  • There are several solutions to this. 1) Don't require the customer to refill the tank and just charge them the going rate (local average). 2) There are devices that can be placed into the tank to test the fuel , use those on return before completing the return process. 3) install lock covers on all fuel access points on all the trucks when they are parked only to be removed when the truck is rented.

  • more like gas stations add water, most are only inspected once a year. its a big inside secret

  • @cbr6864 That's very unlikely to happen as they will be caught pretty quick when a bunch of cars that just filled up there stop running. Gas and water will not mix, you can't "water" gas or diesel down. And you won't go far with water in the tank.

  • @ffjsb not really next time you are at the gas station look at the inspection sticker some states are only inspected every two years

  • @cbr6864 Evidently you don't know most gas stations check their tank daily if not weekly for water and to make sure the gallonage is correct so they can detect if there is any leakage from the tanks. Gas stations are liable for repairs and towing if they have water in the tanks, which can quickly mount up to tens of thousands. Gas leaking out can easily mount up to Hundreds of thousands. Insurance requires it. The stickers are for the accuracy of the pumps, not the tanks.

  • People suck

  • wow our gas never got that high in houston

  • @aelli614 Houston's a refinery town. It gets progressively more expensive the farther from the gulf coast you go.

  • Even when you refill a Uhaul, they charge you $8.00 per gallon for refilling the tank. PAYBACK IS A BITCH, ISN'T IT, UHAUL!

  • @CatholicPriest1945

Look UHaul up, they have a horrible track record all over. They'll knowingly send out an unfit truck for a one way move. Most often the dealer won't care because they'll never see that truck again.

  • lol. Fuck you UHaul. Payback's a bitch ain't it?

  • cant you just do an oil change and get the water out?

  • @ThomasXp like siphon out?

  • @ThomasXp It depends on how much damage there is. If the truck were idling, then yea, it could get away with just a tank dump and oil replacement. If the rpms were up, the block could be cracked or the piston rods or valves were bent which would require the whole engine be either replaced or rebuilt. It may not cost $2000, but it is expensive non-the-less.

  • GOOD IDEA!!

  • They could install a tap on the lower part of the tank, and drop a bit of fuel out when they receive it back...

  • @compactc9 when like 10 years ago because uhaul dont have them anymore buddy

  • All I can say about this is that some people are complete sleaze bags.

  • i never would have thought about putting water in a tank until i saw this story.

  • All uhauls are gass

  • @MrDeontaec I've been in a Diesel U Haul.

  • @compactc9 when like 10 years ago they don't have them anymore buck.

  • I own a towing company and i applaud this behavior as it helps my fellow towers on the wst coast keep busy.

  • way to go uhaul renters

  • fuck uhaul

  • sometimes they deserved it coz they're a rip off. .i rented a 17 footer for and used it for 2hr with 10 miles and the charge is $85.00, should've rented the Budget truck instead..

  • @Jecoholic03 85 dollars is a rip off?? you dont think they have expenses? When you factor in the cost of the trucks, maintenance, employee wages, rent, insurance, utilities, etc...and on top of all that, they have to make a profit. You still think 85 bucks is expensive?

  • good job tell everyone

  • The news just gave more people the idea to do something like this

  • soooooo, get a pickup truck???? then you won't need a uhaul

  • @MDizzel16

...or buy your own damn U-HAUL truck, if you move a lot of "boxes" frequently....or a big van.

  • U-Haul are a bunch of scammers themselves.. IM glad they are finally getting it back!

  • ABUSE-HAUL

  • @SeberHusky I always call them for JEW HAUL

  • @siemenstraffic

    Maybe if you're a terrorist...lol

  • Should top them off with bleach in my opinion. U-haul really rips people off. They're a dishonest company, therefore deserves dishonest customers.

  • "UP TO $2,000 - minimum." Well, which is it?

  • loooooooooooool

    Id do the same haha

  • WHERE THE HELL WAS IT $4? the worst I seen it get was $3.25 around washington. Those must be the california averages sence we seem to care more about them.

  • @mageac ever heard of liquid lock?

  • @ghtthg1221 that can happen, but its not going to actually hurt anything unless the engine is already running, and enough is sucked in to fill the combustion area...the starter wont have enough torque to bend/break anything usually...

it wont run no, but very rarely will cause catastrophic failure.

  • @mageac Uhaul is so crooked, they never reimburse you for repairs you have to make on their trucks just to haul your stuff, and they want their customers to be honest!

