What I did was... Program Files> GIMP-2.0> share> gimp> 2.0> brushes> pasted my downloaded brushes there and reset GIMP. And it worked.. :)

I'm not sure what happened... I downloaded a set of brushes, then all the original brushes disappeared... I'm not sure what happened. I can still find the folder containing the original brushes.

the original set dissapeared because you did not create a new slot for your brushes, you can relocate them easily by looking at the location of your other files, they should be around there as well
