  • why are people pretending idina is this amazing singer!!! she is OK! but that is it! i find it hard to listen to her wicked stuff because i dont think it is good! just saying!

  • I love all the Idina fanboys. Idina is fantastic, but the "NOBODY IS EVER BETTER EVER NEVER EVER" ignorance is just sad.

  • Idina IS elphaba. They where made for each other. No actress or singer in the world will ever play this part better.

  • This video just proves Idina truly is the best Elphaba ever. All Elphabas may stun with their Defying Gravity's renditions but Idina's is so powerful whether or not she's sick or totally fine like in this one. Seriously, WOW!

  • @WDWFanatic55 Well I think she is 'okay' but my favorite Elphaba is Willemijn Verkaik (who played Elphaba in 3 languages German/English and Dutch). She did a musical session with Wicked composer Steven Schwartz @Birdland New Yord and he just LOVED her voice. Willemijn has also won a award for the best Elphaba carachter...

  • You really can't beat the originals, Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth forever!

  • Idina Menzel is the most talented belter I have ever seen! She is just amazing with everything she does! I do hope she can reprise her role as Elphaba again! I so want to meet her! 😃😃😃😃

  • do you have the full show up for trade?

  • The website doesn't work....

  • Idina IS Elphaba.... she MADE the character.

  • @ezzibbes Actually Stephanie J. Block invented Elphaba.

  • Dee is my favorite, maybe its because i know her.... or something :)

  • @DedmonStudios YOU KNOW HER?!?!?!?!!?

  • Idina is so amazing.Best Elphaba by far!!!

  • i would like to make a trade with you for this... please message me as soon as possible, thank you

  • @samryb You could just use savevid or keepvid to download this.

  • I got balcony seats for when it comes to town! I feel very sad though i didnt get to see idina live...

  • she's the most natural

    -gotta love the original!

  • ik,hou,best,van,musicals,ik,weet,miss,saigon,speelt,een,mooie,lovestory,sad,and,beautyfull

  • I've only seen Wicked live once. (With Dee Roscioli) And when she starts to fly and when she tells those guards to basically watch out for her I just starts crying in happiness for Elphaba.

  • I see one and again ... and I was always convinced that Elphaba Idina is the best! I can not help but compare their predesesoras with her every time I see them, thought it was because Idina was the first, but there is always something that I do not like when they sing this song, and Idina is that while it has a finer voice than others elphaba, is firmer at the end .. it's rare, but at least I like a lot

  • great quality

  • this is great. I would have loved to have had a chance to see her live, so when my sister's fiance told me tonight that he's seen her during the opening run on Broadway. I was so jealous of him. but wow, she's my favorite definitely. gotta love Idina

  • if i saw her live, i would die of happiness. this is absolutely amazing.

  • i seriously think the best bits through out the amazing performance is when she literally KNOCKS back all the guards, and when she sings "To those who'd ground me, take a message back from meee, tell them how i am defying gravity!" i just imagine it as like 'fear me' man this makes me almost cry every single time!

  • This song makes me cry every single time.

  • you can tell it's her first official performance because of how well she sings it. It sounds like she's been waiting to sing this song. Also her makeup isn't as great as it is now...

  • Chills. Tears. Just, ugh.

  • I think that may be the best she's ever sung it that I've seen on youtube. So fantastic <3

  • Fuckin' chills, man.

  • her "so if you care to find me, we'll look to the western sky!" is sooooo climactic here i can't even take it.

  • OK, I'm going to start going to Broadway. I've missed The King and I with Yul Brynner and SO many of the best. It's a bit of a distance, and hotels aren't cheap, but surely worth the plane and show tickets. Sigh.

  • omg... i wish i saw her live... that wouldve been amazing!

  • she should definitely be a recording artist (she's got a lot of talent in that respect); but not playing one of the most demanding roles in the west end. lets face it, this is not good for opening night.

  • @bigbigsmiles Her voice used to be a lot brighter/richer whatever you want to call it.

But in London/West End, her voice really started to take a hit in my eyes.

  • Forever and always my favorite Elphaba, with Dee as a close second. I normally don't say "the original is the best", but it really applies to Wicked - Idina's fabulous.

  • Elphaba is my hero

  • i think this performance is dreadful, definatley one of the worst defying gravitys i've seen on youtube. there are so many elphaba's who are way better. for me kerry ellis is the best!

  • @ben3585 1) She has asthma and she can't help that she's out of breath by the end of the first act. 2) If Idina was horrible she wouldn't be casted in the London production yet the OBC either. Just saying.

  • How is that the first show if KC isn't Glinda?

  • @Briaaah it was from london not broadway

  • @KMH4021 Oh! Alright. Thanks for clearing that up :)

  • She was flat the entire song.

  • When people are comparing to 'Rachel', they mean Rachel Tucker. And I agree, Rachel Tucker is far better than Idina. Idina is SO overrated.

  • Ok don't go mad. I am a huge fan of idina i have seen 6 wicked times but my elphaba will always be rachel . :)

  • Was that at the apollo Victoria theatre in London?

  • @Nickelladue Yep!! (:

  • Idina = Epic!

  • @zeroendless2 Best Ever. Will forever be the best. No one will ever beat her out. I'm sorry, not possible. Idina is here to stay as #1 Elphaba.

  • lol at people who compare her to "rachel".... I love Lea.. but damn.... Idina is already a legend.... I'd almost go as far as to rate her up there with an early Patti Lupone... I cannot wait for her to come back to the stage.

