@ChromaAurora That's why you have to get good at all the roles before you start playing ranked. In normals, many times team comp doesn't really matter because people just pick whatever. TB is referencing ranked (talking about them having lowest ELO, last pick, etc), in which you shouldn't be playing unless you're comfortable with ANY role.

i used to play all random, easy mode on DOTA. A fast game with no one complaining about meta setup except for little bitches that quits at start. It was all good since we had shared banlist to tell us who these people usually are. Too bad LOL doesn't have that feature. Instead, it has an ignore list which I never use.

like in Bad Company 2 i stoped playing when i unlocked everything.. i realised later that i had a mind set of not enjoying the game but only played to unlock. It rly ruined the game for me sins if i just played for the fun of a good fps i wouldnt have adapeted to a poor mind set like playing for the unlocks.
TB's response to LoL is basically why I have given up on coop MP games completely. In order for newbies to learn, they basically have to ruin the game for vets to get practice, which is a lose-lose situation for everyone. I hate that scenario as a newbie, and I hate it as a veteran player.

We would be ready for a dungeon, then the healer (druid btw, god damnit) would go to Cat Form and start dpsing, therefore getting everyone killed, because we had no decent healer.

To everyone who argue's that they can't learn cuz people kik me and bitch, your the noob, they are the pro, they know what they're doing, you don't. Eventually, you learn what they know, or surpass them, becoming the pro. to get this far however, simply ask what you have to do and do it, whether you do it wel or not, listening and learning gets you skill. i see your point about flares, but you dont even need kills to get points towards unlockables, you could get assists, by having two of you on one jet, one of you destracting and the other trying to take them down. now there are different systems when it comes to unlockables XP scoring 100 = vechile disabled (50% or lower health) another 100 = vechile destroy, 50 = enemey killed, 50 for vechile destroy and disable assists and 25 for kill assists (not 100% sure of assists scoring).
cait is bad carry. even farmed any other ad carry will win 1v1 like tristana. yesterday started to play her and he damage is crazy. i would rely more on that urgot than cait.. at least hes tanky.
@wooterz Usually there is practice modes in games like say LoL has co-op vs AI on 2 different levels of difficulty and many youtube videos to show u how to play.

I've played CDR+Tanky Veigar. His Q stays incredibly weak but Event Horizon sets up lots of harass and can secure ganks for your jungle. It's inadequate but it's not a guaranteed loss.... jk I got sodomized. :(
I think there is a lot to be said for people meeting each other online from all other the world, people they probably haven't met, and yet it is in everyone's best interest to cooperate and work together.
That's why I believe MMOs should go toward "Self Ubringing" attitude when it comes to group play. Instead of focusing certain roles on certain individuals, game developers should introduce game mechanics which are dynamic in nature and cause a situation where every class can deal with every situation at all time. Here's an example in a new comment:
A example of a boss encounter with no static threat mechanics where the said boss constantly changes his focus target and keeps at it. Every class could use some sort of tanking mechanics: agile classes could use dodge mechanics, strength oriented classes use shield/parry with weapon mechanics, spellcasting oriented classes use mana shield-like mechanics.
After that the boss changes his focus target to a different player who tanks him. In the mean time the player who tanked him should retreat a bit and heal himself, NOT BY OTHERS. Example: strenght oriented warrior would go hardcore about it like any warrior and simply sew his wounds. a Mage could use a fiery DoT like spell where he burns up his open wounds. Priest, paladins etc their classic holy spells etc...
During all this dynamic role switching the rest of the group would simply focus on dealing damage to the boss. Here we have in total an example of a group of possibly 5 players all capable of:
- doing damage and attacking the boss when occupied
- tanking to survive the boss focus
- healing oneself in a window of oppornitunity
All this possible during a boss encounter where your role in combat changes dynamicly and keeps you on edge.
PuG never works and never will be, yes you can sometimes bump to skilled people, but even then without accepting a leader and cooperation It will not work.And if you decide to not play with people you know and who accept strategies you chose, you cant expect that from random people, because people never listen to other random people.SO If you are going to play in PuG you know what you are putting yourself in and It is only your fault, because there is a way how to play properly.
Why don't you play with YOUR friends if you are so worried about someone messing up YOUR fun? You play on pub games you're going to deal with people who aren't interested in min-maxing the team or whatever other garbage. Join a clan, get people who want to play by a strict framework and be happy. Personally, my enjoyment is kind of important because if I'm not enjoying it, why play it?
@DeadlyFredXXX exactly if you do not want to be screwed by someone, then play with friends, join guild etc. But FFS do not ever expect that PUG play will work as you wish, because It never will and you simply accept It or rage about it as totalbuscuit do all the time :)
I don't understand the last email response. If it matters so much, why don't more people pick the vital characters first so that you can't get screwed? Players will always pick who they want. In your scenarios you make it sound like the first 4 people pick exactly what they want, so the 5th person won't get their choice. It seems you're trying to say that just because some pick first and are the majority, it makes them right, I just can't agree with that.
It's not perfect. Yeah this might be an issue but as our troll mentioned you still have options out there even if your picking a specific role. I guess you might not want to play that specific role and you might preffer to do something more dynamic and exciting like dmg dealing but outside of that it boils down to this... What kind of enjoyment does one take out of selfishly gimping others in a game where gimping like that makes you lose?

