  • i use my my nuvi 500 on a fishing ski in the sea. no problems, great unit

  • ima go driving in the water ..lol .. this is what im looking for it going on my jetski ..thanks 4 the vid ..

  • popular choice with snowmobilers who get thier units wet all the time, great video.

  • That good video or better than good gps

  • The 500 is not just for vehicle navigation, but also can be used for hiking, or with the addition of a card, used for marine navigation. Great video showing just how waterproof it is.

  • Someone has a submarine to test the navigation underwater? It is nonsense to show that it "works" underwater. Because if it REALLY works out the Garmin 310XT would have no problem to track and record the position that someone swan, what it is NOT true. It is water resistant right, so it means, it will not spoil, but it DOES NOT work out underwater, so please don't try to sell something that is not true.

  • @airtonj

The point of the video is to show that exposure to water does not harm the GPS, even when completely submerged for 30 minutes. That makes it a viable choice for outdoor use. It's obviously not to suggest that you can drive underwater.

  • @airtonj. I dont agree with you , it`s nonsence what you say! its stupid your comment, no one would be driving underwater.. . it clearly says it is waterproof , the point is to make clear that the water doesnt harm the gps in case of accident. open your mind!

  • @airtonj Obviously you are missing the point. No, you are not going to navigate underwater. This test only demonstrates how the GPS unit would handle the average users wet exposure. For instance, a RAIN STORM on a motorcycle. Amazing!

  • Yea... I always go flying underwater... What??! You dont!?

  • It's not like I need it to travel undersea with a car right? Jamesbond maybe

  • This is actually good, for motorcycles!

  • WOW this is handy if you crash into a river

  • I drive a jeep and keep the top off most of the time. My Nuvi 260 was not waterproof and i forgot to get it out of my jeep the other night. Well now i am buying the Nuvi 550 so if i ever forget again.

  • Ok people with the smart-aleck comments the garmin 500 series was designed with the thought that someone OTHER than car users can employ them also......like Motorcyclists...and yes some motorcycles do have ABS and yes some of us do get caught in the rain.

  • I was tired of getting directions from my goldfish, this video finally solved my problem!!

  • your going to need this to find atlantis

  • Is it still waterproof if you plug in the usb-connector?

What I really want to know is if I need to unplug the usb power supply cable if I'm out driving and it starts to rain.

  • Oh Hell Yea! I can use this Scuba Diving.

  • :P cant be that water proof if it thought u were driving while it was in da fish tank

  • I think it was a demo.

  • This is great!!!, i always go with my fishbowl in the car, from now my fishes will never get lost again!!!!

  • Wow, good thing it wasn't your personal GPS unit.

  • omg u realy like to put things under water :D

  • damn, that is really waterproof!

  • can i use it waliking ??

  • 2 clear spermicideless condoms glued with latex glue make a cheaper nuvi 205 89euros!! waterproof too!!! I use it for canoeing and paragliding...motorcycling too is sdhc compatible too!!

  • Are they all waterproof?

  • This just went on sale at bestbuy from 399 to 279. I picked one up today, for the car and boat, and ordered the bluechart disk. This is one kick ass little machine.

  • I bought one two days ago and was wondering if you wouldn't mind telling me were to buy a bluechart disk, I live in the east coast in Chesapeake bay area.

    thanks

  • If you go to the official garmin website, they have it. But I might add that after the install, I found that the data offered with the blue chart is not as specific as I had hoped. Although it gives you some depths, it doesn't go into detail the way I need. I fish a lot in Jamaica Bay, NY, and found that it had very little data for that area. It does have some offshore data but not specific. It might prove better in the Chesapeake area. As a result, I purchased the Lowrance HDS 5.

  • This unit is perfect for Jet Skiers, thats why I'm getting one!

  • hmm modify it so it floats

  • I use mine on my snowmobile.

  • are you gona go scuba diving? lol

  • You know I wonder how deep into the ocean it can go before it looses a signal. May have to reinforce the seams with glue but if it works within 100 feet it would prove useful.

  • Is that for when it directs you to turn into a lake?

  • yea i didn't think of motorcycles

  • But can you use it for diving?

  • the have boating maps, but im not sure how detailed they are for diving

  • why do you need a waterproof garmin unless your useing it outdoors

  • Only thing I can think of is that people on motorcycles would need it waterproof.

  • The Nuvi 500 is also for hiking, biking, and boating, as well as automobiles. When you hike, there are often streams or lakes.
