Omg I loved there back from2006-2009 and it is amazing on the lake but don't say your stuck there I loved it there and I miss it a lot the air force is amazing my dad retired in may and it was annoying cuz I couldn't go back to Altus so be glad your there

i lived there like, back in 2000...u gotta get a boat and go to the lake!!! if its still there..i remember the lake being so low that u could see the tops of the buildings that lie beneath...and sometimes the entire building

I'm from El Reno, I remember going there for our football game, that was one LONG 2 and a half hour drive but the city was fun and so was the people.

Boring town i know. I lived there for 8 years and my sister was born there. Boy was i ever glad when i moved to Wichita Falls, Tx, Not far from altus but at least there's a mall and a life here!

I like how it was possible to show the entirety of the town in under 10 minutes. Whenever I here people complain about bases like Minot, I rage. The place can get cold, but it's still paradise compared to Altus.

@okfire65 The Air Force members are a huge source of revenue for local businesses, with military members and their families making up almost a fifth of your town's population. Furthermore, a tenth of Altus' locals work on the base. Altus' local economy and employment rates would suffer greatly if the base were to shut down again. There are many problems with Altus, but the military presence definitely isn't one of them.

@ApostolicGodsChild US soldiers don't go to war to defend and protect their country. That's BS. They go to war and die for the "special interests" of the elite. They only "sell you" the idea that it was on behalf of courage, bravery, freedom, and patriotism...but the reality is, that's a lie. Just a fabled story. I feel so bad for the honest men and women who died serving America and other countries for their hearts were true, but the men behind the plans aren't true.

Nobody wants to die but sometimes that is the result of trying to save others. It doesn't even matter if its not the intent for some to go to war to protect their contry, the point is, they are there doing it. If you can't appreciate that, then there is no getting to you.

I thought they would've given me better choices since I'm a mandatory mover, but...guess not lol I mean any assignment is what I make it, it would just help if I had something to work with lol. Hopefully the people there are something to look forward to. I guess time will tell

@ecua57 The building/plaza/stores behind it was the original Wal-Mart, before they built the present one. going out of town, the Heritage Park Theatres stood/stands before reaching Martha.

I left Altus over 10 years ago and for what I can see very little has changed.

Cruising west on 62, passing Veterans Lane and it's hard not to notice Traders Tom's Tavern, Scooters, and the remaining dives of the ra.

I noticed the new Kawasaki dealership building...that used to be at the south side of town along hwy 283. The old "City of Altus" B-47 still on display as it was back then.

Turning North/right on Main/283 I can still see Blockbusters (didn't they go out of business?), O'Reilly autoparts still standing as well as the Altus Plaza...that Walgreens used to be an optical shop and a Loan/Finance place with outrageous fees...further up Whattaburguer still there..I was there when it was built.

Nope, blockbuster is still up and running. The Walgreens was built from the ground up in late 2007. There wasn't a building there before that unless there was and they tore it down. Yep, Wattaburger is still there; i barely ever eat there though cuz they are so expensive.

LOL, somethings that have changed is...Denny's went out of business back in

Oct 06. Braums went out of business in 07 and a new one was build across the street from Wal-mart in 08. McDonalds was remodeled back in 08 (bigger & better). Quizno's was build on Main St. back in 08. The old Denny's building was made into "The Plaza" (a Mexican restaurant) earlier this year. Tres Rio is now a sports bar. The newest thing built is Papa John's on Broadway; opened back in June this year.
