Well, I am suprised that you failed to discuss how Obama supporters from ACORN were arrested when they sent people in to vote hundreds of times. I live in GA and voted the first week of September for Obama and Martin. Well things like this happen because k-12 grades learn nothing about politics. I think there's a lot of people out there who don't know their rights. One misconception I heard recently was that Obama was an Arab, which of course he's not but the law clearly states that to become president you have to be born in the U.S. and be at least 35 years old! I am from Georgia, but I live in Japan. When I faxed a request for an absentee ballot for the primaries, everything was cool. When I faxed a request for an absentee ballot for the general I waited a long time, but nothing. I asked my parents to see what happened. The office said they "did not receive the fax". Both times, I used the same number and the number did not change. My parents applied for me, but they had to go twice to see if they mailed it. It took three weeks to get here. OBAMA '08!
The system is such a mess. You need a dynamically updated national registry of all US citizens. Would eliminate the need for purges and voter registration to begin with, sould come automatically with citizenship.

Lawsuits won't help, because by the time they happen, the elections will be long over. The best solution would be for ALL voters to go to the polls with their passport (if they have one), birth certificate, SSN, drivers license, and a utility bill with their name and address on it. That way, if they're told they're "not citizens", they'll have proof to back them up on the spot. but regardless, it will slow the process down a LOT, so if your state lets you vote early, DO IT ASAP!!!!

I have not received any letters and didn't have any problems voting, but I will be sure to call down there tomorrow and see what the hell is going on. This is just not right. Well things like this happen because k-12 grades learn nothing about politics. I think there's a lot of people out there who don't know their rights. One misconception I heard recently was that Obama was an Arab, which of course he's not but the law clearly states that to become president you have to be born in the U.S. and be at least 35 years old! So most people don't even know the basic requirements of course they'll be fooled! And why don't they know that they can do early and absentee votes

I just cant understand how these kind of actions can be done in US without severe punishment. Here in Finland, anyone caught trying to influence a voter in any other way than trough advertisement would be sent straight to jail. Spreading false information about the election, threatening, intimidating and harrassing potential voters, manipulating tickets, openly lying about the other candidate etc. How can US claim to be democratic and free country when even the election system is that corrupt.

Some group is sending people notices that because of turnout, or some other reason, Republicans vote on Nov 4, and Democtats on Nov 5. They have done that in the past. I hope no one falls for it. If I had a notice on my door like that I'd take it to the cops or the courthouse. Or maybe the local paper. I live in a college town and some people have been telling students that they cannot vote here, they have to vote in their hometowns. That is a lie.

What's real annoying is sometimes you hear on the conservative talk shows that people who don't know the issues shouldn't vote. It sounds like it might be time to have a prison free for all. The dems could have a prison where they could just grab republican officials and throw them in a hole, and republicans could try to do the same if there are enough of them left. This way we could break out of the two party system for a while. It would be like taking a vacation from normalized political degeneracy. Along with other southern states, Georgia's election process is still monitored by the federal government as a result of the 1965 voting rights act. This is a result of past misdeeds. So they can't unilaterally take action like this w/o Federal approval. With Bush running the Federal government, that's probably not much of a protection, though.

I live in Ga. currently,and although I've never been arrested in my life I was "purged" from the rolls in 06?Mind you I wasn't "allowed" to vote in 04"because I was purged from the rolls in 03 because I didn't vote in 2000?WTF?I couldn't vote in the caucuses because my address changed?But I now fully registered.I plan on going to TRY and vote early today.But Gotdayum!...they made it hard!

I do believe the Republicnas do these illegal purges right before the elections on purpose, but not for the reasons you cite. You can't really purge enough people to make much of a difference. but they do it so that the Democrats have to waste time and effort at this crucial time fighting these illegal tactics. I am from Georgia, but I live in Japan. When I faxed a request for an absentee ballot for the primaries, everything was cool. When I faxed a request for an absentee ballot for the general I waited a long time, but nothing. I asked my parents to see what happened. The office said they "did not receive the fax". Both times, I used the same number and the number did not change. My parents applied for me, but they had to go twice to see if they mailed it. It took three weeks to get here. OBAMA '08!

Lawsuits won't help, because by the time they happen, the elections will be long over. The best solution would be for ALL voters to go to the polls with their passport (if they have one), birth certificate, SSN, drivers license, and a utility bill with their name and address on it. That way, if they're told they're "not citizens", they'll have proof to back them up on the spot. but regardless, it will slow the process down a LOT, so if your state lets you vote early, DO IT ASAP!!!!

the only, very slim upside to this story is that early voter turnout in GA is OVERWHELMING... i voted on october 3rd and even then, the polling place was packed. so, yeah, the GOP are some shady motherfuckers, but obama's emphasis on "early voting for change" has def made an impact. i rejoice a lil bit everyday i see GA get lighter and lighter pink. ^_^
