Read his book MindHunter and youll realise the sacrifice that goes into the job of a profiler. You never heard of them till Hollywoods Silence of the lambs and yet they do so much and are never acknowledged.Thank you John Douglas and team.
John Douglas is certainly one of the world´s top experts on serial killers, murderers, rapists, etc., but having read his books, I have to say, that somehow he lost his own humanity on his way.
and yes, until I have become more actualized and have a platform to talk to the world, youtube will suffice. I'm a college boy with free time and rational thought and I'm sharing it.
@wojovox still your comments hold no real substance whatsoever. You slate Douglas' methods with no concrete disproofs. How are we meant to take you seriously when you spew comments like a hate activist group. Maybe if you'd dedicated some time to creating a quality comment on this video, others would start seeing your point.
@wojovox until then we will all remain unconvinced. I'm open to opinions here, I'm not the kind to thumb down anything but you haven't sparked my thoughts, All of your statements are too vague and generic.
@wojovox So what's your deal? You do this shit for a living? You teach at some community college? Or are you just another youtube comment critic who feels better about himself by slagging others? Do tell..
Wish it made me feel better about myself. I fucking need to communicate through a greater medium. Hopefully I get there, I'm after a PHD in any aspect of biopsychology.
I'm upset because I see humans just accepting, not just this, but any claimant without looking at the collected data.
Go look for yourself in an ACTUAL scientific journal regarding criminal profiling. Tell me it's better than chance then.
I have so much respect for those courageous enough to say "I don't know", or "I'm wrong", or even "I'm not right about a lot of shit".
[concerning this] If anyone brought forth credible evidence of criminal profiling working better than statistical chance outcomes, I would thank them right away and say I was wrong about all of this. (and I know I havn't offered evidence against, via links, but I know with a unbiased search anyone can find it).
I took a course in Criminology at University of North Carolina. We spent a week discussing the flaws of profiling. We looked at data already collected.
Criminal Justice and Behavior (Vol. 35 No. 10, October 2008, 1257-1276)
The Criminal Profiling Illusion: Whats Behind the Smoke and Mirrors?
Brent Snook, Richard M. Cullen, Craig Bennell, Paul J. Taylor, and Paul Gendreau.
criminal profiling is like a polygraph test, not that you bring it to mind.
A polygraph can read the body's phsiology, but cannot truely detect a lie.
A criminal profile can make an 'educated' assumption, but the chances of it being right are slim and none.
yes it's worked in a few cases, it's called statistical chance. But for us to depend on criminal profiling for anything at all makes next to no sense. We have to be responsible and think critically here.
It should also be stated that Douglas does not support polygraph tests. Polygraph testing really only has about a 61% Accuracy rate. Polygraph advocates claim upwards of 90%. But, independent studies agree with that they are only around 61% accurate, and in the cases of some of the "sickest" minds, accuracy drops to nearly zero, especially for an offender that does not feel any remorse.
The more common the crime, the less useful profiling becomes; it's all about psychology, they ( the profilers) help narrow down a list of suspects, give the investigation a direction; it all comes down to " walking in the shoes" of the offender. ( why, how, victimology etc.) Nevertheless profiling is not an exact science ( obviously), but a hit ratio of 10%seems relativly low in my view !
72white i believe that profiling can be useful tool for catching serial offenders or solve crimes that are out of the ordinary. especially because theres usually no direct link between offenders and victims.they can add to the investigation not solve it.and its not just educated guesswork most profiles are built on precedent and the singular factors of each specific case. plus they're responsible for the intro of vicap or investigation or interragtion strategies when dealing with such criminals
He didn't pipoint the bridge where the splash was heard ! all bridges and rivers, especially the Chattahoochee were being closly monitored. Just for the record
Have you ever read Mindhunter? How about you ask him about the Atlanta Child Killer. He solved that, and pinpointed the exact bridge that poilice needed to survey, and Wayne Williams dropped the body there and was captured.
Two of my best friends are retired F.B.I. agents and they say profilers are useless blowhards who are right about 10% of the time.Ask Douglass about the Green River killer and how he blew that case almost single handedly.
@SleepyNekoChan In 2001 he spoke at the university I attend now. I was kind of bummed when I learned of it but turns out we recorded those things so I watched it in our library. I think that's as close as I will get.

Really think for yourself, is this scientific?
Don't take my word for it, attempt to be objective.
Or
Just continue to give thumbs down to my comments because you don't like what I say. Continue to just accept the world at face value.

Douglas, by the way, has had many more failures than success stories.
Don't take my word for it, find the unbiased documents.
That means, don't just google it.

72whitegrapes - His profile fit Ridgway pretty closely, have you researched the GRK case at all?
Also the police made the decision to not pursue Ridgway initially because he passed two polygraphs. I guess that's all Douglas' fault though?
Wojo - LOL is all I am going to say.

scares the shit out of me to see people give thumbs down to those pointing out that criminal profiling is a fraud.
You are misleading yourself. Go out and look critically at the UNBIASED evidence.
This kind of criminal profiling needs to stop.
wojovox 2 years ago
This is JUNK science. Not even science at all.
Douglas is wrong 100% of the time. We need to start critically reviewing evidence and understand things are not how we perceive them.
Douglas is a fraud and he has fooled himself. Criminal profiling is a crime in itself to me.
