  • Great version of a great song.

  • I miss this woman and her music so much . if ever there was a challenger for the talent of Joni Mitchell , Laura was that person .

  • Thank you for sharing this gem.

  • Thanks for having the Laura nyro video's

  • wow! I wish I was there. I wish I was born in the 70s or 60s.;0(

  • @neverforeverkate We oldsters from the 60's got to see and hear all the great bands. ;)

  • I saw her do this song live in NY City in the park around '77 or '78 . Blew us all away then, and me away again now. Thank you so much!

  • Isn't this from the recoding done at the Bottom Line?

If so it is indeed rare because the cd had (or perhaps still is) out of print for so long. I am lucky to have had it all these years since I bought it the day it was released.. way back when.

  • EK, thank you, Grazi, Gracias, Merci for this amazing beautiful clip of the greatest singer songwriter of my generation! I grew up with Laura and saw her many times live, what many don't understand is that she became a Mystic.....otherworldly, mysterious and magical, she transcended, a true artist the likes of which we shall probably never see again....there is a book about her life now, I hope there will be a film someday, future generations need to learn about Laura..,

  • Wow, very cool...thankxxx

  • ITS like saying, if you use WIKIPEDIA, your stealing information from people who made encyclopedias. LOL! yea, thats your arguement.

  • YOU think just because you buy cds, that makes you better then people who download it online. STUPIDASS prick attitude. BUT it only makes you a hypacrite, BECAUSE you might not download music, BUT you do other shit thats JUST the same. I GUARANTEE you do, CAUSE everyone does. Dont even try to bullshit about this.

  • You mean to tell me you listen to Daniel Janin, Bernard Purdie, The Trinkas, April orchestra, Mel brown, Placebo, Aesop Rock, Mf doom, Imortal techinque, HUNDREDS of HUNDREDS of REAL underground MUSCIANS, who DONT have a HUGE record deal, WHO WOULDVE NEVER been heard, without the internet. THATS a DAMN shame if you ask me. OVERALL INTERNET revolutionalized music, for the better. Mainstream radio music SUCKS, the real underground shit is all over the internet. for REAL music lovers.

  • IF ur heard, and your music is good, making money comes naturally.

  • the most important thing to musicians should be to be HEARD, not to make money... Thats the difference between real musicians, and stupid teeney, bopper, backstreet cyrus bullshit...

  • Thank you for bringing more of Laura's music back to the world.

  • She picked the best song on that Dr. John album.... (which was a great album too...) but you know, she could sing the phone book....

  • laura nyro is the bomb R.I.P.

  • Sweeet gem.. love Dr. John, love LN, never knew she covered this.. Thank you for sharing..

  • tis is awesome... but i cant find the dr john original on youtube anywhere... what a shame ! =-( ..

  • @Rajamuttu yea and i could also try stabbing myself with a ice pick....

  • @tigerjonn

Yes. We wouldn't want the musicians who make your music to actually get PAID, would we?

It's so much easier to steal everything .....

  • @Rajamuttu well if ur a musician who only care about getting paid, then yes, you deserve to have your music stolen. BUT if ur a REAL musician, who cares more about being HEARD than making money, then they are thrilled about having their music online, for everyone to enjoy.

  • Comment removed

  • @Rajamuttu I Dont know DR JOHN ( personally) AND, IF i never had the internet, and FILE sharing, I WOULDve never heard his music. AND the same goes for you. I dont know what kinda music you listen to, BUT how much of it, would u have never heard of, without the internet? You wouldnt buy RANDOM CDs, and see if its good or not. IN FACT, probably 80% of songs i listen to now, i wouldve never heard without the internet. MUSIC is about being heard.

  • Comment removed

  • @Rajamuttu well good for you, u buy a lot of cds, of random musicans u never heard of, or maybe your not using the internet to its fullest potential of new music from all over the world, cds u cant even find in the states. I wouldve never bought Ray Lamontagnes cd, or listen to stevie ray vaughn, nina simone, david axelrod, cal tjader, the pixies, karl heinz schafer ,Rene Costy , roland vincent, Sophy from mexico, PIERO UMILIANI, Mayer hawthorne, <<< U mean to tell me u have all of their cds?

