i've got a question. i play metal, and my pedal board consists of only 3 pedals. however, the power going through all the 3 pedals have created an annoying and loud "hum". what is the best way to approach this? a noise gate pedal is my first idea, however i'd like to know if i have more options, thanks if anyone can help!
@MrIplayguitar This pedal is deffinetly not the best. the boss ns-2 is alot better. has more features for even a little cheaper. I actually owned the decimater and it stopped working and the company would not even do anything even though i had the factory warranty. anyhow i got rid of it and got the boss ns-2 and it killllsss the decimator
Yeah, I have 2 decimator pedals I brought from Musician's Friend's scratch&dent that still work. I am lucky, but every time I window shop Musicians Friend, they are selling decimators that need work cause they are not functioning or not fully functional. No doubt Boss has a superior track record.
Yes, it will get rid of your feedback. If you ever run any pedals, just make sure the decimator is the last pedal in your chain. Never put a Decimator in the loop anyway. You need an ISP G-string for the loop.
not to be rude or offensive but who cares about the language this is a pedal demo none of you are answering any questions about the pedal because your to worried about what languge the guy speaks haha
any suggestions on which version would be better suited for me? the decimator or the g-string version? my amp does not have an effects loop but i have a lot of pedals up front. i see that with the g-string i can run my pedals in the g-string's loop eliminating noise. would this be better than getting the regular decimator and just running it last in my chain?
@pedalspark If you want sustain, get a compressor. Your noise gate runs at the back of your chain, because you are putting noise in your signal with your dirt pedal, therefore, you have your gate AHEAD of the noise, not behind it.. sorry dude, that logic just doesnt work. Follow the manual on this one. Put all your delay, and time based pedals (phaser too) in your fx loop if you have one. ITs just one more thing that wont suck any tone from your signal.
@MetalAC21 If you dont have or use an effects loop, the g string is pointless. Just get the regular decimator and put if as the last pedal in your chain and set it around 40.
so, your guitar goes straight into guitar, then into the rest of your pedals?
i actually dont use any pedals, my Spider Valve 212 already has really good effects/distortions, however i find when i turn the volume up, its just really squealy and has a lot of feedback. I already know its not a problem with my tubes, so would i just plug my guitar straight into the noisegate, and then into the amp?

1. Boss NS-2
2. ISP decimator
3. MXR smart gate
please help i want something at a good price and stops the hissing and hum without screwing up my sustain and tone. plus which pedal stops the hissing and humming on high gain distortion. please reply. thanks.

Yeah I dont haven any tone issues with my NS-2 and I like the Daisy Chain option. I picked up a 9v 1500ma adapter and it can run all my pedals perfectly. Except my Wah and Whammy have their own power source.

The true noise reduction units are large rack units, but this is the best noise gate in a pedal ive tried. You won't sacrifice a lot of your tone with this one.
The result will be that the only signals that pass through the first hush is the stuff you want heard. then you get an even sound and more sustain from your compressor (i use an mxr super comp) And then the only stuff that reaches your dist pedal is your playing, not the small annoying slide sounds, puffs, whaps and so on ;). I use a blackstar tube dist box which generates alot of noise, so i use another hush after that. and trust me the sound coming out of my amp is perfect. purer than pure:).
heres what you do: Buy either 1 or 2 rocktron hush pedals. The first you put very first in your chain, and turn up the sensitivity till you no longer hear these unwanted sounds. This is not a high setting unless you have your pickups sitting too close to the strings. then you put a compressor next in your chain to tidy things up and help that slight sustain loss you get from the hush(very minimal loss). Then you have your dist pedal. and if that is noisy in itself you use the other hush( cont.)
youre absolutely wrong. Shanedv... i had the excapt same problem. people just wouldnt listne to it and kept saying it was my technique. but it wasnt tho. If you have hi gain settings you barely have to touch the strings to make noise. This is very frustrating especially in quiter solo's like hevens door etc. Dont beat yourself up over it tho. Even slash today makes some noises from the other strings, it isnt head in context but can be heard when playing by yourself. I have the answer tho.(cont.)
This wont take away the sliding noise of your fingers against the strings, but it will handle all buzzing and hissing from gain and feedback in the amp.
that one can go either in the loop or in your chain, depending if you want to cut interference from either the preamp or your guitar. There's a new one called the Decimator G-string that can do both at once.
so If i use a distortion pedal, put it in the chain and if I use the Gain from my amp (Laney LCR15 Combo) then put it in the FX loop? Referring to the decimator regular. not the g-string. I don't think i need to pay that much for a noise suppressor so the regular one is fine. I get this super high pitch squeal when i run my distortion with a compressor(BOSS CS-3). I have a Ibanez S620EXQM with a PAF JOE Neck PUP and an EVO2 Bridge.

it doesnt affect the tone of the guitar, if you notice when he turned the distortion way up it started buzzing. and when he turned the decimator on the buzzing stopped
jockslaine 4 years ago
Is it me, or does the decimator do bugger all? I couldn't tell the difference.
kyral210 4 years ago
it cancels the hum hav a look wen he turns the dist right up and then the decimator... it doesnt effect the tone which is whu it is so good

I have a guyatone noise reduction pedal which is pretty cool but this ISP one sounds better! keeps the buzz quiet and is not in a rush to cut off your sound when u stop playing :)
