I work in Sainsburys. Stealing isn't stealing until you're outside the doors. Maybe this situation was a bit more...........extreme.

@ryanhitmanfury The intent to deprive of goods is classed as stealing, whether or not you're out the doors out not.

@Novelladelleda You have to leave the store to show that you have the intention (aka 'mens rea') to 'permanently deprive' . Theft Act 1968 section 1 & section 11.

@1starshot Yes you do to " show " it, but if the mens rea ( aka intent ) can be shown/proven before leaving, it's still classed as stealing.
@1starshot Also, I've seen and known some people get 'caught' for stealing while in store, when putting things in their pocket.
