  • What a fucking stupid place to have a pole vault set up!! Jesus!

  • If I broke 5:00 I would shit my pants! Roger Bannister would be proud

  • god if i just had a 2:00 800 i would be happy...amazing

  • Man, maybe he could've broken 4 if it weren't for the shove at the beginning and the pole almost hitting him.

  • I hate how he makes it look like i could do it

  • Comment removed

  • I say that the elbow at the beggining held back german at the 4 minute mile i say if it wouldnt have happened he would have broke 4

  • One word:

    Verzbicas

  • @DaSanyyy Another word, similar but contrary to yours: Oshier.

  • @bigjoshscherer Oshier is slower than Verzbicas buddy?

  • Ummm Josh... a mile is 1607 meters. You may want to get your facts straight before posting like that.

  • @dafutbawl nope. A mile = 1,609.344 meters . Theres a good search engine on the internet that you can use to learn stuff like this. I forget the name but I think it starts with a G and ends with oogle. Good job making yourself look like a retard.

  • @dafutbawl IT'S 1609.344 YOU DUMB @&*^

  • thats crazy fast his 800 time was faster than mine and he was running the mile and i run the 800.

  • Pretty sure that everyone running behind him PR'ed that day because they didn't want to get passed by him.

  • .29 seconds from being the 6th high schooler to ever run a sub 4 mile. its an amazing feat all its own to have run a 4 min mile, but how much must he hate that?

  • @wookiegamemaster well this is a 1600 not a mile. A mile is 1609 meters. So this converts to a high 4:01 mile. Also only 4 high school runners have broken 4 in the mile, not 5.

  • @wookiegamemaster couldn't he have done it next race?

  • @wookiegamemaster I don't think he cares since he has run faster since.

  • Its amazing how he pushed himself to run like that. I usually need someone there. Id never keep up with him though.

  • oh man. he's so damn efficient in his stride. Thats crazy.

But seriously, there were a lot of factors that could have not let him break 4. Like the pole from the pole vault. and he didn't hug the turns. he's in the middle of them, that might have made a difference. No one pushed him.

idk. it was still an amazing race, and a crazy attempt. German is the man, I hope he makes it in the 1500 for the olympics next year.

  • i could do this in my sleep,

    thats called dreaming.

  • that pole costed him that millisecond that could have gotten him that 3:59 he wanted

  • @AlbertoVilla93 Juan Gonzalez. Remember that name. I assure you he'll be a beast.

  • Any one else notice the pole that almost ended his run at 1:55?

  • incredible performance though the dude at 3:58 sounds like he's having an orgasm

  • HAHA. I wonder what that guy in the first lap was thinking. Actually trying to keep up with him, yeah right.

  • Just awesome

  • i would've been so pissed haha

  • kim possible @0:18

  • Wonder wat the guy trying to keep up wit him is thinking

  • @ABOUT258dirtybeaners its mac fleet who's running at oregon now so he was good but not german good

  • I'm looking at the other comments, and yes, this is most likely the 1600M run, not the Mile run. The Mile run is actually 1609.344 meters exactly. Since you are running a meter every .15 seconds (this is 4 minute mile pace), multiply .15 by 9.344 and you have about 1.4. Add a tenth of a second because he has to travel 9.344 meters than usual, and his actual "Mile" time comes out too 4:01.69. This means that even if he gotten 3:59.9, he wouldn't have broken the 4 minute mile.

  • @Chocosizzles wtf.

  • @Chocosizzles Besides the fact that is says "1600m" in the title, yes, this is most likely the 1600m and not a full mile.

  • @drone713 Well, everyone is yammering about how he didn't go under the 4 minute mile, so I thought some clarification was in order.

  • really? he couldn't go .30 seconds faster?

  • the extra nine meters take roughly ~1.7 seconds. His mile time would have been roughly 4:01.9 mile. If you count conversions it still would be almost 2 seconds off

  • n mile. That pole didn't slow him down 2 seconds. Also even if he did run a 3:58.29 that still wouldn't make him the fifth HS miler, since it was a 1600 race

  • man. we need more mexicans like this that give us a good name.

  • Absolutely outstanding! kinda makes you wonder, was he running full out or was he conserving for the 3200?

  • that damn polevaulter at 1:54 could have messed up the chance of there being 5 highschool runners under 4 minutes

  • @andyforthemaster this is like the twelth time ive watched this video and i just noticed that XD. its hysterical but your right he could/\'ve gotten seriously hurt.

  • @andyforthemaster going under 4 for a 1600 isn't the same as a sub 4 min mile. There are plenty of high schoolers who have had mile splits that were sub 4 mins for their 1600 split.

  • @JoshMcRay I want you to name three. I think if someone ran a sub 4 for a 1600 they could have the motivation and train slightly harder to run an extra 9 meters in that time. They also have this magical thing called conversions where they can see if they would have broken 4 if it was a whole mile.

