Mi-24 doing things like AH-64 can not do, while the Mi-24 can do all things that AH-64 can do, just not as good.

Think Mi-24 is most comparable to the MH-60L.

@MrCastodian An Mi-24 cannot do every thing the AH-64 can do. It does not have a turret that can slew 180 degrees. Also, an Mi-24 cannot use a mast mounted sight to see over things, giving it protection.

But I would say the MH-60L is comparable to the Mi-24; in only certain aspects though.

It can work in every aspect in an attack role, same time as it can function as a transport.

Personally believe that many within the U.S. military would like to have a number of "Americanized" Mi-24 in their arsenal if it were politically possible, would be much more effective in for example Afghanistan where you fight a guerrilla and terrorist.

this documentary is talking about some 50 year old Hind. The new hinds are so much better! MI-35M has night ops gear. The current MI 24 is like an M16. Both are modernized. They wont keep the problems as it is for decades. MI 24 is currently serving over 60 countries one of them USA as OpFor. Thats how devastating it is.

The reason why the Mil Mi-24 still continues to be popular today since the 1970s is that it is rugged, heavilly armoured, heavilly armed, scary looking(psychological warfare), easilly maintained and CHEAP.

It may look silly, but I'm sure it's difficult for pilots to concentrate when they're uncomfortably warm, especially when piloting a heavy gunship such as this one.

Well, all helicopters nowadays are pretty much fucked when there are guided missles around... Doesnt matter whether they're soviet or american, in vietnam even small arms proved deadly, same in iraq, even for apaches.

For a helicopter the hind has good survivabilty - and the armament and even the looks became a psychological factor that made the rebels in afghanistan afraid of it, even unarmed.
