  • Hee Han Kim! very nice preformance!! I play this peace also at the moment, and I have a question for you. Which tempo do you have whith your staccato? Good Job

  • oh i didn't know you wear glasses....and i bet when you took them off...you just got better..hehe

  • INcredible!

  • Super duper!

  • I am now playing clarinet too, I am now grade 8, but my tone is a bit strange, can you tell me why?

  • The best bit: 0:09 - 6:03

  • Brilliant! What size reed do you play on? Keep it up, mate!

  • Your performance is totally perfect! Han Kim!!!!!!

  • Your performance is perfect!

  • You sir, are the best clarinet player I have ever seen. You are incomparable to professionals that are 6 times your age. What kind of reed are you using?? Keep up the good work and never stop playing!!!!!!

  • Why treated this beautiful music as an Etude? Please bring out the musical talent of this hard working boy.

  • Joder, estupendo!

  • THE NEXT RICHARD STOLTZMAN!!!!

  • I love how you have this jazzy feel in every piece you play and you let it sing out, amazing!!!!

  • You taught me a lot about music and made me a better player. I learned how to circular breathe from you... :) so thank you

  • @liddleNDNduckiee From listening to this alone you should be able to gauge about where it falls in your abilities. It is technically/lyrically demanding. The score is also on imslp.

  • what grade are u now?

  • I loved everything, tone, tempo, intonatio, great job!

Except for the cadenza, it should be more expressive... and also, at the end of the cadenza, you gave a rather slow tempo to the pianist (at 4:22 ). Maybe that was a part of your interpretation, but that forced a non written accelerando from the pianist.

Sur ce, c'est vachement bien! j'aime tes vidéos.

  • Great playing! I'm playing this piece as well currently. I'm having a little trouble managing that part where it's just a 3 lines of playing arpeggios up and down (some dominant sevenths). My thumb kills me and I can't effectively hold the clarinet. :(

I'm wondering if you have a thumb rest that allows you to shift your right hand to manage that part. Otherwise, great playing! much better than me at least....and you're younger than me...

  • Absolutly amazing! at 12 too!!!! almost perfection! outstanding!

  • ok this is what i think shud happen...HAN AND BLISS + ME lol nah jk bout me but them to do a duo and then THEY GET RICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND MAKE AN ULTAMITE clarinet but they only make 8 of them clarinets and they wont do 8 more in until 100 years! and then i buy one no no i steal one and then i play it and fairies and shit apear out of nower and we dance and then a blowjob happens then randomly a dragon fuks han in the ass and ten bliss slays the dragon and then randomly dies

  • mutio bom mesmo. esse menino é o cara.

    sou fanzaço teu cara.

    continua assim,

    quero ser igual a você

  • I've been practicing this for a while...and I was really proud of the speed I was playing the cadenza/the last part at...then I saw this and realized I was playing those parts at like, 1/2 the speed you were playing them...umm I'm going to go practice now, goodbye. ;)

  • Hi HAM, you play very well! Where do you live? I'm from Brazil and enjoy a lot to hear you playing.... wonderful!

  • this sounds lovely <3

but what grade level piece is this?

  • Your tone is gorgeous, the way you move your fingers is like Picasso creating a piece of art. Bravo my friend, bravo indeed!

  • exellent

  • I'm playing this piece on Sunday, I am SCARED!

  • Bravo!! so expressive!

  • This is amazing. I play the clarinet also and I have mastered this peice, but it took me a while.. But just not as fast as you are doing it.

Will you tutor me? .. Haha :)

  • very nice! cadence plays very originally, and great temp in final. good job!

  • even if im a few years older than you..

AGE DOESNT MATTER.. ? D: LOL

    MARRY ME LMAO

  • Dude, I just have to say that you are an amazing player! I look up to you man. Keep up the amazing work!

    Great Cadenza btw!

  • You're tonal quality is better than Julian Bliss's when he performed this, but I like the speed at which he played it a bit better. Still, this is excellent and I enjoyed every moment of this. Thanks for the good music :D

  • impressive i played this piece for one of my recitals, but you memorized it im very impressed overall it was amazing i really like your czardas by v monti, my friend played that o ntuba

  • Thanks to pianist and clarinetist .............

