Ok it is great to know this is a good part of history but if you read a book about Hank's life you will see that even Hank himself didn't like Audrey's singing. The music is great the voice is bad. Also Hank dranked cause of her,as soon as Hank raked in money she went out speading it.She drove Hank crazy and listening to her voice I'd say she would drive anybody crazy.I don't normaly say this about old country music me being a fan but I feel I had to talk about Audry. But Hank is #1.
ok, so she hit a few bad notes, so what. she has the basic melody & the feeling is there & the fact this was sung 50-60 years ago is a miracle to be respected. besides this is real acoustic music & it's live & not studio enhanced with gimmicks. thanks for posting it.
Listening to Audrey is a pleasure, we are hearing history, as it was being broadcast live, I'm glad these recordings have survived. There is way too much "perfection" nowadays. Great job by Rivers, Watts, Pruett, Helms.
au contraire ! This is far away the best rendition I have ever heard of The Bonoparte's Retreat. The tempo is perfect. It is almost always played too fast. The droning on the instrumental is really wonderful. Audrey's off key singing complements it and makes it my favorite. It is fantastic! Every other rendition is white bread. I love to sing along with her. I have been starting each day listening to her. This makes me want to pick up the guitar again after 30+ years away from it. Listen Folks!
Hank must have really loved her to let her sing at all, God she's awful. No sense of tone or rhythm at all. No wonder Bocephus had to finally part professional ways with her, she didn't have a clue.
Of course, she was well known in the circle that she needed serious work, but noone had the nerve to tell her. Thanks for posting this- I've never heard this! Anything new from Hank is a great day for me.

Jerry Rivers' fiddling, Hank Williams voice come from God; Audrey's voice comes from beelzebub.

Left Audrey alone as she had to suffer on this earth by the actions o fher son. Now she and Hank are in The Big House Up Above.