I don't know what's required for a great team since I don't play (probably won't due to the hostile crowd that expects you to be a pro before your first game). I'm just commenting that in any situation, just because you are the majority does not make you right.
The situation is selfish to begin with (either someone does that or no win) so someone going along with it isnt doing anything wrong. That's just how the game is design. Nagging about it has just as much sense as everyone wanting to play tag but no one accepts to be "it", could you see sense in something like that?

@pwookie The reality is you play a game where 90% of the players are irrational. People expect you to be good but there are also people who can't swallow their pride and accept criticism.
unlocks are what make the game interesting for 90% of the people so to remove them from the game would be stupid. Unlocks motivate people to keep playing, what the game designer wants, and therefore would be crazy not to put more unlocks in and i hope they keep doing it.

I somewhat agree with TB on the second point. However, what he seems to be missing is what if the player you are sticking in bottom lane cannot play support? Even at pro level you have people who focus on a single play style, and in solo queue you do not get the liberty of ensureing you will fit perfectly in the team. @gringo533 you can't get kicked from a LoL match. Constantly harrased/trolled/insulted etc on chat - sure, but not kicked. Once you learn to not rage at assholes so hard, getting into LoL is actually not that hard.
I think TB missed the lol guys point. In ranked sure winning is important that's why it's ranked, but in normal games why should anyone care? Also why is it some people win and still are not happy? The majority is important, but if they are not having fun playing and just having fun winning then they are missing half the point of the game. Like people in wow who hate raiding or doing dungeons or questing... why are you playing? Phat lewt? Medals and achieves?
@Lordzelot666 People who hate Raiding and Dungeons things in WoW tend to be a) unskilled b) unsocial c) AD/HD or just don't have the time. WoW and MMO's are good in that way, people can decide what they want to do in it and everyone doesn't have to fit the same mould. Some just like to grind for achievements and gold. I myself can't stand either. I played for the social aspect of accomplisments with a good team and learning encounters was rewarding even tho every tactic was known already.

what i did for IR flares in BF3.... use afterburners till edge of map, turn around and go into 3rd person view and repeat till you can find some one. when you find them...happy hunting.
true,but in a jet you can actually out dodge the lock ons from the ground.If its far away but the missle is already shot you can get away, but if its a jet your toast w/o flares. luckly I got mine :D

I feel that TB was ignoring the fact that there is a NORMAL queue for players that don't care about winning. Ranked is for people who wish to increase rating, which means WINNING = PURPOSE, whereas normals mean nothing other than getting IP.

@surg23 It's not the fact that people don't like losing, it's the fact that it's a video game. Normal queue is less serious when it comes to coordinating and attempting to win the game. It's a fact. I'm not saying that any team will not attempt to win, it's just less serious of a play style going into a normal game, because at the end of the day all you are losing is IP, rather than rating.

In contrast, I would have a hard time feeling bad about losing in a video game when I got some sort of compensation bonus for losing. Isn't this the reason why many FPS games lately have perks for when you get killed too many times? Perhaps not the best solution, but at least it helps people starting out get used to the game.

BF3 has a lot of problems for me, too. I personally hate vehicle unlocks because some vehicles just seem bloody useless, while planes and choppers and even the occasional tank that doesn't fall to engineer missiles in the first 10 seconds are virtually unavailable. It took me 3 games to unlock defibs though, and infantry unlocks seem very reasonable (though the different unlocks for russia/us is absolute BS- I can play 5 matches as US and then get on as russian only to start without anything).

this is why i like halo. Everyone starts with the same weapon (except if there are different weapon loadouts) and you have to memorize maps to find the good weapons.