  • All you have to do is bring the receipt at the time of you returning the rental. Very SIMPLE and Effective reimbursement system.

  • @1AndOnlyGreenFairy @1AndOnlyGreenFairy You must be from the wizard of oz living in a fantasy world. Uhaul corruption is ALL over the internet, they are a complete ripoff, wakeup. Just follow the yellow brick road. See ripoffreportdot

    com

  • @Gaspipenicklioni So, what you're saying is the actions of a few morons are the representation of an entire Community or Business. Also how would you know that every entry is 100% truth I am witness to these incidents almost daily and I can assure you in clear conscience that we are as Americans maybe even all mankind overly dramatic and self preserving. A quality that enables us to walk up to a complete stranger and declare the dangers endured all the while personal bills are piling as are lies

  • @Gaspipenicklioni The Wizard of OZ BTW was not only a childrens story but a way of simplifying the the truth to children of a path to greed that is why the original shoes are silver. So let us stop playing pretend. If you want to change anything... You're not going to get anywhere crying about it and being a blog gangster but rather use a more effective strategy of change. Just as they do. Change the law according to the manner in which you choose to live. But don't follow the same road Dorothy.

  • @ghtthg1221

I think what you mean is hydra lock. The fact liquid is more compressable than air just means the con rods will bend or snap. BUT this is only after alot of driving around while having water in the combustion chamber. Saying that, performance cars actually use water injection to cool down and atmoize fuel and air better. It's used to raise compression.

Filling a fuel tank up with water, then turning it on and realisng and turning it off agan will not destory an engine. Cost alot

  • @Bubbajomama ... no i mean an injection pump... they are actually pretty simple once you do a couple... now... modern eui injecters are something completly unserviceable...

at our shop injection pumps and turbo rebuilds are everyday jobs...

  • id charge them 2 grand too...screw up my tank...

  • I hate scammers

  • Get ready for round two except when the price goes up this time it will not go back down. Oil companies are loosing the battle they are getting where they can't keep up with demand. Sure right now we have so many people out of work the price is falling but did you look as the PPB $74 that is in a depression what is gonna happen when we gain some momnetum in the economy $6 a gallon. Get ready folks your bike is about to get some miles.

  • OMG Kim Merow.... I worked with her at 700 company when she was a TCM... That was a shock to see her...lol

  • is that george clooney

  • "we kinda shake our shoulders" what the hell does that mean.

  • god dammit i thought som1 was gunna crooked GRIND on the truck

  • "water in the gas tank conventionally brings the truck to a sputtering stop." every fucking u-haul truck comes to a sputtering stop. if i rented a death trap of a truck with 250k miles on it, i'd ruin the engine in revenge too!

  • @amargolis21 It's sad that people as you actually exist in today's world. Very sad.

  • Man, look at these old ass trucks. No wonder people are putting everything but gas in the tanks.

  • 14 years at uhaul? thats the most shocking comment in the video.

  • I'd put 2storke oil in, like my neighbors car, it runs PERFECT!!! lol

  • Upwards of $2000 minimum BAHAHAHAHAHAHA What!?

  • I know, right? What does that mean. That's like saying, This plane is going to fly upwards of 30,000 feet minimum. hahaha.

  • Goddamn! I shouldn't bitch about $3 gas prices.

  • @YungShawtyCLT Try living in the UK, we pay the equivalent of $9 per gallon. It's all to do with oil companies promising shareholders huge profits - they just keep pushing the price up to meet the forecasts. Once diesel was half the price of petrol, now there are more diesel cars it is an excellent way to make money. Diesel in the UK is approx $10 per gallon now, it costs more than petrol! Protests of refinaries in the UK never worked either, all that was tried years ago.

  • Shit, if I had to pay £5.58 for gas, I'll ride on the bus (more than I do already).

  • Trouble with Uhaul trucks is some of them are so damn old. I think the rental fees should be prorated for older trucks. I got a rental that had 250,000 miles on it once. No discount. When was the last time you rented a car with 250,000 miles on it?

  • That's why older trucks are discounted to $19.95 in-town (a new 14 footer rents for $29.95 in-town...an old one for $19.95 in-town)

Trust me there is a discount on older trucks...I work at a U-Haul dealer. Older trucks are relegated to in-town moves only.

