  • Garrison Keillor is a mean-spirited homophobe. And a hypocrite at that- married 3 times and smugly lecturing gays on what marriage is all about. Look up his nasty column in Salon 'Stating the Obvious,' & Dan Savage's hilarious take down.

    He's truly a terrible person.

Alnd that creepy obscene caller voice. Yikes! Delighted that he's leaving NPR.

  • @thetyrant84 Out of the hundreds of things this man has writen and done, you focus on the most negative. What does that say about you?

And I for one love his voice.

  • @lonelygnome1 Look up his editorial in Salon called "Stating the Obvious." He traffics in 60s-era stereotypes about flamboyant gay men in chartreuse pants and makes the insane, dumb argument that gays shouldn't have kids because they are too attention hungry. It was wildly illogical and totally uncalled for. No one asked him to write this bile. So what that says about me is that I take deep offense to being told how a family should be by a man who clearly does not live by his own standards.

  • @thetyrant84 To say that he is a terrible person because he has a different opinion than you is thick-headed.

  • @lonelygnome1 opponents of gay rights seem to think they're entitled to a civil discourse. Sorry if people get testy when you casually tell them they shouldn't have the full rights of American citizens! Read the editorial. He is a terrible person because he's a bigot, the argument he makes is hateful and nonsensical. "gay men shouldn't have kids because they're too flamboyant." You need to take a look at yourself if you think is merely a difference of opinion and not the worst kind of homophobia

  • @thetyrant84 Um, you do know he was kidding in that right? "I live in a small world -- the world of entertainment, musicians, writers -- in which gayness is as common as having brown eyes .... And in that small world, we talk openly and we kid each other a lot. But in the larger world, gayness is controversial ... and so gay people feel besieged to some degree and rightly so ....

  • @thetyrant84 My column spoke as we would speak in my small world, and it was read by people in the larger world and thus the misunderstanding. And for that, I am sorry. Gay people who set out to be parents can be just as good parents as anybody else, and they know that, and so do I." that is his apology response

  • @thetyrant84 It's kind of like how people joke about being fat, or impotent, or their fondness of sports cars, or their love of strange potato chips, or blonde haired women who are too lazy to get rid of the brunette roots. The thing is here around Minnesota and Wisconsin, we're far more progressive here than everywhere else. We're past the point where gayness is controversial, instead it is to us just like any other common topic. Isn't that the whole point of getting gay people treated equal?

  • @thetyrant84 So relax, lay back, calm down. It's what we're known for here. Hell we drink more beer here than anywhere else but we don't get drunk as much because we're not in such a damn rush to chug it all down in some misguided attempt to prove to one's self that they're manly while imbibing something that will make them completely forget it.

  • @lonelygnome1 PS skinheads, neo-nazis and jihadists also have different opinions than me that make them terrible people.

i don't have to respect an opinion that is irresponsible, harmful to families, and completely illogical. the opinion held by people opposing same-sex marriage is just that.

  • @thetyrant84 Neo-nazis and jihadists are terrible people not because they have opinions, but because they try to force those opinions onto other people. Same-sex marriage goes agains the religions of many people and is, in a way, spitting in the faces of those religions. I'm not going to debate gay marriage with you over youtube, but there is a different side to every argument.

You should also consider the possibility that Keillor was being ironic, as he does tend to be.

  • @lonelygnome1 you won't have the debate because it's one you would lose. of course there are two sides to every argument. in this situation, one side is completely indefensible. We don't live in a theocracy- public policy isn't directed by religion.

As a 26 year old gay guy who's been in a committed & monogamous relationship for 5 years, having a serial adulterer like Garrison Keillor smugly lecture me on the sanctity of marriage indeed makes him a terrible person.

  • @lonelygnome1 How does gay marriage spit in the face of religion? Going to go out on a limb and assume you're Christian here. Leviticus prohibits homosexuality, but it also prohibits eating shellfish, wearing clothing of more than one material, working on Sundays. Do you obey these as well? The Old Testament advocates slavery, genocide, polgyamy- and yet as a modern Christian you don't interpret it as such, right? So why hold on to the one part of the Bible that hurts peoples lives today? WWJD?

  • he's so cool

  • I used to be a fan and have many of his tapes, but his liberalism always seems to get in the way. What do you expect from a state that elected a Keiilor crony Al Franklin to repesent them in congress. Pathetic.

  • We're all Americans, bud. Liberal, conservative, whatever. Time to learn to accept each other's existence.

  • @littlelouie11 dude, get over it. he's the best kind of liberal, he actually practices what he preaches and he is far more populist than the elitist leeches that make up the Democrat party today. he is someone you can disagree with, but still respect at the end of the day.

  • Very creative dude, but a liberal droog nonetheless.

  • Yes, a must see.

  • This is a must see!

  • Looks fantastic. Can't wait to see it.

  • Brilliant :)
