I think that this improvisation should be judged without watching who is playing, only listening to the music. It's one improvisation made by three organists, I don't think they are playing three different improvisations, in my opinion the result has a sense of unity that produces a single work, not three different works.
The last one is the one that brings something new to the theme and flow. This is playing like a tennis game and he hit the ball with absolute accuracy but makes it his game. He did not try to impersonate Latry but to respond to him. That is a valid choice in my opinion...
No fussed on the full Notre Dame organ sound - those reeds sound too harsh I think.
I actually prefer the third part of the improv to the others. Pálúr reduces the tension initially, whilst continuing the overall ebb and flow of the previous parts of the improv, then builds on it to form a fitting and cohesive end.
I think one cannot compare the musical quality of these productions objectively. The third improvisation is just a different style, admittably jarring from the first two, but hence it has to be evaluated in another way.
this sounds interesting but not my favourite, sounds pretty awful to be honest, but thats what these amazing organists do, they love to experiment I supose
I accidentally removed starblazer1971's comment instead of replying to it, but I could recover it, so here it is:
The third organist totally lost the style of the improvisation, taking the primal energy of the first two and introducing Alberti figures. It would be interesting to hear M. Latry's critique of the students' performance.
IMHO the figuration you mention is not simple Alberti bass, but instead has melodic importance. It is clearly a bit different in style, but varietas delectat, and it contributes to the structure of the impro and brings a bit of calmdown.
I am horrified how these guys managed it to pack so much void and despair into almost 7 minutes of organ sounds. Friends, reject the myth of progress and hear sorrowfully what is actually going on.
Wonderful! I hope one day all incredible improvisations done by the Notre Dame Organists will come out on CD. That's a marvelous organ, maybe the best in the worl. Thanks for sharing, I wish the sound and video quality'd be better although the musical message still comes out.

What makes Latry the top is those awesome rythms.

Én kifinomultabban fogalmaznék: mondjuk inkább azt, hogy *orgonadarabok* előadásáról van szó.