  • LOL yea, and i work with musicians. REAL musicians. Your talkin about the old way of doing things. The musicians who dont adapt, the ones who are not gona survive like you, always bitch and complain how the things are today. The muscians who DO adapt, who USE the internet FOR THEIR cause. THEY are the ones who survive. U could bitch and whine about how things are today, OR you could adapt to how things are going to be. OVERALL the internet will be BETTER for music.,

  • Comment removed

  • LOL! DO u actually hear urself? AND SINCE WHEN is wanting to listen to DR JOHN on youtube STEALING? IS listening to dr john on the RADIO ALSO STEALING? IM NOT PAY for that am I? The fact that you dont see the connection between my arguement for INTERNET overall, being good for music and musicians, and YOU claiming that im stealing DR JOHNS music THROUGH THE INTER FUCKEN NET, is PERTTY retarded, and OBVIOUSLY, you realized you cant win tat arguement, so ur tryin to ignore it completely.

  • @tigerjonn

Your word games are tedious. Your attempts to twist the topic into something else are tedious. Your spelling is atrocious. So is your grammar and usage. Your obscenities and ad hominems are pathetic and juvenile. And dumb.

Go find something else to do with your life and leave me alone.

Maybe you can buy Dr. John's "Gris Gris" at Amoeba Music.

PS - And I don't believe for ONE MINUTE that you subscribe to KCRW.

  • @Rajamuttu LOL, wow talking shit about grammer a nd spelling, on YOUTUBE. U dont have to believe shit, Like i dont believe you work with music at all, your probably some garbage man. AND its so obviously, you ran out of things to talk shit on, AND you know you already lost this debate, so you have nothing better, then to drop down to the level, of talkin shit on grammer, and spelling.BECAUSE you know your losing the debate. the real pathetic thing is, the fact that losers cant accept thier loss.

  • @Rajamuttu So yea ill leave you alone, You just have to admit your loss. Deep in your heart, You know your a loser, BUT you dont have to be so pathetic, to start talkin shit on, GRAMMER? LOL.... < theres 4 periods there, u gona talk shit on that too? LOL. I CANT BELIEVE U USED 4 PERIODS.... LOL! its a very desperate move, to make it seem like your not a loser, but unfortunately, it failed. Because all losers, seem to do the SAME exact thing in a debate,

  • @Rajamuttu How many times, have i SHUT down stupid losers who dont know how to debate, and in their anger and frustration, They decide, LETS TALK SHIT ON HIS SPELLING AND GRAMMER! That will make me look like LESS of a loser! LOL!!! very typical. The best debaters, tend to admit loss, and usually agree to disagree, BUT the biggest losers, do exactly what you did., very petty and child like.

  • @Rajamuttu ok we see here what you are really like....baruch hashem you will learn the value of chesed which for you as a gentile is entirely possible.

    ok Roger the Raj?

  • Comment removed

  • @Rajamuttu THESE "PERIODS" are NOT called an ellipsis, cause i used 4 periods.... LOOK IT up son, look it up...

  • Comment removed

  • "Bernard Purdie? You mean "Pretty" Purdie? Yeah. I know him. I used to run sound at the Jazz Workshop in Boston" LOL I DIDNT EVEN CATCH THAT... LOL! HAHAHAHA your more dilirious then i thought... LOL YOU MEAN "PERTTY" PURDIE.. .:LOLL!!! HAHAHHAH! I COULD looks shit up on WIKI And YOUTUBE TOO! HAHAHAHHAHAH! loser.,.

  • and i do support good music stations such as KCRW.., no commericals, just music, and backed compeltely by SUPPORT by people like me. AND I LOVE how where UR from, they play great music on the radio. BUT UNFORTUNATELY not everyone is lucky as urself. AND not everyone, has money lying around to waste on CDs, of people they never heard of, just to TRY their music. BUT through the power of internet, and "stealing music" as you put it, NOW musicans have the power to reach 50% of the world.

  • Comment removed

  • @Rajamuttu SO let me get this straight, ACCORDING to you, IM STEALING DR JOHNS MUSIC, by WANTING To listen to it on YOUTUBE....

BUT, The issue, of stealing music, or sharing music on the internet, so anyone could readily listen to any music, is a TOPIC THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH you claiming im STEALING DR JOHNS MUSIC? <<< =- l ..... ? HAHAHAHHAHAHA, okay, are you being a RETARD on purpose to just piss me off? OR are you JUST RETARDED?

