIES NOW ON BRIEF FORMS, THAT WILL BE SO QUICK IN SPEED TO WRITE, THAT IT WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOVE AND EMBRACE THE ART EVEN MORESO.
@Chordinated That is a very precise way to conclude it, IT IS A DYING ART. So glad you took the time to respond so nicely, and I wish you success and because you are starting at it so young, you should be a super hero at it in no time.
@moseseseseses I do have two questions too: how do you distinguish between A, E, and I? that seems a bit confusing too. Also, what books would you recomend for further studying?
@moseseseseses The a, such as in the word Bay or Hay, is like an egg tilted on a 45 degree angle, but the same a in the word man looks like an egg laying on its side, and the e as in the word Bee, or See, looks like a tiny circle a little bigger than a period. The long I, as in the word High, looks like an egg on a 45 degree angle, with a small slash inside of it, and the little I, such as in the word big, looks the same, and always will, as the e, as in the words See, and Bee.
I am reminded of a class in biology a took in the 1970's when the casset recorders were popular. The professor asked the students to shut off their recorders. He then told us the secret as to how one collects sperm from a male frog. It was one of the most interresting lectures I ever attended. He didn't mind us taking notes but was afraid of what might be done with an audio recording.
@gammondog Thanks for sharing this, very interesting, and very wittful of the teacher to do so. Shorthand would had profited these students greatly that day, and by the way to others who may read these comments, I do hope to share more videos on shorthand soon on super brief forms that will accelerate your speed. Thanks for all the good feedback.
I am one of those rare persons who uses Gregg Shorthand daily. My speed is 100 wpm.I agree with you that Gregg is a valuable skill especially in today's job market especially the Temp office market. Having great computer and typing skills is necessary.but when job employers/interviewers see my expertise skill in Gregg, it is the icing on the cake to getting job gigs.I hope that your videos will inspire others who are missing the value of Gregg.Your video series of Gregg is a GREAT ONE.
Ran out of characters.... after further listening to your video, I had to say it was VERY interesting. I thought I was STUPID to want to learn it to the high level of speed... Hearing you helped me to know it was not a stupid thought. I need it for a lot of things. Now wouldn't it be nice if there was a keyboard that could convert typing into Gregg shorthand and it would be in code so no one could understand it but you? I'm hoping I could learn it from you! Thank you.
I went to school to become a machine shorthand writer like for court reporting and closed captioning. Years ago I was in a Gregg shorthand class - I was a troubled girl, and had trouble concentrating in school, but when I had good moments - what I did learn, I got good grades in. Years ago I tried to find somewhere where I could learn Gregg shorthand for taking notes in church and other situations where I cannot use my voice recognition... so here you are! I am now a voice writer.
I learned Gregg shorthand before going to college in the 70s, at the urging of my mother who had been a stenographer in NYC. It made a huge difference in my grades, as I was able to capture entire lectures in my notebooks, not just fragments of them written in longhand. I still use it, but mainly for keeping a private journal in a house full of snoops who can't read shorthand.
I have been wanting to take a Gregg refresher course for YEARS and have not been successful in finding a refresher course. It's true: if you don't use it, you lose it. I loved shorthand, too. I am soooo looking forward to your lectures to come!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I've been looking at what shorthand style I want to learn, watching gregg shorthand it looks like it can't really be written well on lined paper, only on blank paper.
I'm a university student and want to learn it for note taking and I only ever use lined paper, can it be written well within the confines of the lines on lined paper? Also the pages are always divided in half, can you not use the full length of a page?

It's really a dying art... I'm going on 16 years old now and I'm determined to learn! What a fascinating thing...
