I feel bad for what happened to Henrietta but even though what happened her I always see Henrietta blush at Jose I think Henrietta likes him oooooooooooooooooooo!
woot reconized grey ayres voice lol gonna watch it looks good. even tho seen this in lots of animes brain-washed by gov and put robotics in em but realy it never gets boring:)
"I now see the system could use some improvement." Reallty? What was your first clue? *spoiler alert* Henrietta snapping or Elsa going ax murder-crazy?
At first glance many people (including me) would think this is just an anime made to attract attention of viewers (you know, a bunch of girls with guns killing people) but it's so much more then that, it's so emotional and stuff, the ending almost made me cry.
@Killuminatyi Agreed. I was told to watch this series and raised an eyebrow just hearing the name. Instead it just sucked me in and has to be one of the best series I've ever seen. This is the ultimate anime for demonstrating the degenerative effect treating people as a means rather than an end has on all involved. Not only are the girls forced to do the most horrific things but even the handlers who have any conscience suffer knowing what they're doing. Nothing comes of it but pain.
Very sad moments in this show, like when Rico has to kill the boy she has feelings for.So fucked up.Or Henrietta they hint she was raped.and they had to remove her uterus. So sad.
Definitely one of the best anime's out there if you want something thought provoking and free of cliches. It's horrifying and beautiful -- and you'll fall in love with these girls by the end of the thirteen episodes.
*thinks for a moment* you know, it seems whenever there are bad-assed fighting girls, they usually fight strictly male grunts or middle-ranking bad guys, few leaders bad guys, and, in only a few animes, precious few, high-ranking female villians. I dunno if it's just me or has anyone else noticed it?
@kaminohanshin The show isn't too focused on violence. The trailer exaggerates how much fighting there is. But yeah, most of the enemies are nameless grunts. There is a young guy (20 or younger) and a woman later on
Not your typical good and evil black and white style of anime. This picture is painted in shades of gray, and focuses a lot on the unique psychological profile of the little girls turned assassin. Really a must see.
@narutosuperfan335 very little actual romance. There are very touching brother/sister moments between the handlers and assassins, though. And Rico briefly falls in love with a bellhop, but she is forced to kill him during an assignment. In this series there's no love and fireworks here.
@TheRealAkaRai There's quite a few animes that do not take place in Japan. And even so, that is not what I meant. I meant that it was a very different thing seeing a black man in anime. And it's all majority population anyways, that's why most shows are about white people...well, depending on where you live.
@ShadowSoldior It's actually impossible to be a black citizen of Japan (or white for that matter, or hispanic) because their policy for dealing with the booming population and limited space is that you cannot become a citizen unless both your parents were born in Japan, and of Japanese descent, and you're born there too.
With anime, unless there's a specific Earth setting (like Italy here, or Britain in Hellsing) I'd just as well assume races from this planet have no bearing on what they are.
1:35 was so sad for Rico. This anime took me 2 days to finish for season 1! and it was gooooooooooooooooooooooooodie! I just really can't believe it came out in 2005 and 5 years later, I begin watching it as of June 30th to July 1st... Such a good anime too.
i dont get y people think this is all so dark or creepy i mean there are many shounen action animes who have teens or kids kill others. even the mainstream naruto, bleach i mean ninjas are by definition assassins and shinigami=death god which speaks for itself
others like shana, the to aru kagaku/majitsu animes all have teen characters who deal with terrorist, murders, and some pretty grotesque shit
@whendeathdies The differince its that this show plays it seriously. In things like naruto even if the characters have a hard time, part of you still feels like there on an adventure. These kids it feels more real the psych and everything. Them killing people seems more real somehow.
This series was so great. It's an instant classic for me. It's a shame that the new creators ruined it by changing the artwork. Rico looks like a dumb blondie! I'll go and point a gun to their head and show them what a real gunslinger girl looks like.. Die my little friend...
"Oh pitiful shadow lost in the darkness,
Bringing torment and pain to others,
Oh damned soul wallowing in your sin,
Perhaps it is time to die
Would thy like to expiriance death?" -Jijoku shojo
@Nekologic No. They're two completely different voice actors. You must hear the difference. Rico is voiced by Luci Christian. Angelica is voiced by Monica Rial. Mayu is voiced by Cynthia Martinez. Look it up if you don't believe me.
@2828Nutcracker - Well it really all depends on what anime you are watching! Anime like this has a fair bit of blood, as you can see in this preview. I don't really think there is another anime out there that is more gory than Elfen Lied though. But if you are into a action/suspense kind of anime I would recommend Code Geass (its on Bandai Entertainments Channel). There is blood, but I wouldn't say that there is a lot. :]
Just a quick question, don't get mad! How gory is this anime? I tried to watch elfen lied, and that was too gory for my liking. I've watched little clips of this anime, and little blood splatters coming out when someones shot dosn't bother me. But brains and guts flying across the room is too much. I need an answer!
This show deffinately stood out amongst so many animes. It has a real deep, vehement meaning to it that rattles you with despair and pity for these girls. The action is fine, but the chemistry of the characters relations is so moving, and sometimes chilling. A real jewel amongst anime. Love the musical scores!
This show is not about : Little Girls with Big Guns.
When really, the main attraction of this show is how the girls and their handlers cope with each other in their f*cked up world. They struggles.
The girls are basically dead(not literally) before they got taken in and change into cyborgs. (Children = easier to adapt to cybernetic implants as they're still growing)
It break one's heart when you see them kill. They're not that different from ordinary little girls, but the world they live in.
@AirStylesWindia Well said, it seemed so sad to see how coldly they dispatched their foes, and innocent people. Rico seemed the coldest of them all, like when she gunned down that kid in the hotel.
Triela is my favorite in this show... i don't know why I think its because of her attitude or her outfit but she's my fav. And this show just kicks major ass...
Well, I guess there might be a glimmer of hope for the possibility of a live-action version. If they can make that stinking pile of turd called "Kick-Ass" into a movie, then there surely should be no objection to creating a live-action version of something as magnificient as Gunslinger Girl.
@Xonx68 I just saw Kick-Ass and it was a VERY good time at the movies. I could'nt help but think of Gunslinger Girl when Hit Girl goes blazing into action, it was fantastic! Good. It emphasises just how creepy those girls are. And one of the major themes of the show, which tends to show the girls as cute and very creepy in the same moments.
She's being polite while SHOOTING the guy. Emotionlessly. When there's been a sort of macabe romance subplot developing between them.
but thats not what the creator was implying as he wrote this, they are just little girls FORCED to be assasins, while they are all trying to find out if their emotions are theirs or the conditioning. Obviously, Rico was felling a real emotion while being with the dude. Then Jean tells her to kill anyone who sees her on a mission so she has too. She doesnt want to! and the japanese version is still better.
In the way that they're bouncing up and down on a bed, all cute and conventional, but they're talking about how few people they've had to shoot that week.
I found the Japanese voices sort of whiney. Too high pitched, yeah? Sounded kinda fake.
What are you talking about the voice actors did extremely well in matching voices to the characters. This is one of a handful of animes where the dubbing company actually succeeded in hiring quality voice actors.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Who are you kidding? The voice acting in this is absolutely abysmal. The main guy sounds like some 20 year old american guy with a lisp, not an italian agent.
First of all "american with lisp"... lol, awesome.
Secondly, the voice acting in this was well done. If you want to talk about a bad selection in casting then you should be talking about Higurashi. That dubbing was abysmal.
Gunslinger Girl season 1 and Gunslinger Girl season 2 were both awesome. I have them both. I am happy to say though that Gunslinger Girl season ends happily for once.
He saw her on a mission, she didn't know what to say to him, also, well there's flaw's in the reconditioning apparently and obviously they think shooting someone solves EVERY problem. I can agree to an extent, oh well can't blame them they kick ass!! :)
There are flaws to the girls, but the reconditioning isn't the reason why she shoot him. She was given a standing order to kill anyone that sees her on a mission. I would assume that all the girls have this order, but they only show Rico receiving this order. The flaw in that scene wasn't her shooting him, it was the length of time it took her to take action.
holy crap i never thought of it like that but your right to the average person killing the some one that did not deserve it would be the flaw but the mind of the ones giving orders isn't thinking who but how long thats amazing that you thought of that your awsome
@draco606 in my opinion, i think rico's hesitation is because she is the youngest one and according to Jean she cant do anything on her own and yes the order to kill any one that sees her on a job applies to all
@xxskyvipe2rxx that"s what i meant about Rico. Her hesitation is her flaw, Triela her attitude, and Henrietta with her affection and i think in the show they were trying to imply that she would develop memory loss with more reconditioning. I say that for Henrietta, because when asked where she learned "are just smaller tasks" (from the Ep. about Elsa's death) she said she couldn't remember, but she learned it form Jose.
The girl has a mechanical body. However, she is still an adolescent child.

