Rusty and Jerome got such a huge Pop! This is Satire folks. It was Great to see the Friendly Giant Puppets again. I could see it being wrong for kids to see it. But as an Adult its just funny and it's cool to see what some old friends are up to these days. We miss all the great characters from our youth.
Bob ( The Friendly Giant ) Homme's family was so pissed off about this sketch they removed Rusty and Jerome from the Growing Up Canadian Museum at the CBC.
They felt this was disrespectful to the memory of their father and his creations.
anyone who owns the rights or whatever are OLD and therefore old-fashioned. If they have a problem with this it is because they are old and old fashioned. Get with the times!
This was hilarious!
I grew up with all those shows and I had no idea the puppets still existed... as far as I was concerned, they were recycled into kitchen gloves! This skit was great;there should be more.
On another note, Camilla Scott is still hot! looking

Here is an idea, stop wasting time and energy on a puppet skit and direct it to something like poverty or our health care system. People are so fucked up!
Kind of interesting how that girl puppet wants to give that man puppet fellatio. A funny and disturbed skit. I can understand why the Friendly Giant family was a "bit" upset. It's silly, immature fun.
My puppet Clairence is wanting to see more puppets here on Youtube. I do mostly marionettes myself. But I have a long history and love of hand puppetry.
This is just the latest in a very long list of massive screw-ups by the CBC since its inception. It lost brilliant creative people to the USA because it dragged its feet on renewing their contracts. It ran roughshod over other contractual agreements with other creative people. It's almost as big a national joke as Canada Post.
This skit wasn't remotely offensive. It also wasn't funny. Do people actually think this is hilarious? Makes you kind of wish for a writers' strike in Canada.
You know the scene where the one puppet starts going down on the other puppet? The CBC should star them in a new TV show for kids: The Little Cocksucker on the Prairie!
As an almost 30 Canadian and an avid watcher of over the top humor, I can say that I found this skit very funny. I laughed. My roommate laughed. My sister laughed. My girlfriend sat in silent horror.
However, the problem is the CBC agreed to notify the family before doing anything with the puppets. And the family's permission was needed. This obviously was against their wishes. So while I found it funny. I agree with the family.
THIS is the cause of all the fuss??? This is tame and lame!!! The real joke is the reaction of the Homme family and the all press this has generated. Only in Canada eh?
I understand where you are coming from, however perhaps the Homme family see's there Grandfather as creating something wholesome, It was his lifes work, and it was used as a joke. I have a pretty good sense of humour, however I can understand why the family would object. Call me crazy but "The Friendly Giant" has become a Canadian Icon, and I can see why Canadians don't want it made fun of, after all, the CBC is run with our tax dollars.
It's very simple: The CBC had a contractual obligation to get authorization from the Homme family for any use of the puppets, other than displaying them in the CBC Museum. The CBC failed to do this; therefore it breached the contract, and the Homme family was within its rights to seize the puppets.
I understand it's just a joke, however it makes me kinda sad to see these puppets used in the skit. I suppose it's because it was an important part of my childhood. CBC was actually suppose to get permission from the Homme Family, and never did. I think the CBC should be issuing a bit of an apology to the family over this one, not to mention all of us kids in the 70's and 80's that watched The Friendly Giant.
Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing as I watched this. The concept wasn't explored very creatively (example: the smoking and sex reference) and the appeal at the end also wasn't funny. Interesting idea, poorly executed.
I don't get the big deal in the globe. It's funny and it is a little daring. Canada needs to catch up to the rest of the world with tv. Wouldn't it be funny if CBC led the way?

How can that, in any possible way, seem offensive?
Someone is making a muppet out of a molehill.
Oops, make that a mountain out of a molehill.

The Friendly Giant should returned to the air as a way for the CBC to repair the damage it has caused with this offensive and embarrassing travesty.

It wasn't EVEN funny. I'd be more offended by how lame the skit was because of how unfunny it was. It just wasn't funny.
