  • Commitment and camaraderie, certainly not positive, particularly in the context of a cult.

  • Then you should file them under "Unfamiliar Titles" because "West of Honor" and "The Mercenary" were written by Pournelle as stories taking place before "The Mote in God's Eye" and "The Gripping Hand" but occuring in the same universe since Falkenberg served in the Co-Dominium before he "resigned." "Mote" and "Gripping" he wrote with Larry Niven, creator of the Ringworld books.

  • Also, war wasn't the main focus in The Mote In God's Eye but first contact with aliens who attempted to prevent the main characters from discovering that they had the potential to produce a warrior subspecies that could devastate the human race, prompting the humans to quarantine them.

  • Did you read his John Christian Falkenberg "Mercenary" series? While war wasn't trivialized per se in these books, it was glamorized in that I could picture John Wayne or Bruce Willis playing him in a movie adaptation when I read them.