Equating MMORPG groups to LOL team composition is not far off. There are rare exceptions when the standard tank/healer/buff/dd doesn't work, but man you gotta be pro for that. Not casual.
I think this whole unlocking business in BF3 and COD is making a lot of people go back to the true skill FPS, Counter-Strike. Where you don't get Perks and are at a disadvantage because a player on the other team has a weapon you have to unlock. Instead you collect money each round and can spend on weapons and such making it equal for everyone. THATS HOW FPS GAMES SHOULD BE!
@Liberz03 No, thats how CSS should be. Which it is. I don't want a CSS clone when i could just go play that, CSS is very well balanced and, why would i want to go to a new game which would be imbalanced when i could just play CSS? Its good to have variety in games, and a progrresion system helps to keep people motivated. I prefer spending longer plays of BF3 and such because i feel i am progressing, but i play CSS when i just want to jump in and have some fun.

I think everyone is overreacting a bit. In this sort of game, you start out crap. In other games, you can expect to die right off the bat. If you "waste" the vehicle and a teammate has a go at you. Who gives a shit. That teammate should have got in it. I didn't get shot down constantly with no flares, and it took me an age to unlock H-S . And the jet's default weapon CAN damage tanks. And 1 tank kill/disable is about 150-200 points and you only need 200 points to get heat seekers in the jet.
I always wondered what the craze with unlocks is. I wonder if a game like BF3 could work if every single gun, attachment, gadget and soldier/squad perk thing were all available from the get go, wtf would happen. If all the weapons were just balanced with attributes (range, reload, damage, etc) and people were able to experience and find their preferences freely, would it give the game a longer lifetime? Surely gameplay does that? Are unlocks just for ADHD or something?
Unlockables are the reason I don't play newer FPS, same thing with regenerating health and limited weapon slots, it's anti fun for me rather than actually being fun.
Also, if you, yourself, are wanting to have fun pick a reasonable pick rather than ruining it for 4 other people, or you can play a single player game/coop v AI. Be considerate of others rather than yourself, it's a team game and you are being selfish for these sorts of actions.
For me I just went for the jet and upgraded through my first match and was able to be useful you can get ground kills from the jet just get miles away from the battle, fairly high up and then slowly come donw on a flag and you can see them and fire.

@kahzow Go plant landmines as engineer. Kill yourself and then spawn in a jet next time it lets you. Then dont take off. If a landmine kills an enemy while you in a jet it gives you jet points. Yes it blows to have to do this.
You still take it, a few losses for the team? So what, that loss will not ruin their day and the later you start the harder it gets (everyone else is unlocking by the dozens)

what are you talking about ? flares take like 300 points to unlock, it takes maybe 5 min to get that, once you have flares your are just as strong as EVERY other jets. Flares reload faster than heatseeker can lock.

Your point about MOBA games fits Battlefield as well mate.
If in BF you suck at flying but find it "fun" your team could very well loose, if the top pilot can't get into a plane. It is quite clear that you are a pretty hardcore MOBA player but a BF noob. I am the opposite, and have been flying a chopper since DC and had absolutely no trouble getting the unlocks in a single day of playing. Play what you are best at, and your team will win.
@Rickynator120 That is probably due to your normal game elo being high, and when you start out in ranked you play with others who are new to ranked. If you pushed through you'd see that the current meta will be applied in all ranked games, imitated, and nice clean matches can be the result. It can also result in a terrible bashing by either team but hey, that's up to the skill level of all the players and how well they work together really.
for Qu 2, i hate noobs who take tanks in BF3, exspecially on 1 tank per team maps, they just camp counting kills than actually helping the team taking flags and not suprizingly we get whitewashed .....

like in Bad Company 2 i stoped playing when i unlocked everything.. i realised later that i had a mind set of not enjoying the game but only played to unlock. It rly ruined the game for me sins if i just played for the fun of a good fps i wouldnt have adapeted to a poor mind set like playing for the unlocks.

TB's response to LoL is basically why I have given up on coop MP games completely. In order for newbies to learn, they basically have to ruin the game for vets to get practice, which is a lose-lose situation for everyone. I hate that scenario as a newbie, and I hate it as a veteran player.

i see your point about flares, but you dont even need kills to get points towards unlockables, you could get assists, by having two of you on one jet, one of you destracting and the other trying to take them down. now there are different systems when it comes to unlockables XP scoring 100 = vechile disabled (50% or lower health) another 100 = vechile destroy, 50 = enemey killed, 50 for vechile destroy and disable assists and 25 for kill assists (not 100% sure of assists scoring).

