why do they stretch/warm-up before doing karate???? to make sure the opponant (sic) get's the chance to attack, and go for the kill while you're stretching? Jezus christ! wtf???
@ThePurdude why would you not stretch before TRAINING. if you injure yourself you cannot train for a while. i warm up before training to prevent an injury occurring during training which is preparation in case i have to fight. stop being big headed and ignorant...
@mvpmuch1992 I was actually re-posting somebody else's comment, but with a "HAHAHA" after it. I suppose I should have put quotation marks around the quote I was laughing at.
@allesinmetaal Add resistance to create more speed and power. A simple example would be a push-up; it has no martial function but is a beneficial training tool. Or a resistance band, or weight training, or plyometrics. Creativity in training should be seen as a positive addition. Robert Young Sensei is one of the best, you can learn a lot from him if you are open.
@billysue2 in our dojo we don't add "stuff" to any kind of kick, block, whatever! A motion has to be performed correctly as it is, that is why we keep practicing kata's, we just don't blend kata or kumite training with physical stuff, we take that very seriously. sure: in the end everything has to be what it should be, but we give our kids the time and the motivation to keep learning. It's hard enough as it is. Oh: almost forgot: I'm not really a novice. That was about 25 years ago. really.
@allesinmetaal as i said its not technical, itsconditioning, this isnt something that should be done with beginners but only once the tech is very good to avoid disrupting the form.A large percentage of martial arts instructors never understand coaching or conditioning, they just copy their teachers.Ive also been training for 25 yrs,and a professional in the area of strength and conditioning and physiotherapy,so I can appreciate how bad instructors are.

My best guess would be because it adds the conditioning element to the training they are doing.