  • it's actually 1609.344

  • Alan Webb ran under a 3:55 in the High School mile.

  • :18 ... Kim Possible..?

  • With all due respect, even if he had gone under 4, (say 3:59.5), thats still not a 4 minute mile. A full mile is 1609 meters, which adds about a second or so. Still though, he has accomplished the sub-4 minute mile in events after this one.

  • reasons why he didnt break 4 here:

first was the pole vaulting pole nearly brained him

second was he had to run EVERY lap by himself and keep his own rythem

third and most importantly was he leaned back towards the end of the race, he started doing so around 450 to go, it actually does make a significant difference. he also holds his head at a slight angle while running which has that lean back/braking effect that slowed him down. GOD, i wish he broke 4 here =( still a fantatsic race tho =)

  • @ap1234512 also, in the back of his mind, he had to run the 3200 in a couple of hours

  • and to think it was almost ended by a pole-vault pole...

  • actually, i wonder if he would of broke 4 min if that pole hadn't almost hit him. when it comes toward him he ducks his head and makes a weird stride. could've cost a second right there! why do they put the PV pits so close to the track anyways.

  • i love hearing how every lap the crowd gets louder and louder

  • This guy didn't even run until freshman year. Soccer loose is running gain. Seems to get energy from the track. Geb had that same style . Same with seb Coe and Mary Decker. Just a hunch but I think he will be first American under 12:50 at 5 k

  • And not only is he a fantastic runner and my inspiration, but does anybody else notice how silky smooth his uniform looks?

  • Alan Webb had college and pro rabbits to pace him.. German had to do it all by himself. With his high school competition

  • this kid better go to the olympics

  • so basically german fernandez is the greatest distance runner in the history of california high schools. nuff said.

  • lol and the classic colapse at the end

  • ha ha did anyone else noticed he bout got hit by a pole at 1:55

  • i get tired just watching it

  • Nobody's as smooth as he is!

  • wat was his 800 time??

  • What?! the rest of those other dude are extra beast too! they all came in under at least 4:15!

  • i would be excited but very pissed at the same time i mean who wants to be .30 seconds away from getting a 3:59.99 in your last high school race

  • Two words: holy.....shit.

Btw nice ringtone I like it

  • nigga i beat this bitch german fernondeez errday all day, i smash da mile wit a time of 3 minutes and 39. im from a small town in egypt, i chase lions up da fuckin pyramids and i catch them, then i gut their ass with my bare hands and eat their intestines wit my buttcrack hole. I HAVE 4 EYES

  • mamowolde u can actually tell what hes wearing dam u beast at details

  • what spikes did german wear?

  • The Nike Ventulus..a spike with four pins only.

  • notice at 1:56 that German ducked to avoid getting hit by a falling pole vault bar - nice reflexes.

  • Omg what a beast... mad props to this guy.

  • i spoke with german personally and the guy is just a work horse. he said that he does about 500-1000 lunges everyday, at least 500 push ups...some of his workouts are crazy but for the most part he runs normal mileage fast, like 6-8mi at high 4s. at oklahoma he's hitting higher mileages but when he was still at riverbank he just did lots of extra stuff other people wouldn't do. i got to run with him and the guy just sleeps at anything slower than 5:30 pace -_-

  • No, trust me.. The time is right. You can see it at the end on the time if you put it in HQ.

Plus, the kid as a freshman, won the NCAA's. Trust me, this kid is legit. 3:36 or 8 was his time for 1500.

  • he finished at like 4:04 on the video length

    wow...

  • yea bc in the beginning, the race started at 0:04

  • are seriously that stupid!?

  • no hes fucking crazy

  • @23formikeonly first, your a dumbass.

second, he finishes at 4:03 in the video. and the video starts about 3 seconds too fast. so his real time was 4:00.29. just look at the timer by the finish line.

  • Amazing, especially with his distance speed. NY has Alex Hatz who did 4:06 in the 1600m this year as a Junior but no one is close to that 3200 time!

  • im a flash with your mom....oooooo

  • my xc coach used to coach for his high school when german was a freshman. he said he's not normal; he's like some alien or something. lol

  • we had a guy go 4:05 and 8:51 this year, but that doesn't even touch German

  • he actually got 4:21 his first year

  • Now, I know he's not complaining since he had an amazing day, but you know he wished he was under 4.

  • @GetBackJack123 thats why alan webb is the best

  • @frostie1315 Well, Alan had a great time, but there's a difference. German had to run completely by himself and had the 3200 as well; Webb was in a pro field. Webb still amazing HS time, though..German too.

  • wow these people are amazing! they have a really good running form and really good strides!