I've played CDR+Tanky Veigar. His Q stays incredibly weak but Event Horizon sets up lots of harass and can secure ganks for your jungle. It's inadequate but it's not a guaranteed loss.... jk I got sodomized. :(

That's why I believe MMOs should go toward "Self Ubringing" attitude when it comes to group play. Instead of focusing certain roles on certain individuals, game developers should introduce game mechanics which are dynamic in nature and cause a situation where every class can deal with every situation at all time. Every class could use some sort of tanking mechanics: agile classes could use dodge mechanics, strength oriented classes use shield/parry with weapon mechanics, spellcasting oriented classes use mana shield-like mechanics.

After that the boss changes his focus target to a different player who tanks him. In the mean time the player who tanked him should retreat a bit and heal himself, NOT BY OTHERS. Example: strenght oriented warrior would go hardcore about it like any warrior and simply sew his wounds. a Mage could use a fiery DoT like spell where he burns up his open wounds. Priest, paladins etc their classic holy spells etc...

During all this dynamic role switching the rest of the group would simply focus on dealing damage to the boss. Here we have in total an example of a group of possibly 5 players all capable of:
- doing damage and attacking the boss when occupied
- tanking to survive the boss focus
- healing oneself in a window of oppornitunity
All this possible during a boss encounter where your role in combat changes dynamicly and keeps you on edge.

PuG never works and never will be, yes you can sometimes bump to skilled people, but even then without accepting a leader and cooperation It will not work.And if you decide to not play with people you know and who accept strategies you chose, you cant expect that from random people, because people never listen to other random people.SO If you are going to play in PuG you know what you are putting yourself in and It is only your fault, because there is a way how to play properly.

Why don't you play with YOUR friends if you are so worried about someone messing up YOUR fun? You play on pub games you're going to deal with people who aren't interested in min-maxing the team or whatever other garbage. Join a clan, get people who want to play by a strict framework and be happy. Personally, my enjoyment is kind of important because if I'm not enjoying it, why play it?

I don't understand the last email response. If it matters so much, why don't more people pick the vital characters first so that you can't get screwed? Players will always pick who they want. In your scenarios you make it sound like the first 4 people pick exactly what they want, so the 5th person won't get their choice. It seems you're trying to say that just because some pick first and are the majority, it makes them right, I just can't agree with that.

I don't know what's required for a great team since I don't play (probably won't due to the hostile crowd that expects you to be a pro before your first game). I'm just commenting that in any situation, just because you are the majority does not make you right.

unlocks are what make the game interesting for 90% of the people so to remove them from the game would be stupid. Unlocks motivate people to keep playing, what the game designer wants, and therefore would be crazy not to put more unlocks in and i hope they keep doing it.

I somewhat agree with TB on the second point. However, what he seems to be missing is what if the player you are sticking in bottom lane cannot play support? Even at pro level you have people who focus on a single play style, and in solo queue you do not get the liberty of ensureing you will fit perfectly in the team. Sure it might be more beneficial for me to play Sona, until you see me play her... Then u just rage because I suck Sona.

I think TB missed the lol guys point. In ranked sure winning is important that's why it's ranked, but in normal games why should anyone care? Also why is it some people win and still are not happy? The majority is important, but if they are not having fun playing and just having fun winning then they are missing half the point of the game. Like people in wow who hate raiding or doing dungeons or questing... why are you playing? Phat lewt? Medals and achieves?

WoW and MMO's are good in that way, people can decide what they want to do in it and everyone doesn't have to fit the same mould. Some just like to grind for achievements and gold. I myself can't stand either. I played for the social aspect of accomplisments with a good team and learning encounters was rewarding even tho every tactic was known already.

what i did for IR flares in BF3.... use afterburners till edge of map, turn around and go into 3rd person view and repeat till you can find some one. when you find them...happy hunting.

@surg23 It's not the fact that people don't like losing, it's the fact that it's a video game. Normal queue is less serious when it comes to coordinating and attempting to win the game. It's a fact. I'm not saying that any team will not attempt to win, it's just less serious of a play style going into a normal game, because at the end of the day all you are losing is IP, rather than rating.