  • i love the way you play. (: I would say more, but i'm practically speechless right now. haha

  • OMG how old are you?!?!

  • very good tone, but, kind of heavy on the tnoguing,, but hey ur young so u got time to develop it like a pro

  • Great comment Soccaplaya...constructive, yet positive...we need more of that on youtube!

  • just started this about two days ago o_o

your fingers are godly! you move your fingers so smoothly each phrase is so clean! i think your squeaking might have resulted from too much movement. my teahcer says that when you keep the clarinet angle in more it results in better sound and cleaner articulation. you might be moving too much too. but thats easily fixable you play a-m-a-z-i-n-g. you played the cadenza really well. the fingerings are so tough for me. great job!

  • Jeese, I'm first chair clarinet but you make me look like the 300th chair.

  • You make it look so easy!!

Your absolutley amazing!! and your so young! you must be really passionate and inspired to play like that.

    Thank you!

  • I like your version much better than Bliss's.

You have more musicality and I personally like your tone much better.

  • Julian is crazy compared to anyone. The speed at which he moves his fingers in almost inhuman. Although his tone quality is not as good as kim's when he was at the age of 12. And I agree with clarinetkid37. Bliss's interpretation, I also enjoy.

  • @MusicJacob

yeah, bliss's tone took improved significantly after he was twelve.

  • Cuanto talento para cantar...

    Fabulosa INTERPRETACION!!!

    Tank you Han Kim!!!

  • I think this was very well played! You are very gifted! I personally enjoyed listening to Jullian bliss play this piece better! I liked his interpertation better. But for you're age wonderful!

  • you're really gifted.

You've got all the capacities to become very great, keep practicing !

    Cheers from France !

  • 되게 잘하시네요 !!

    저도 클라리넷을 하는데요.

    이곡하는데 죽는줄알았거든요 ㅠ

    다음에 볼 기회가 있었으면 좋겠네요

  • Extraordinary perfomance! You are very talented.

  • Nice job!I like your smooth transitions between the notes.

  • Where do you see clarinet??? All i can see is angel at the piano :))) hehehe

-superb job dude, only 12, omg, really superb

PS if oyu wanna people to listen you play use programs to remove piano picture, leave sound :D:D:D:D

  • Mr. Kim is a remarkably able and dextrous young man. I wish him a brilliant future. But I can't take my eyes off his pianist. She's breathtaking.

  • amazing job at the allegro vivo. That part pisses me off lol. Great job on the whole. Far better than Julian Bliss' video of it when he was twelve lol. Not that Julian Bliss is bad... but I think you're the greater prodigy :P Who do you study with? Have you ever thought of traveling to study with masters like Karl Leister or Sabine Meyer? What do you think of Martin Frost?

  • I'm glad that you liked my playing and thanks for your appreciation :) I'm studying with Prof.HyounGon Kim and Prof.YongGen Lee in Korea and hope to study in abroad in the future....Martin Frost is one of my favorite player^^

  • Great job!!!on what clarinet are you playing man?...Do you still use Vandoren M30??...I play on m30 with 3 1/2 reed too..i think it's great!Keep the good work...your great!!!;)

  • I'm using buffet festival, and changed mouthpiece into customized one made by SKYGARDENER in Tokyo.^^

  • @1930302

How does the M30 compare to the B45, or other M series mouthpieces? I'm seriously considering switching from B45 to a M30.

  • It's easier for me to position my clarinet a bit lower. But still nicely done mate.

  • wow, your amazing! ive been playing clarinet for 8 years and im still not that good! i was just wondering how long it took you to memorize that whole piece.

  • Thx for comment and it doesn't take that long to memorize....maybe...1 month of practice is enough :)

  • Brilliant ur kinda perfect clarinet player, i played clarinet for 4 yrs but could not do like you it's still crap hehe

  • What brand of mouthpiece do you use and what thickness of reed? I have a Vandoren B45 and I use about a 4, sometimes a 3 1/2. I'd have to say your tone is impressive and your playing is beautiful. At 12 I was still a novice and I can't say that I'm too much better. (: I wouldn't be able to play that solo so beautifully. And, I'll dismiss the squeak because that solo is INSANE. Great job!