  • that time sucks for a 7th grader btw so you have no right posting shit

  • can he get sub 4 yet?

  • He's broken four twice already as a college freshman. He actually set an indoor collegiate record for the mile in 3:56, then later went on to break his own record a couple weeks later in 3:55. And that's after coming back from an achille's heel injury. He also did not have any speed work. Gonna be crazy to see what he does for the outdoor season.

  • dang, i bet hes gonna break the world record someday.

  • Comment removed

  • wow great run!

  • Olympics much????

  • German ur a beast

  • why are people posting their crappy ass times, instead of writing props to german?

  • Comment removed

  • wow did you shower with her an live with her. Nobody cares about that cock, only fernandez

  • holy SHIT this guy would lap me!

  • dhu

  • okay and what do you want?

  • He runs his 400m splits faster than I can run my 400m race

  • anyone know when he is slated to run next? someone should post the recent indoor race with his blazing 3:55.02 clocking.

  • Comment removed

  • really powerful stride, no flailing, just bounce. doesn;t even look like he;s going fast!

  • honestly i ran 4:28 my fastest and proud of it.

  • wow, talk about just blowing away the competition, we have some of the fastest runners in virginia in my high school but they would get blown away by him. they have his 3:56 mile on flotrack now

  • what's your name

  • what did the flotrack guys say to u?

  • this guy is really fast, my fastest time is 4:35 damn 35 seconds slower thats a lot its like half a lap

  • thats fucking crazy. i can run a 4:57 but this kid is amazing

  • definately lying.

  • You're lying :/

  • holy shit this guy must be related to Steve Prefontaine somehow

  • He looks so relaxed and in control. I plan on being 30 seconds behind him by the end of this year.

  • Wow, he left the other guys like 20 secs behind.

  • Notice the pole vault rode around 1:55.

  • rod*

  • good vid, i have same one up w/ better angles and quailtiy but i like how yours has the crowd noise, i couldnt get audio on mine. goood job

  • at :18 is that like the kimpossible ringtone?

  • oo one of the parents told me about someone who ran a four minute flat mile last track season..i know this is him..so amazing :]

  • Did anyone notice how he slowed down a bit when he came back around the pole vault area? I would have nightmares if I almost got hit by one.

  • shit son i would WISH i was like this dood i wanna be that fast haha my pr is 5:14 :o ahh haha

  • dang, mine in march was 5:14 at a meet. haha. crazy!

  • ive got his autograph and im pretty stoked about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • was this the first or second part to his double?

  • 1st

  • your jealous getupandtryagain

  • tell me one thing i said that made me look jealous.

  • idk my bad, at the time it looked like you were bashing him for it being 9 meters short but i guess you werent after i read it again...sorry.

  • There have only been a few high school runners to run under 4 minutes for the mile.

some people say that if that pole vault hadn't almost hit him, he would have gotten a sub-4.

what those people don't realize is that 1600m is not a mile (it's 1609. the 1600m and the mile are separate races, too.) so he would have to run 9 more meters, which would probably be about 1-2 seconds slower than what he ran for the 1600.

who knows? maybe he would have achieved it anyway.

  • orlly?

  • nonotrlylul

  • kewl

  • i've seen this guy live! i've been to an actual meet against this guy, he's unbelievable!

  • i like how the camera guy is all up in his face after he's crashed

  • OMG German! your so fast. Great job! never stop running.I hope to see you this month at the Wharf to Wharf race in S.C.. I need your autograph!!!

  • i agree with you on the first part i would be angry too, but i dont think he slowed down he went balls to the walls for the 1550 meters b4 that

he was real tired, but still a true runner

  • nathan 61972 your an idiot theyre the same

  • 2 mile is actually 3218.64 meters.... that's why on an al weather track there is a different line they start from when running the 2 mile vs the 3200

  • No theyre not the same, check your facts.

  • he smashed the 3200 record but at nationals he broke the 2 mile record they're different

  • can someone please explain to me about his double. it says 2 1/2 hours later he smashed the national 3200 record. i thought he did that in north carolina at nationals, and isn't this the California state meet? this kid's special, so i believe that he did it. i'm just confused so if anyone could explain that to me i'd be grateful.

  • wish i was that fast this dude is a beast

  • Well the world record is 3:43.13 so he has some work to do.

  • and hes got 4 years to do it

  • at 1:55 he almost got hit in the head with a pole vault pole...it looked like he tried to dodge it a lil bit, that coulda meant .3 seconds

  • You, really think it affected him at all? He probably didn't even notice it.

  • He is so insane hope he does good at the nike outdoor nationals. NON.

  • If only he went .3 faster.

  • fuckin gifted to the max!!

  • Ya I agree that's probably the greatest double ever. That dude is inspiring. I hope he's not taking any drugs. He's made a pretty suspicious improvement since last year.
