  • thats how bruce lee did it

  • Great video. I am 39 and have been practicing ITF Taekwondo for almost 3 years. I would like to know some good flexibility exercises for rotating the hip properly. The problems I have are all in the hip. Can you point me in the right direction?

  • Paul - I am in my 40's - absolutely besotted by tkd. Have no problems with front split.....but would be lucky to get 90 degrees on box splits....cannot turn my hips out at all - makes my knees burn.. This is really affecting my progress for high reverse hook kick...side kick and most basic turning kicks....what muscles do I need to work on? Adducters? A

  • Could be lack of strength, could be flexibility. It's not possible to tell just from your description.

  • Wow! prompt reply. How can I ascertain which of these it is? Also, worth mentioning - during high side kick - 1 yr ago pulled one of my 'deep 6' and ended up with piriformis syndrome....spent loads on physio, greatly helped...now going to gym to try and help strengthen this, as I still get 'burn'. As a 2nd question to the one above - can you recommend specifically how to deal with the piriformis? Kicks are sooo much lower since.... really want to sit my 1st dan at xmas! advuce on both pls

  • The suggestion to turn the supporting leg before execution (during chamber) rather than during execution can meet with criticism that some power is lost, but Paul makes a good point that all that torque on the knees can cause damage over time, and it can be after just months, not years. Then you've got a training injury for a small amount of extra power. It's also easier to coordinate the way he describes and demonstrates it.

  • Hey Paul, i find your videos very informative.....before i started watching them...a few weeks ago i threw a side kick with turning the supporting foot the otehr way at all. it was facing the same way when i executed it and brought it down...i have pain in my thigh maybe the hip flexor or something....this is effecting my kicks what should i do

  • too gud... it reallys helps and my kicks are quite powerfull more these please

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • Is this just for the side kick, hook kick and round kick?

  • Yes, for side line kicks.

  • Great explanation.

  • Thank you for your comment.

  • Thank you for your comment. I hope these videos will be of service to you.

  • You know your kicks!

  • Thank you for your comments.

  • Very few people know kicking as well as you.

  • Thank you for your comments.

  • thanks for this information, i think this is where my hip pain comes from. are there any streches i can do to gain flexibility in my hip rotation?

  • There are many. Take a look at the last video posted on the ElastcSteel Channel.

  • Your videos are great.

  • Thank you sir.

  • Another gem, Paul. Keep them comming.

  • Thank you for your support.

  • i dont get it

  • You don't get how to do it or the purpose of doing it?

  • how to do it

  • As your chamber comes up, the supporting leg turns out. When the chamber is up the heel is facing the target on the supporting leg.

  • i dont think its good to chamber with roundhouse you loose alot of power chambering for roundhouse is more of a speedy tae kwon do kick lol.

  • Every one picks the kicks that suit them, it's great that the choices are available.

  • Nice, High Kick pictures.

  • Thank you for the comment.

  • What if you throw more then one kick. Do you turn out?

  • If you intend to hit with every kick. Why not?

  • Good Kicks.

  • Thank you for your comment.

  • Got to keep this in mind.

  • Why not.

  • Is this only for Side Kick, Hook Kick, and Roundhouse Kick?

  • Primarily

  • Thank you for making this clear.

  • Interesting point.

  • As always, good video.

  • Thank you.

  • What happened to the lights?

  • Good question lol

  • your methods are awesome

  • Than you for the support.

  • No. You mentioned the concept of standing with your toes facing outwards, heels together, and that is easy for me, even with my knees extended, and I wondered if that was going to hinder me, but from watching the rest of your video, I see that such is not the case. Thanks for the prompt reply, though. :D

  • What if you can stand with your toes turned all the way out, knees extended? Is that bad?

  • Do you mean "what if you can't stand?" Other wise the question is not clear.

  • Wow I love your videos. My kicks seem to be killed by the muscles inside and outside the hips for these kicks. Any advice? Also the leg that lays flat on the fronts split stretches some muscle I don't know what it is. Any help to stretch these? Thanks! Your stuff Rocks!!

  • It's difficult to tell what you are asking from the description.

Go to Paulzaichik forum and post your questions in details.

  • Ok I went to the forum and posted under kick specific training. My name on the forums is sammyskf33 and I hope to hear from you.

  • Great teachings Paul. Hi from Australia. How do you stretch your inward rotators?

  • You stretch the inward rotators by rotating outward. Try ankle over the knee stretch.

  • Once again, good stuff Paul. Thanks again for sharing your extensive knowledge on YouTube.

  • you just replied to a comment i put on your side kick vid and you said exactly this, lol its like you designed it for me lol cheers

so how do you stretch the inward roatators and strengthen the outward rotators, or vise versa.

  • You stretch the inward rotators, by rotating the hip outward. (Ankle of the knee stretch)

You strengthen the outward rotators by outward rotating the hip.

  • Paul Knows what he is talking about.

By far the best analysis of kicks I have seen on Youtube. Thanks Paul!

  • i agree

  • Thanks for this, intresting and informative as usual .

  • Why did the video get really dark a 1/3 through?

  • more like 1/4 way hrough..

  • Not sure. The video was taken off, light adjusted and uploaded again, that did not help.

Was there a part of it, that you were not able to see?
