gouken is easily one of the best put together characters imo but the biggest problem is the terribleness of his back quarter circle kick.

you should also mention the other shotoclones too. Besides, Sheng Long's aerial Hurricane Kick is better than the other shotos as you can control your direction and move across like in Hyper Fighting. Great move to attack and to escape as well.

Wrong, buddy! I use his Hurricane kick to fend off pesky jumpers and aerial opponents, and it actually does more damage than others' Dragon Punches. Gouken horizontal Shoryuken is used kind of like Sagat's Tiger Knee.

As I said, I use it just like I would like the Shoryuken from his apprentices; counter air opponents, pesky jumpers, and of course, a lot of fireballs to make them jump in. The EX Horizontal Dragon Punch is useful only near a corner, as it pops the opponent too far away to be truly effective. The Hurricane Kick's only weakness is that it cannot hit low or crouching opponentslike the others' Shoryukens, but the EX version can.

Depends on the character. I've tried it, and it's easier to hit large ducking opponents like Sagat and Balrog than it is with Chun-Li or Cammy, just to mention a few.

I also forgot that his only real weakness is his slow speed vis-a-vis the other shotoclones, which means you've got to keep more distance from your opponents than you would with his students.

counter is the same way u do a dragon punch(ryu,ken,akuma,sagat) but backwards. so if ur on the left side of the screen u press *left,down left, left, punch or kick* if u do punch u counter high, if u do kick u counter low. as for focus just press medium punch and medium kick.

Does this series need yet another Shoto-variant though? I mean looks like they just reversed the function of the dragon punch and the hurricane kick mainly with this guy. (And if he's Ryu/Ken's master then they weren't good students, they mixed up their techniques!)

He also kind of reminds me of an ape with the way he's build and moves, and that knee-to-the-face-and-slam-them­-down move. Although it think that's actually pretty cool about him.

go on easiest, set the rounds to 1, ur gonna need to have beaten arcade mode w/ akuma first. then ur gonna need to attack first 5 times, get 1 perfect round, and 3 ultra/super finishes

Without losing. Just unlocked him yesterday, He's a monster when you master his moves. Akuma is pretty damn good too. Ryu/Ken/Sakura/Akuma/Gouken all have the same basic moves with different nuances here and there (Dan too, but he's comic relief, and is the worst charcter int he game).  Even though I love them all, my only knock on the game is that there could have been more unique charcters in addition to the Gouken (since he trained them all) style fighters.
