I love this song,even though it is a little exaggerated .Just after they showed the left turn switchback(near the bottom of the pass)you saw the east side snow shed getting near the summit.Oh well,love the song and love the legend.

Pretty often that wonderful smell of 'Fresh Roasted Brake Linings' wafts through the cab. If you can smell it..it's probably not your own..:>) Pagosa is a good town to own a brake shop, tow business seems to do well also. Nice little chinese restaurant in that little mall on the East end. Don't forget to enjoy those Hot Springs, soak in the pools.:>)

The original 12'9'' tunnel was on the west side of the hill. Years ago, the state blew the roof out of those tunnels, to widen, straighten out (somewhat), and add escape ramps to the roadway. The tunnel shown is new, and on the east side of the hill. It is impossable to reach Pagosa Springs coasting if one makes the switchbacks toward the bottom of the hill without losing it. I experimented with this a few years ago. Coasted to a stop a few miles from the bottom of the hill.

It looks like you were headed westerly, just like the song... I have gone over this pass many times, as with others in the rockies. Excellent job on this. I see that they are adding a tunnel on the east side. If one were to pull over at the top, and walk to the south a ways, there is a nice alpine lake with large trout in it!

My uncle survived Wolf Creek Pass back in 1989.....He lost everything from gears to brakes coming down,,,so he had to bail out the truck before it went over....He came back to Chicago looking like a mummy with all that bandage on him....He got a lot of love from the families of the non survivers of that mountain....