  • @MrEricrockinout Um, I'm pretty sure they're comparing her to Rachel Tucker, the current London Elphie, not Lea Michele's character in Glee.

  • good, but doesnt comparte to Rachel, in my huble opinion ;)

  • My GOD I want to go see this! XO

  • YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

  • And that...is how you show other casts how it is done. :D

  • thanks for showing close ups and faraway shots. its so annoying when people film defying gravity and its only a close up of elphaba the entire video.

  • Is it just me or does it sound like the audience is singing along

  • wow... chills....

  • II HATE THAT GLINDA

  • @shoshbekman i Know she is a loveley person in personal, but her voice on stge goes through me -_-

  • This is amazing! I also love it when they allude to this in Shrek the Musical, at the end of the "Duloc" song, lol. It's hilarious.

  • I never saw her live, but if you know music, you know she ALWAYS sung it right...

For her to elicit an applause when she flies from a BRITISH audience shows how amazing Idina was that night, and still is.

  • WHOA.

  • ITS ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ITS ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I <3 this musical!

  • I<3 this musical!!

  • i love idina's voice! but this wasnt her best. but i still love idina!

  • why are people always applauding during the song instead of just after it :S you cant even hear it properly.

  • Comment removed

  • @boffinme80 that people would want to hear it.

  • @RobbieGemini I wasn't talking to you. You do know it's rude to butt in like that? And usually I don't like people screaming over the song either but it's the first night so obviously there would be more atmosphere.

  • @boffinme80 You're on the internet. if you're going to post a comment on youtube or some other forum, then you're dillusional to not expect "butting in". It's not even butting in, it's an open statement. if you don't unintended repliers, say nothing.

  • @BlazedHearts It's still rude though. If someone kept butting in when you were trying to reply to someone I bet your reaction would be the same. And I have my opinion like everyone else but I don't like it when other people butt in otherwise the connection gets lost. And it's not dillusional at all. It's fine when I make a comment and someone comments back to say they agree or disagree but talking over another person is annoying.

  • *Tucker

  • That was great...but Rachel tickers better :) and a lot cheaper, I live near London and I went to NYC on holiday $275 per person on broadway shiiiit

  • @TotallyHumiliated Tucker ;)

But I agree, Rachel is by far my favourite Elphie, seeing her live is the most incredible experience.

  • Wonderful actress, but she is flatter than a pancake in this one.

  • @scottie0625 I have to agree. Love idina, i really do, but here she just died.

  • And that my friends is the true Elphaba.... We Love you Idina!

  • @coryizamayzing Actually...the show/music was written around Stephanie J. Block's abilities...so...

  • @dAguerreri my favorite statement i have heard!!! :-)

  • so this was the first ever wicked?

  • IF U LOOK REALLY HARD YOU CAN SEE THE LIFT

  • fucking amazing! I LOVE HER!!! best elphaba ever!

  • PHENOMENAL! She made her West End debut with a smashing performance!

  • But the notes can't be too high for Idina when the song was really written for her???!! Perhaps it's just her style as she herself said about her style - emotions and truthfulness trumps range and technical perfection...

  • @yipcarmen yea. just face it, this one kinda blew...

  • @yipcarmen Written for Stephanie J. Block first. The Wizard and I was written for Idina. The rest of the music was written for Steph's voice first.

  • @SMSProductions1

I only know that SJB read the script first. But there's no guarantee of your role in Broadway performance anyway...

I love SJB's defying gravity. Other than that, I think Idina was better in other songs. Idina and Kristin were probably the best pair for the roles together, in my opinion. I mean, you could hear that they really put their hearts into the song & role...The others were amazing as well, but it's just that you can't really feel that much of their "soul" in the songs.

  • I love Idina but to be honest she really wasn't ever that good at defying gravity. The notes were simply too high for her voice. I don't think I have ever heard her sing this song well. Every time I have seen her sing this song, it's always terrible at the end.

  • @AVIfinatic listen to her opening night, that one is amazing also there was one december 12 or something it got taken down but seriously it was soooooo amazing. but yea shes really flat in this...

  • @AVIfinatic I've gotta agree. She can hit most of the notes, but she never really gets the "im flying high DEFYING gravity", nor does she have much of a second "bring me down".

  • @AVIfinatic lol you obviously never saw her live. To say she sung the song 'well' is the biggest understatement ever.

  • @idinafanboi Let's be honest... she ruins the final part of this song at almost every recording.... But that's really not her fault, the song is so heavenly high...

  • @TLKthing3 "almost every recording" That's exactly your problem! You judge and base your opinions of Idina on crappy youtube recordings when her voice doesn't really record that well (in tone or in power). I can't tell you how many people I have told this to over the past 8 years but you CANNOT judge Idina unless you saw her live (and I can pretty much 100% gaurantee you never based on what you're saying). I saw her live and she left me speechless: /watch?v=ar1gDDrBZ_U

  • @idinafanboi Really... if notes are not sung clear, they're not sung clear... Live of recorded... doesn't matter that much. It's true that the live experience makes a performance better... at that moment, but Idina's problem in the recording's go further than just tone and power.

  • @TLKthing3 Clarity cannot be judged off recordings. Trust me, you don't understand unless you've seen her live.

  • she was good on b'way, but terrible in london - she was just so hit and miss with the notes in all of the songs... especially dg. its a shame, but i think maybe she shouldnt have done london...

  • @greengoblin200 Is this a joke? Her voice was SO much more powerful in London than on Broadway! Did you even see her live? I'm guessing not...

  • it says your site doesnt exist?

  • If the quality was better, this would be fantastic!!! ;)