  • Thx for comment and Sorry for late response~At this time I used Vandoren M30 with 3 1/2 reed...

  • great!

  • No problem, at all. I use a B45 and 3 1/2s. I don't like 4s. They don't play as well on my mouthpiece. D; I used to use them, but 3 1/2s make such a better sound for me.

  • Great job! I like how you play without sheet music.

  • you are the best !!

  • i need to say your very good and i like the sound of ur clarinet, but at the beginning you played a bit sloppy

    what make is your clarinet?

    where do you study?

  • Thanks for comment. I'm using Buffet Festival and I study in Yewon School, Seoul,Korea.

  • Thx, I've started since I was 8 and I'm in Seoul, Korea...

  • well maybe i should start. because after that cadenza..woah. id probably pass out cold lol!

please post more videos soon though! it sounds great!

  • Thanks a lot!!

  • Very well done, dude keep going your going to be the best! But control your tone at times. Im sure you know of those squeaks and stuff. youll get it. Never sacrifice your beautiful tone for speed

  • Thanks for your advice and happy to hear appreciation :)

  • 잘하시네염~~

    호암 아트홀 많이 가보는덴데... ㅎㅎ

  • 감사합니다~~ 근데 여기 금호아트홀인데요 ㅋㅋ

  • Very good!! You're improving from one video to another! Don't lose it kid and you'll be second Martin Frost;)

    Best wishes for you!

  • Thanks for your warm comment and I'll keep on working~~^^

  • btw do you have any tips on how to get through this song or one like it without dying from loss of oxygen? do you do breathing excersizes?

  • hehe.. I'm not doing special exercise for breathing but doing daily exercise of Taekwondo, korean martial art..:)

  • yours is WAY better than that julian guy. he dances way too..strangely. :p

keep posting videos! this one is my favorite, but id love to see more :)

  • this clarinet solo is absolutely amazing! does anyone know where i can find the sheet music for it?

  • Wait, what, whatt??!!! All from memory?!

    And 12?

I just started to learn this and I don't think I might get it that good within 2 months!

  • Great Job! I love the clarinet.

  • heyyy this is great!!! I love this piece and I love you playing it!!! How long do you practise on the clarinet then???

  • Usually 1~2hours except about a month before performance...:)

  • You look like you're enjoying this! I feel so good after listening to you play! I play the clarinet too, and i love it! Keep it up!

  • Happy to hear that you liked it^^

  • i just love the way you play!

    you are amazing!

    like wow!!!

  • holy moly..this is my all-state audition peice. yep, he would DEF. get first chair..haha, good job kid! :D

  • Oh yeah, its amazing how you performed this piece with such tone and clearness. I'm impressed. VERY impressed. I intend to show this to my director at the highschool to show to our class tomorrow.

Thanks for such a wonderful performance!

  • Thanks a lot for your appreciation on my playing and wish you good luck~~:)

  • well i just might be screwed. This is my audition piece too and seriously.... I haven't even gotten up to half this speed yet!!!!!!!!!! >.> seriously. A. Messager is one insane person for writing this! >.> lol. But hey about ..hmm..FOUR more YEARS of practice and I mgiht get down the first ten measures. J/K.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE CLARINETS AT THEIR AUDITIONS! I WISH YOU ALL WELL!!!!

  • btw is this how fast its supposed to be? because ive been playing it like..nearly half this speed..ahhh!

  • this is my all-state band audition..but only the first minute or so of it..ugh this is going to be ridiculous lol.

but anyways, youre an AMAZING player! you make it sound sooo easy :) keep being inspiring :D

  • Thanks for your comment and GOOD LUCK on your audition!!:)

  • very nice tone! With the Messager piece it is very hard not to sound shrieky. Your tone quality in difficult technical passages has improved a lot compared to the 2007 videos. No doubt you are going to be a fantastic clarinettist!

  • Glad to hear your comment and thanks for appreciation :)

  • Hi, really I'm so happy for you. You are awesome, I want to hear to you in person.

  • Thanks for you comment and I hope to have a chance to meet you someday...:)

  • I just have a curious question--why do you play with the clarinet so far away from your body? Not necessarily a criticism, just wondering.