Would it really be too much to ask for the girls to be voiced by girls rather than women in their twenties/thirties talking in a silly voice?
norsef 2 years ago
It can't be that way because girls have to go to school, while women in their 30s and 20s do this as work....
sakuravsino123 2 years ago
What are you talking about the voice actors did extremely well in matching voices to the characters. This is one of a handful of animes where the dubbing company actually succeeded in hiring quality voice actors.

Who are you kidding? The voice acting in this is absolutely abysmal. The main guy sounds like some 20 year old american guy with a lisp, not an italian agent.
MitsukoLi 2 years ago
First of all "american with lisp"... lol, awesome.
Secondly, the voice acting in this was well done. If you want to talk about a bad selection in casting then you should be talking about Higurashi. That dubbing was abysmal.

they arent voiced by children in the original japanese version either
because children aren't competent enough for voice acting
not enough to meet the cast atleast

Gunslinger Girl season 1 and Gunslinger Girl season 2 were both awesome. I have them both. I am happy to say though that Gunslinger Girl season ends happily for once.

can someone tell me why she kill the boy
Summer891234 2 years ago
He saw her on a mission, she didn't know what to say to him, also, well there's flaw's in the reconditioning apparently and obviously they think shooting someone solves EVERY problem. I can agree to an extent, oh well can't blame them they kick ass!! :)
HaylieBogan 2 years ago
There are flaws to the girls, but the reconditioning isn't the reason why she shoot him. She was given a standing order to kill anyone that sees her on a mission. I would assume that all the girls have this order, but they only show Rico receiving this order. The flaw in that scene wasn't her shooting him, it was the length of time it took her to take action.
draco606 2 years ago 15
holy crap i never thought of it like that but your right to the average person killing the some one that did not deserve it would be the flaw but the mind of the ones giving orders isn't thinking who but how long thats amazing that you thought of that your awsome
koolycali 2 years ago
@draco606 in my opinion, i think rico's hesitation is because she is the youngest one and according to Jean she cant do anything on her own and yes the order to kill any one that sees her on a job applies to all
xxskyvipe2rxx 1 year ago
@xxskyvipe2rxx that"s what i meant about Rico. Her hesitation is her flaw, Triela her attitude, and Henrietta with her affection and i think in the show they were trying to imply that she would develop memory loss with more reconditioning. I say that for Henrietta, because when asked where she learned "are just smaller tasks" (from the Ep. about Elsa's death) she said she couldn't remember, but she learned it form Jose.
