To guitarist (guitarist singers especially). I have no clue whether this incident was real or not. I have no horse in this race of whether this was the real deal or not. What I do know is that it's as rare as winning the "anti-lottery," but it -can- happen. No rain required. Your life, your call. But for me, a little research, a little time, and with a tiny tiny amount of $, you can prevent it from happening, so I personally do.
I've been there, done that, guys. I (like this dude) fell to the ground, and my bandmates, like his, acted a little nutty -- due to no fault of their own. The drummer starting kicking my hand, the mic, to get my hand to release while others acted irrationally. Believe what you want. For guitar player singers, there's a $1 circuit you can put in that minimizes the mayhem, and I understand taylor guitars makes a circuit with a fuse "that fries instead of you." Ask Keith Richards. Be safe.
Ok Ok, I'm back to settle this debate. I was there at the concert and saw this and AT THE TIME I thought it was real. Then during Canadian music week I went to see them again at the horseshoe tavern. Anyways before they went on stage I went to the bathroom where low and behold they all were!
@co9olTechnics So after I got out I wanted to talk to Steve but I didn't know what to say. So I asked him about this and he said it was a faked to get off the stage early and please the crowd. Also they apparently got in some shit for that cause, and I quote "Apparently you can't just do that" lol Best pre concert experience ever!
It's not uncommon for a performer to get a shock when they are wearing a guitar and touch a microphone. The sound industry is notorious for bad electrical practices and it's very hard to teach a sound guy new tricks. (like electrical safety).
This wasn't a joke. Google "hot hot heat electrocuted" you will find the news articles. He suffered nerve damage. I was there and to me it looked semi-staged as well. Wierd
no seriously, he was faking it. I was one of the sound guys at this show, I know the moment he did it he was faking it. It got me worried when he did not get up right away. The storm was in fact a pretty big danger, and it started pouring buckets 10 seconds after it happened anyways.
Why would they fake it? They said they'd play one more and they were half way though the song. Why not just finish it? Even after he left the stage he was limping away.
This was in the news, dumbass.

He wasn't electrocuted. He survived. It's not the same thing.

The band's twitter is lying about the event as is the music sites that are reporting that it was real.
Anyone who is suspected of being electructed or hurt in anyway would not be dragged off the stage by one arm!

Someone is a jaded asshole. No one would fake being electrocuted to stop playing a show, they would just not show up.

It had started raining when they were playing and we could hear thunder.
You can see my hand covering the camera from rain at one point.
The security called off the show before they started playing Bandages.
See the guitarist giving a thumbs up as he is getting dragged off, it was all a gag.