@surg23 Not too much logic here. If you get into a fight where you could be beat up, your health is at stake. It's not as if you're not wagering anything.
In contrast, I would have a hard time feeling bad about losing in a video game when I got some sort of compensation bonus for losing. Isn't this the reason why many FPS games lately have perks for when you get killed too many times? Perhaps not the best solution, but at least it helps people starting out get used to the game.

I personally don't know anyone, especially within the LoL community that doesen't care about winning or losing. The whole game revolves around that mentality. You only need play one game on any mode to realize how much people care about winning and hate losing.

BF3 has a lot of problems for me, too. I personally hate vehicle unlocks because some vehicles just seem bloody useless, while planes and choppers and even the occasional tank that doesn't fall to engineer missiles in the first 10 seconds are virtually unavailable. It took me 3 games to unlock defibs though, and infantry unlocks seem very reasonable (though the different unlocks for russia/us is absolute BS- I can play 5 matches as US and then get on as russian only to start without anything).

I think this whole unlocking business in BF3 and COD is making a lot of people go back to the true skill FPS, Counter-Strike. Where you don't get Perks and are at a disadvantage because a player on the other team has a weapon you have to unlock. Instead you collect money each round and can spend on weapons and such making it equal for everyone. THATS HOW FPS GAMES SHOULD BE!

@Liberz03 No, thats how CSS should be. Which it is. I don't want a CSS clone when i could just go play that, CSS is very well balanced and, why would i want to go to a new game which would be imbalanced when i could just play CSS? Its good to have variety in games, and a progrresion system helps to keep people motivated. I prefer spending longer plays of BF3 and such because i feel i am progressing, but i play CSS when i just want to jump in and have some fun.

I think everyone is overreacting a bit. In this sort of game, you start out crap. In other games, you can expect to die right off the bat. If you "waste" the vehicle and a teammate has a go at you. Who gives a shit. That teammate should have got in it. I didn't get shot down constantly with no flares, and it took me an age to unlock H-S . And the jet's default weapon CAN damage tanks. And 1 tank kill/disable is about 150-200 points and you only need 200 points to get heat seekers in the jet.

I always wondered what the craze with unlocks is. I wonder if a game like BF3 could work if every single gun, attachment, gadget and soldier/squad perk thing were all available from the get go, wtf would happen. If all the weapons were just balanced with attributes (range, reload, damage, etc) and people were able to experience and find their preferences freely, would it give the game a longer lifetime? Surely gameplay does that? Are unlocks just for ADHD or something?

Unlockables are the reason I don't play newer FPS, same thing with regenerating health and limited weapon slots, it's anti fun for me rather than actually being fun.
Also, if you, yourself, are wanting to have fun pick a reasonable pick rather than ruining it for 4 other people, or you can play a single player game/coop v AI. Be considerate of others rather than yourself, it's a team game and you are being selfish for these sorts of actions.

For me I just went for the jet and upgraded through my first match and was able to be useful you can get ground kills from the jet just get miles away from the battle, fairly high up and then slowly come donw on a flag and you can see them and fire.

i cant even get my first jet unlock on practice servers, i dont want to try it on a real server because i dont want to let the team down, so what do i do now? its really making my gameplay not fun at all

@kahzow Go plant landmines as engineer. Kill yourself and then spawn in a jet next time it lets you. Then dont take off. If a landmine kills an enemy while you in a jet it gives you jet points. Yes it blows to have to do this.

what are you talking about ? flares take like 300 points to unlock, it takes maybe 5 min to get that, once you have flares your are just as strong as EVERY other jets. Flares reload faster than heatseeker can lock.
That thing about the needs of the many is bull, thoses guys pay the same as everyone else they own you noting. Also if ppl arent playing "right" fine, but ppl are such c*nt about it...

Your point about MOBA games fits Battlefield as well mate.
If in BF you suck at flying but find it "fun" your team could very well loose, if the top pilot can't get into a plane. It is quite clear that you are a pretty hardcore MOBA player but a BF noob. I am the opposite, and have been flying a chopper since DC and had absolutely no trouble getting the unlocks in a single day of playing. Play what you are best at, and your team will win.

@Rickynator120 That is probably due to your normal game elo being high, and when you start out in ranked you play with others who are new to ranked. If you pushed through you'd see that the current meta will be applied in all ranked games, imitated, and nice clean matches can be the result. It can also result in a terrible bashing by either team but hey, that's up to the skill level of all the players and how well they work together really.