  • @gears2boomshield if its the older chevy trucks then its fine if u get one of the fords with over 100,000 miles your in trouble and should get a discount for being stranded all the time

  • @gears2boomshield YEA i rented a uhaul with 197,000 and i thought that was insaine for a rental hauler but 250,000 go figure cheap basterds do not want to dish out cash for something newer and more gas efficient with less miles!

  • thats what uhaul gets, charging an arm and leg when you bring the truck back unfilled...i laugh...HA HA HA

  • Wow, That girl is retarded.

Upwards of up to 2000 minimum.

    Shaking sholders

  • Lmao!

  • "...upwards of up to $2000.00, minimum."

Did anyone else hear that. That doesn't even begin to make sense.

  • i heard it, it doesn't make sense.

she also said something like like "... we shake our shoulders at this" or something.

shaking your shoulders? hahahaha shes drunk.

  • they have to flush the entire system out then repair any damage that occured...so with parts and labor that comes to around 2000

  • @arncoic89 Does it hell! A fuel filter is very inexpensive, then all that is required is a fuel line flush by emptying the tank and pumping petrol through - nothing more. Scammers who run a garage are probably doing this to get business.

  • @urbex2007 THE PROBLEM IS WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE RUINED FUEL, PUMPING OUT THE BAD GAS IS FAIRLY EASY, BUT THE EPA HAS VERY STRINGENT RULES AS HOW YOU DISPOSE OF TAINTED FUEL LIKE PUT IN A BARRELL AND SHIP TO A RECLAIMATION CENTER, WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE

  • @DrMotorDude haha thats why she works at uhaul haha

  • @DrMotorDude OMG i was just gonna comment on the same thing lol what a stupid woman....no wonder they are getting ripped off.

  • @DrMotorDude I heard it

  • @DrMotorDude I know i was gonna say good guess NOT!

  • @DrMotorDude yea it does. think about it. getting water out of a diesel engine is no easy or cheap task

  • @AdmiralKakarot No it doesn't. Think about this....The two phrases "Upwards of" and "Up to" are mutually exclusive IE: they are opposites. Lemmey break it down..."upwards of...." = at least this much and more. "Up to...." = no more than this much.

  • @DrMotorDude ah okay. point taken

  • @DrMotorDude Time to invest in some HEET!

  • @DrMotorDude watch your mouth. she's a uhaul veteran. of 14 years..

  • @Luscioustress That and $7.50 will get her a cup of designer Starbucks.

  • What a joke. $2000 dollars to fix, really? sounds like u-haul needs to invest in some better mechanics. Someone did this to my wifes car and it didn't cost me anything but a tank of gas and 1 hour.

  • enough water in the cylinder can make some serious shit happen. water doesn't compress like gas an air so it can bend a rod.

  • Nope. i have had water in my gas before. The engine quits running way before hydro lock... Took me 20 minutes and a tank of gas to fix... Trust me, I know...

  • it depends on the car then because i know a friends that sucked water down his intake manifold ant it bent a rod. that's why they put intake snorkels off road cars

  • Water in the fuel and water in the air intake are two entirely different things... Go ask your friend as I know this from experience...

  • i hate when people do shit like this. those trucks would run for 1/2 mile before they sputter and die. It actually costs at least $2000 to fix them afterwards. Someone put 4 gallons of water in the tanks of two of my cars. The minivan cost $2500 and my convertible cost $2000 to fix. And this doesn't include the tow truck service. Both cars were off the road for 5 days. All of this would have cost much more if i had had to rent a car. But i have two other cars so...

  • they should've messed about with the sensors lol

  • just cut the 2 sensor wires and tape them together lol.

  • broken trucks/vans at 1:30

  • they deserve it. How many people killed because of these trucks is nothing equivalent to the money needed to repair these things.

  • uhaul is worse than pol pot, they have killed millions of innocent people

  • even injecting water. It wont hydralock. Just wont burn it.. poot out the exaust. 2000 dollars to fix.. yeah nice. Just drain the tank purge the fuel line. Crank till it starts running on fuel. Injecting water doesnt do anything. Remember we used to run on steam power!. Also I have a water injection kit on my truck and it gives me better fuel economy and cooler combustion temperatures. 2000 bucks.. crappy injectors if you ask me.

  • This could be dealer charges. Though, a lot of times when vandalism occurs the authorities liberally overestimate the damages so that the vandal can be prosecuted with beefed up charges.

  • Yikes that would never occur to me. Hydrolocked pistons anyone?
