This is not gooey at all when seen in the context of Divine Love, which we human beings have a glimpse of, when we love each other. Most people do not read songs like this with the lens of the spirit, which Dan Fogelberg carried in all his music. That is why Dan Fogelberg will always be timeless. He sang and wrote songs outside of time.

I wouldn't quite call this song "cute" more like, beautiful. Many years ago I played a duet to this song at a friends wedding. Me on the violin, a friend on the acoustic guitar who also sang the song. There wasn't a dry eye in the room.
I listen to this while listening to the sounds of a thunderstorm. It is so soothing. Makes me think of driving along, listening to this in the car while a storm going on. Very relaxing:)

I second that emotion! It's an incredibly beautiful song but for me it's sad too. Everytime I hear it tears start to well up in my eyes. It makes me think of the precious love I once had & which somehow slipped thru my fingers (a failed marriage...and then later a broken engagement). At least I have the happy memories of the wonderful times I once shared with my ex-wife, my stepdaughter and later my former fiance. All three are lovely ladies who I will always cherish. :-)

It makes me think of the precious love I once had & which somehow slipped thru my fingers (a failed marriage...and then later a broken engagement). At least I have the happy memories of the wonderful times I once shared with my ex-wife, my stepdaughter and later my former fiance. All three are lovely ladies who I will always cherish. :-)

Dedicating this song to my daughter Michelle on her 6th birthday...she was born 16 weeks too early and died a week after her birth on Sept. 1, 2004. I love you, Michelle.

I always wanted to like this song, but something about it just doesn't quite add up. It's almost too mushy and for me that's saying a lot, cause I like mushy songs. Maybe it's the tempo that is dragging it down. Anyway the lyrics are great.

@ThePoetrygrl It's the horns and strings in the background. Somehow they take away from the sincerity of this song. I wish they would have just let Dan play and sing the song without all the added orchestration. The song stands alone. Still a beautiful song. I don't think there are many songwriters who could say what he does so well. His music continues to proclaim the things that I fumble to say. See you in paradise Dan.
