How she wasn't doing it for male attention but because it was something that made her feel something. Many of her songs are related to her eating disorder and her dysfunctional childhood. this song can be about a lot of things, depending on the person. i dont think of an ex, it makes me think of high school, fitting in and wanting to be your own person but your to scared to be alone and be diffrent.

oh and think of it in a diffrent way, she could be talking to her mom. like she dosent want a relationship like her parents had, shes scared to fall in love.
