I used to sing this into my lava lamp, like it was a microphone, and watch the video on Alternative Nation with CC on so I could learn those tricky words! Thanks for the great flashback. I still love this song!
The early to mid 90's were a golden age. Sumptuous diversity in FM radio music, introduction of internet, the WindowsPC revolution, no Cold War/Nuclear War fear (if you were there, you know the capitals are deserved).
@drstrangeblog I used to have the lyric sheet that came with the tape. If I remember correctly, it's "The comfort of a knowlage of our rise above the sky, that will never parallel the challenge of an aquisition in the here and now". Hope this helps.lol
This is why I miss the 90's so much. Music these days are rehashed, overly synthesized, and the so-called singers "voice" isn't even there own, it's evened out with a voice machine. I hate about 90% of the music out there now.
The original Melrose Place series was one of the best high drama serials of the 1990s. Having this Letters To Cleo track as its closing theme for much of its run just made it all the better!
I loved the mid nineties. I remember watching 120 minutes on Sunday nights. I love how her hair looks un-brushed and kind of dirty. This is a good song but I would not have admitted it back then. This singer gives me much to think about.
I always thought this band would blow up bigger than they did. One great song, other good songs, maddeningly cute singer... The sound and look of the band was very "now" at the time. Maybe that's why they didn't get bigger; rock fans were very skeptical at the time, always wary of being snowed by music that was too "hip" or "corporate." Great band tho.
I feel like a doofus that I overlooked this group back when they were new. (I remember seeing the vid on Beavis & Butt-Head, and maybe on 120 Minutes.) At least I stayed out of the Nirvana vs. Pearl Jam debate. (Everyone in my high school was embroiled in it, but I stayed out of the loop by being partial to Matthew Sweet.)
@NxDragon76 Oh yes, I remember that! There were the "cooler" kids (IMHO) who took the side of Nirvana, and then the not-as-cool kids all wore the Pearl Jam shirts. But I had plenty of friends on both sides. Fond memories. :-)
Here and now--a place I'd NOT like to be. I must be getting too nostalgic. I lived the 90's and couldn't wait they were over. Now I wish I could go back.........
This look (the non-tight cutoffs-over-black-tights) is having a major resurgence in San Francisco right now (spring 2011) among teen/college-aged young women. :)
Goooood, I've been on a 90's nostalgia kick forever now. When I hear this stuff it actually brings tears to my eyes, because the 90's was a great time period for music. The shitty thing is, I didn't realize at the time how great it actually was. Now that it's gone, I wish it were back.
Jumped Shark- I am totally in agreement. BTT - Women in the 90's were so sexy! Smart, bold, passionate about life, social justice, open minded.... Man I miss those days!
Damn my friends and I had the biggest crush on her in 1995. I thought the 80s had great music but looking at what is happening today the 90s are a golden age compared to 2011. Sad
@ashland1977 I thought the 80's had horrible music, 90's was a big improvement, but right now there are so many fantastic adult contemporary, rock, blues, and folk bands it is mind blowing. Rap and Pop have taken a hit in quality imo.
@ashland1977 I thought the 80's had horrible music, 90's was a big improvement, but right now there are so many fantastic adult contemporary, rock, blues, and folk bands it is mind blowing. Rap and Pop have taken a hit in quality imo.
That's like mid-90s alt-girl in a nutshell: cut-off thrift store jeans that aren't tight with belt and black tights. There ya go. Just add sum Breeders, Veruca Salt and call me and we'll do shrooms later and listen to Phish.
Yes. Kay Handley is kinda tatted and tore up. The poster who thinks otherwise will never see her that way. I'd pass on a casual encounter with her. I suspect most guys also would unless they can close their eyes and picture her from this video. Just google her pictures.
@BTTis4me I dress like this. I actually thought I created it, the cutoff shorts with black tights, but I've seen people in the 90s wear it, so I guess I didn't.

@tat2kat70 never ever ever let anyone make you feel guilty about your pleasures. I love metal too, I love punk and pop and LTC is in my top 5 ever. Always will be I suspect.I've seen big burly bikers with tats everywhere get excited when I put LTC on the jukebox. Gotta love them.
Not true, I lived through the 70s 80s and 90s and although different people listened to different things, they all had character that this decades lacks.
@Zippymt I don't agree at all. Maybe its because you're a bit older that you can't see it, do decade squish together once your hit 30? But its not like the last 10 years was dull.
In 2020, now-teenagers will hear Kings of Leon and feel the same nostalgia that I feel for Letters to Cleo, Sneaker Pimps, Elastica and the Cardigans.
@bearofhappiness I did not mean there is no good music out there now but the norm is very lack luster. The last Decade may not have been dull but what was it about? I may very well just be getting too old to appreciate the world around me as I once did but I honestly think it is more that there is very little culture right now.
fucking love this song. reminds me of the 5th grade
