An exercise is an exercise. If it isn't doing anything then you're either doing it incorrectly or you aren't using enough weight. As for the "i've been doing it for 2 years" idiot, YOU'VE hit a plateau. You're supposed to switch up your exercises every few weeks, or your muscles will grow too accustomed to them and they'll stop having an effect.