    - John

  • When you "get inside" the music,

You will know why the performers usually swing their body or doing some small acts during play on.

    Sorry for the poor English

    -AMS

  • I'm not talking about the moving--I understand that, I do it myself.

Han defaults though on angling his clarinet roughly 45 degrees from his body, while most clarinet players would center it around 20 or so.

    - John

  • Sorry for late response.

As for your question regarding, Umm,,,it's because I just feel comfortable and I'm accustomed to...

  • why would it matter?? hes already playing beautifully. i myself postion my clarinet that far.

  • Typically, unless you have a radically different mouthpiece/reed, if you bring your clarinet closer to your body, the angle gives you a better tone, and makes articulations sound lighter and more professional. Try it for a week or two and notice the difference ;D

    - John

  • You're a talented young player. I wish you the best of luck in the future.

  • I can't believe I haven't commented on this yet...but let me tell you, you're pretty amazing, and your videos just keep getting better and better. Its inspiring to me :), makes me want to practice more diligently!

great job! I love this piece...I wanna learn it soon :)!

  • Thanks for your warm comment and let's keep working together~~

  • You sound terrific. Who do you study with? And where do you plan on studying music in the future?

  • I'm studying with Mr.HyunGon Kim and Mr.YongGen Lee in Korea. I don't decided where to study yet but I'd like to do someday...:)

  • Gotta love a good M30! I just bought my second, and it's even better than my first! Out of curiosity, is that a Bay Ligature?

    You sound really great!

  • M30 is great. But my ligature is WOODSTONE.:)

  • Bravo! You are AMAZING!! ^^

  • wow nice performance! bravo! ^^

  • SUPER INSPIRED HERE. OMG!

    You're good...

  • Thank you~~

  • I have to say...every time I see a new video of yours you get better and better. You are exceptionally talented...way better than me and six years younger. Never stop playing :).

  • Thanks for comment and sorry for late reply:)

  • You are so tallented that you could probably excell at playing most all instruments.

    Very enjoyable listening.

    jdt

  • Thanks for listening and warm comment. :)

  • Nice performance. The beginning feels a little too fast for my taste but that is opinion. The speed definitely affects your accuracy overall. The andante section could have had a more focused sound, it was very bright. Take more liberties in the slower more lyrical passages. You started off well, but after the sextuplet section the tempo took off rather quickly, and that section can be better expressed at a slower tempo. That is also opinion. Very good job overall.

  • Thank you very much. I appreciate your comment.:)

  • very very good!

    What clarinet do you play?

  • Thx, I'm playing Buffet Festival with Vandoren M30 mouthpiece.:)

  • this is amazing.

  • Cool. Looking forward to hearing it. Please let me know when the CD is availiable.

  • O.K. David~:)

  • Schubert dates were January 31, 1797 -- November 19, 1828 so copyright expired long ago. Was it due to the Soprano not being allowed to be recorded that you couldn't record it?

  • Yes, you're right. Maybe it's because the management company she's engaged in will release her CD with same repatoir in the near future. I recorded CD together with her.:)

  • Is it true you only practice one hour a day and maybe 2 hours on weekends?

  • Mostly yes, but 2~3 hours a day from a month before performance.

  • I can see that you grew not only physically; you are taller now that the last time I saw one of your videos, but also your technique grew. Very nicely done. I completely agree with sonataopus73 comments. Congrats and keep on playing.

  • Thank you very much for your appreciation.:)

  • Excellent!! Are you going to post the Schubert (was it recorded?)?

I would suggest to take a bit more time in the opening runs as you never want it to sound like a technical etude. The Cadenza was great. I would recommend using "da" instead of "ta" for light articulation.

    Keep up the great work!!

  • Hi,David.I'm always thanking very much for your warm advice and I'll keep that in mind.:) As for the Schubert, it couldn't be recorded for copyright, but will be able to post audio clip next month.

  • I'm going to say that youre pretty amazing. I didnt hear anything wrong with your embouchure. Like everyone else though, you did tense up during the fast parts. But Man youre great. Much better than Julian Bliss' video when he was your age. Great job.
