The episode in Alabama really made me ashamed to be an American. I love my country, I love our cars, I love racing (including NASCAR,) and I love Top Gear U.K. I thought what the guys did was absolutely hilarious. But seeing my countrymen act like that just made me feel really sad honestly. Now, I'm not from the south, but I've been there many times and love it actually. Im american and I watched one episode of top gear usa's first season. It was one of the worst shows id ever seen. I wish theyd just show the british show here closer to when they are shown in britain for the first time. I am constantly watching the reruns of top gear (british one) on netflix. It rocks. My only fear for them was with the slogan writing on the cars in alabama during the us trip lol (Due to the offensive slogans I actually legitimately feared theyd get killed).
When I watched that episode, I thought they'd get people looking at them funny and maybe get shouted at a bit... But I was genuinely surprised by the reaction they got. I thought the North/South divide in opinions was highly overblown by other media...

I'm from Alabama. I go to one of the best highschools in the entire country. My dad has an Audi. I've been watching top gear since the Winter Olympics Special. @blanchimonts It's a long running joke, they had schumacher on the show a while back in one episode declaring him as the stig to stop spreading rumours about who the stig was, but of course he's never been the stig.
@scauma they haven't revealed the stig yet. After they killed off the black stig it was years later revealed to be Perry McCarthy. They had Michael Schumacher be the stig for one episode only, which was the reveal you saw. But that was a one episode only deal. We don't know who the stig is now.

@CaptainAmerica322 American, actually. The original Top Gear is most definitely vastly superior to any other Top Gear. However, when compared to the U.S. Top Gear, the Australian Top Gear is leaps and bounds better, even if it does fall well short of the UK Top Gear.

I love TG. The reason a show like that would never work in the US (completely) is because everyone is afraid of offending someone else. The US has become so "PC freaked out" that it is truly sickening.

@blanchimonts It's a long running joke, they had schumacher on the show a while back in one episode declaring him as the stig to stop spreading rumours about who the stig was, but of course he's never been the stig.

@scauma they haven't revealed the stig yet. After they killed off the black stig it was years later revealed to be Perry McCarthy. They had Michael Schumacher be the stig for one episode only, which was the reveal you saw. But that was a one episode only deal. We don't know who the stig is now.
