Assisted breeding is used more commonly with heavy-boned dogs, because the male can sometimes be too heavy or large for the bitch. It is also sometimes used because the male may get injured if the female moves around too much- because as I (think) they said it was her first breeding.
And yes, as someone below (sorry I don't say by name) usually the first time can be a bit painful for any female- of almost any species.
Also. Dogs will sometimes squeal and yelp when hyperactive or excited.
