When I came out to my mom, I was border-line suicidal. I spent my free time wondering how I should kill myself. My mother sent me to a therapist, and ordered her to cure me. And yes, she did cure me, just not the way my mom wanted. My depression completely stopped as a result of our sessions. She helped me more than I could ever have hoped. Homosexuality is not a sin, it's a man-made law that was put into the bible. Also, if work on Sunday, you are a sinner... yep true story.

My parents were more supportive, and I tried to share that with him when we started dating! When I came out to my mom, I was border-line suicidal. I spent my free time wondering how I should kill myself. My mother sent me to a therapist, and ordered her to cure me. And yes, she did cure me, just not the way my mom wanted. My depression completely stopped as a result of our sessions. She helped me more than I could ever have hoped. Homosexuality is not a sin, it's a man-made law that was put into the bible. Also, if work on Sunday, you are a sinner... yep true story.

I don't know what's wrong or right anymore, and/or what is a sin and what isn't. All I know is that gay people have no control over being gay. I believe they're born that way the same way heterosexuals are born the way they are. Religion will never change or eliminate a person's homosexuality, it will only enable them to suppress it. And suppressing your sexuality is probably one of the most unhealthy things a person can do. Sinful or not, people must be allowed to be what they really are.

I will also be forever grateful to my mother (and the rest of my immediate family) for not raising me in an intensely religious / conservative environment.
So I have never had to go through the self-loathing (fear of hell) phase!
