Would everyone just shut the fuck up about Randy or any other guitarists you ignorant unappreciative tards. Randy and others were great guitarists, and so is Eddie. Just enjoy the video. This video wasnt posted so you people coulld talk shit about guitarists you think arnt as good as EVH.
Lock yourself in a room w/your guitar, amp, a pound of weed and play your pentatonic scales until your fingers bleed, then do it again and again for similar results or better. Should take about a year.
With all due respect, I think comparing Vai to Halen to Rhoads is a never ending argument.....all 3 are killer and un touchable.
And as much as I like J Page as a producer and writer of riffs.....he is nowhere near the caliber of the other 3 guys mentioned....He had a huge influence for sure, but was way way sloppy and much less revoltuionary in his style.
LOLz at all these people trying to shit talk the godfathers of modern guitar playing. none of the people shit talking have any videos of themselves playing guitar. therefore their opinion is irrelevant, thus by my same logic as is mine. therefore creating a fallacy that can be worked and reworked into an infinite paradox spanning neither time nor space?
Where do you assclowns come up with these so called awesome axemen? Nobodys ever heard of em, cuz nobody gives a fuck about them. Not only is Ed the man on guitar, he writes alot of good tunes. Randy rhoads, gimme a fucking break, what a horrible tone that dude had, and what songs did he write? Exactly, go fuck yourself.
I'm sorry, but you are horribly mistaken. Randy Rhoads had great tone, and he wrote basically all of the guitar parts to that of Ozzy's songs, EVERY SINGLE ONE. Give me a fucking break, know your guitarists lest you down them.
Eddie plays fast, makes rythm with weird sounds and does alot of rambling on. Randy Rhoads was far better, he had great tone and direction, very disciplined picking technique, and great knowledge of music theory. You are an idiot to come on here and say stuff like that , you don't know what your talking about , and when someone calls you on it , all you can say is go fuck yourself, which is childish, how old are you 10 maybe ?
er lets see : crazy train, mr crowley, steal away the night, revalation mother earth, diary of a madman, goodbye to romance, to name a few.. as well as being credited by pretty much EVERY rock and metal guitarist as an inspiration. UR right about one thing however eddie is an amazing guitarist, but if randy had not died in 1982 he would be easily a match with eddie as he was back in the day
@Lucicsux , who fucking cares. they were both great guitar players and had very differnt styles. Eddie is more of a blues rock guy and randy was a heavy metal classical dude. As far as playing wise i find rhoads stuff more intelligent and more well thought out than eddie. I personally find randys stuff more technically challenging.
@dimebagalways not a chance...Eddie was, and still would be light years ahead of Rhoads Rhoads was ok, but not anywhere near close to what eddie has achieved, and created . He revolutionized R N R guitar, just like Hendrix did. Cheers

Are you high? Malmsteen influenced as many if not more people than EVH. There is no doubt about this. Yngwie invented Bach and Roll.I Like EVH but he and Yngwie are two seperate players and Malmsteen's Technique is a thousand times better than EVH
Malmsteen wasn't more innovative than EVH, but he was very innovative. Many people seem to forget that much of the tapping stuff Eddie does IS classical. Plus, I've heard Malmsteen rip off cathedral with his own delay piece. Also, I don't think Malmsteen's technique is ALOT better than Eddie's when Eddie was at his best. Yngwie knows more licks and runs because that is a great deal of what his songs are. But, the licks and runs that Ed does are equal, he is just more hesitant to shred constantly
That's simply not true. The average rock guitar player out there today almost certainly derives his influence from EVH, whether he knows it or not. On the other hand, most don't employ a tiresome assault of sweeps, arpeggios, and speed picking for hours on end. I like them both too, but to say that Malmsteen was more influential is ludicrous. He simply has never reached as many players as Van Halen has. Like Hendrix 20 years before him, his playing may not stand to the technical proficiency as
some of the latter day players, but without the pioneers, the latter day players would not exist. Is Malmsteen better than Hendrix, then? On some levels, yes - like Stevie Ray Vaughn, they both copped his technique and then developed it further on their own. Malmsteen will be the first to tell you how influenced he was by Jimi Hendrix, and that it's easier because we now have Hendrix to refer to. Much like Eddie V...Malmsteen will never be in that echelon of influence - period.
wat hell nah he couldn't randy would walk all over eddie i like eddie dont get mwe wrong but if randy were still alive he would walk all over him but thats just my opion
i will always enjoy watching him play because he is still a fantastic muscician and always has been, sure age, cancer, and rehab have taken their toll on his playiing, but i dont mind his solos becoming more mellow than his previously unpredictable solos, his true ability shows in his songs, focus more on that than his solos
eddie is still great. hes stil 1 of the best. he will be one of the best known guitarists for what he did with vanhalen. his best solo "eruption" was incredible
Sorry but I don't hear much of a difference between this and his 2004 solos. He is still nowhere close to his prime. And he cannot still shred with the best of them at all. Malmsteen could destroy this, hell I could destroy this. But in the late 70's and early 80's nobody was better than Edward.
I guess you don't understand the value of impact. The guy revolutionized the way rock guitar was played. A lot of what you might try to destroy him with would be based on his influence either directly, or indirectly. We all had Eddie to refer to after 1977 - if you were a player on the circuit in 1976, you simply were crushed to smithereens by him. It's not about notes and playing - it's about the impact one has. Malmsteen is great, but he has no impact - he's a re-tread of ideas that were
introduced 300 years ago, only with more simplicity. I'm not saying you're wrong...you make valid points - but it's kind of like watching a 39 year old Gretzky or Jordan, and saying "I don't see what's so special about him."
Malmsteen had no influence?! Well, I can't argue with that logic. (sarcasm)
I am well aware of his impact and he is my overall favorite player but that doesn't excuse sloppy playing and his lack of new ideas. He cannot shred with malmsteen and gilbert and a whole host of others. That doesn't really make him a worse player just not as accomplished at one aspect. It isn't that big of a deal. Eddie doesn't even recognize himself as a shredder.
Think about it people, the guy back in the day didn't have all these personal issues fucking up his creativity. When you have the support of your family(wife)a whole shitload of burdens can't bring you down. Wow! That sounded so wipped! Fuck it! He kicks ass!
your right. and i dont think he will ever write again i read an article that segussted that musicians, when they get older, have a very hard time writing new material. i guess its just something that has to do with ageing

NOW let's discuss the Vaiwashingdishes comment McDonalds has dishes? What person in their right mind thinks playing for Zappa is an under achievement
BTW this is the most boring load of masturbation I've heard in a long time
Like almost all of his solos it is just LOOK WHAT I CAN DO with little regard for the song or melodybut I would give my left nut to be able to do it!

Good points...i personally like EVH better just cuz of the guts he puts into those first few VH records.
But I agree, RR was probably a more studied musician and planned stuff out better.
Eddie just had it in him and went haywire....the VH thing from 78-84 or so.....
I just like Eddie's creations and sound better, and the first 4 VH records more than I like the OZ records.
And...had Randy lived he would have become a masterful classical guitarist who Eddie would have rqsted lessons!
