What he needed to do is apologize NOT to his fans or to those that were offended by the voicemail, but to his daughter. It is unfortunate that such a personal misstep became public, but that does not rid him of blame for it.

Don't tell your own sob story, but humble yourself to the one person who was truly affected by this incident. Do not be sorry to the public for "how things turned out." Be sorry to your daughter. You are not the victim here, Alec. She is.

@anjellenee Did you listen to what his book was about? It's not like he's pushing "Angels and Demons," he's pushing a book that emphasizes the exact point he is making in this interview.  He brings up his website for the sole basis of conveying a point, not plugging himself. Besides, how is apologizing on a TV show better than personally apologizing to your daughter, which I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that he did. Don't get me wrong though, he's probably no saint either.

I mean take an extra second to do that. I also noticed how he liked to dominate and resteer the conversation. You can see Barbara Walters trying to move things back, but he keeps redirecting. And he seems to continually put blame on Kim Basinger. He really really exemplifies his 30 Rock character.

@anjellenee Furthermore, I don't know why you're drawing comparisons to him and his 30 Rock character, who is actually portrayed as a fairly decent man with a heart who just happens to know what it takes to succeed in the business world (where hilarity often ensues). And of course he's apologizing to the public because this is his only outlet to do so. Apologizing to his daughter is something that should be and probably was done in person, and to say it to anything but her face is inappropriate.

Again, I'll say it's difficult to judge the merits of a parent based on a single incident. Divorces can get quite ugly and even the best of parents often have regrettable moments.

I don't think Alec is that bad. I do think PAS can be dangerous in cases of true abuse. It's never good for people to lose their children or be alienated for no reason. It is a worse thing for children who are abused mentally and physically to be given to their abusers. There has to be some way to protect them without victimizing innocent fathers. I think that if there is abuse then the abuser should be tried and found guilty. Then contact with the children should cease and desist.