  • and at the end of the day, YOU cant stop the internet, and you cant undo, whats already done. SO you could ADAPT and CHANGE to it, like RADIOHeAD , who offered their album online, FOR FREE, and u could pay how much u want to pay. ORRR, you could bitch and complain, how people are not PAYING for shit, and start pointing fingers at people, calling your own fans theives, so now (metallica), your popularity goes to the shitter, and their new cd sucks balls anyways. get wit the program...

  • last point, Internet brought a whole new generation and a whole new spectrum of listeners to types of music, that wouldve never been listend too.. IF internet was not around, How many people would actually STILL be listening to Laura Nyro, or Dr John? David Axelrod, Cal Tjader, Nina Simone, The wooden glass, Ray Lamontagne, Stevie Ray Vaughn, karl heinz schafer, Sophy, < music from all over the world, Music most people wouldve never heard, without the internet,.

  • wow, so petty, lol court order? WOW, trying to bring a little creativity, i like that., thats a good try! for a 10 year old kid... if your older then 10 years old, i gota say, creativity is a little bit lacking, O and for your ... < ellipsis,... LOL, the reason why i used 4 periods, is because a ellipsis tradionally, uses only 3 PERIODS. OBVIOUSLY u didnt catch that, and you tried to be a little smartass about it. That pertty much blew up in ur face didnt it? LOL! HAHAHAH! FAIL...

  • @tigerjonn

Yes. What a shame. Then again, you could always go to a record store and BUY it. It's called "Gris Gris".

Dr. John, who is still recovering from Hurricane Katrina, could use the income.

  • SO you never seen a movie online? You never watch a TV show online? You never downloaded a single song? Your such a fucken hypacrite. I bet your talking shit about music, while your download your favorite movie, twilight, LOL! HAHAHHA! IF your against listening to music on youtube, why do you have so many videos of songs on your channel? LOL... You claim IM bothering YOU, BUT YOUR the one who started this debate in the first place.. Who is bothering WHO? WTF IS going on in this world today?

  • AND YOU think just because people listen to music online, THEY DONT SUPPORT ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH MUSIC. LOL! Well im not gona pay 20 dollars for a stupid CD that has ONE good song on it for sure. I rather go watch a LIVE show. Ive been to over 20 SHOWS in the last 2 years. Have you see RAGE AGAINST the MACHINE? hands down the best live performers since after 1990. too bad they split, Ive seen the WU TANG CLAN, < radiohead, weezer, Murs, Tribe caleld quest, jedi mind,

  • @Rajamuttu IVE seen, KRS one, IMmortal Techinque, greenday and blink, MOS def, The yeah yeah yeahs, ive seen NAS, the up in smoke tour ( snoop, eminen, dr dre, ice cube, natedog,) seen tat, Ive seen DJ tiesto, Paul van Dyke, ArmandVanHelden, ArminVanBuuren, LA Riots, The Beat Junkies, Steve Aoki, Paul Oakenfold, MSTRKRFT, Damian Marley, The roots, Talib Kwali, Raekwon, Black eyed peas, WAY WAY more. I probably support more raw MUSIC then YOU EVER did. << IM a REAL music fan, UR A WANABE.

  • @Rajamuttu wow you seem pretty harsh....whats up with that dude?

  • This defines what is Laura Nyro's genius...All of her covers, she made

her own and in my opinion they were

always better! Her music has sustained me for 40 years...

  • I couldn't live without her music. Love this.

  • I've never heard this one. It is great and has all of Laura Nyro's inimitable phrasing and soul.

  • Thank you so much for this! I loved Dr. John's original version for many years. However, this brings a whole new level to the song. Again, thank you.

  • YW! :0)

  • this is fabulous and one I have not heard !

  • what a treat! thank you!

  • You're welcome.:0)

  • i love laura nyro r.i.p.

  • this is an AMAZING find. i cannot believe this. where did you find this recording????

  • I apologize ... I meant to hit the "Thumbs Up".

  • This is great! Thanks for posting it.

I like the way she Nyro-ized it and had no qualms about altering both the chord scheme and melody to suit her. Like, her versions of "Nowhere to Run" and "The Bells," I think she improved on the material by upping the emotional ante.

  • an astute and well-put insight ! NYRO-IZED.....hee hee...

  • wow ...where did u find this one ? didn't know it existed...thanks for a rare gem.
