  • you can't hide quality.Top tackle this. S.B.

Follow this with 'walking distance' by the buzzcocks......trust me it works.

  • Thank you...I missed these guys so much...

  • "Sometimes when I have time to kill, I watch the world outside my window"

  • Bill Nelson was a fucking God! He remains my favorite guitarist. Be Bop Deluxe remains one of my favorite bands.

  • Punks loved it....then and now.

  • ok my room is a model of design

  • i want to join the existing pole shift survival group or start the new one.

  • Some were taken aback by the shift in style from BBD to RN, but what a record. Saw Bill in LA back in '81 at the Roxy when he was touring to get an American deal (eventually signed on Epic) and they played a KILLER version of this one. Great track with an absolutely brilliant middle-8...

  • In case you did not know Bill is playing with a 7 piece band in London on March 26th 2011, as part of an ITV Legends Programme

  • It was just slightly out of its time - in 1980 or 81 it would have been top ten, but 1979? It's not immediate enough to have attracted much airplay then, whereas playlists in the early 80s suddenly became a bit more experimental after the demise of disco. (And I'm a disco fan, but this is pretty good anyways).

  • I like "Aqcuitted by Mirrors" too.

  • @datosen Amazing track..One of the best b sides ever

  • Oh, yes. Another lost treasire located.

    Thanks for posting :o)

  • The Reason I Play Guitar

  • urgh, this was the first album I was ever old enough to buy. Not too many better things to do than learning the lyrics off by heart at 7! Thanks Bill! still love it

  • I guess the future Talking Heads listened and liked Bill Nelson.

  • @wreed22 i know, this sounds just like talking heads. i don't know which came first though

  • I bought the album when it first came out,I couldn't stop playing it. Anyway, time and years pass by and we move from one musical influence to another then the internet age is upon us and Youtube appears and our sense's are re-awoken to this stunningly beautiful and masterful piece of work (plus many others of course). Many thanks for posting and re-igniting an old fire ;-)

  • Even after all these years this still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

    Long live the Echo Observatory

  • An absolute classic album.I remember listening to it on the John Peel radio show.

Bill was and still is a serious talent

  • I agree, Bill rocks, saw him during the modern music album in downtown, Miami Florida. Great, Ultra fabulously Great Band...jb

  • Brilliant! I can hear the influence he has had on so many so-called modern acts.

  • As one who lived thru this fantastic era, i can say i enjoyed all of Bill Nelson's brilliant compostions and for anyone to suggest he is deriviative is plain ignorant.

XTC and Wire whilst brilliant emerged in the punk era whereas Bill was a major star well before this time.

  • According to one interview, Bill said Harvest/EMI hated the Sound on Sound album and had called his manager wanting to know why was he making this ugly music.

  • Can someone please upload "Wondertoys That Last Forever"? I love it but I can't find it anywhere.

  • Great one, thank you.

  • I have this too, it still is a fantastic record, I loved Be Bop Delux too !!

  • nice one there goldenhinde. good tune this , wasnt bill from wakefield west yorkshire . we seem,d to have more music to choose from back then a bit spoilt im glad to say . good to here again thanks .

  • andrea...think XTC may have been a long time after Bill started,so other way round perhaps?

  • You know what? Any Clark never got the recognition he deserved for both Drastic Plastic and RN Sound-on-Sound. He is an incredible keyboard player.

  • Awesome! Where the hell was I ,when this was happening?

  • XTC influences? Watered down Wire?

  • takes me back, newcastle City hall early 70s. bliss!

  • Saw Rednoise live and if I remember rightly Dave Mattacks of Fairport Convention was on drums... Fantastic show and great album..

  • i own a 7inch copy on red vinyl.

    wot a tune,

  • I can't believe that no one has posted "out of touch" on here, can't find it anywhere. Someone please post "out of touch", if you have a copy of The Old Grey Whistle Test version with the black & white cartoon that would be a big bonus.

  • not the grey whistle test version, but can upload it sometime

  • @jerprice1 I have the Blue 45 record with live out of touch I can try to convert it

  • brilliant song I havent heard in many years. probably since I heard it on John Peel about 1979, thanks for posting this gem.

  • Ya know... this guy should have monuments built to him for his contributions to music and art, but for the most part, the majority of upright-walking knuckle-dragging media-lobotomized masses are so out the f*cking evolutionary loop they wouldn't see it coming if it hit them in the face.

  • Great music and lyrics, still remembered it all these years later to think of searching for it. Thanks for posting it. I love the second 'raiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnn'.

  • I love the red noise b-side-

    Dancing Music-amazing

  • Little known fact...Bill's on drums....

  • Wonderful Song and the b-sides were great too. "Acquitted by Mirrors" is my favourite Bill song ever, why was it not on the re-master of the album from a couple of years back?

Record Companies have no clue, and they wonder why they are becoming extinct!

  • WOW ! Most be one of the coolest songs ever made!

  • Far away from everything, Bills SoundonSound smash tings, one of the most important album.

  • What a ground breaking track. It was only when I searched Youtube I realized the link with Erik Satie

  • wow i bought the album about 15 yrs ago..its one classic piece of music in my op it still way ahead of time...immortality music

    andy

  • Still have my red vinyl 45 !

  • Have to agree Bill Nelsons Red Noise way ahead of its time still have album fantasic great post

  • Do any live videos of Red Noise exist? Yet to see one on You Tube. Sound-onSound is one of the 5 Greatest LP's of all time.

  • great album..liked the album cover with the robot made up of household parts

  • Is this from 1979 or 2979? Synthpop rocks.

  • great clip!.i recall seeing red noise at drury lane theatre 1979?fantastic band ..they all come on dressed as chairman mao!!love bill nelson

  • Wonderful, wonderful track. I used to play this obsessively when it was first released.

  • Yes, this was great stuff. I loved playing Bill Nelson's Red Noise and his work with Be Bop Deluxe when I was a DJ on WFUV in New York back around that same time... 1979 to 1980. Gary Numan and the Thompson Twins also captured some of the fun music of this time, but I'm still partial to Bill Nelson's work.

  • Great song from a great album.

  • This most be the best Rock´n Roll track ever, so clever music Bill make....You know that a Italian Design Magazine wright an article about this song.

  • 1 of the best songs ever, except for 'revolt into style' being even more iconic!

    GENIUS

  • Truly great. Shame no-one has the live performance off the OGWT. Magic.

  • brings me back to high school and exploring new music and art with my first love. good times.

  • I searched for over 20 years to find this music again and now I have it on CD! I love this album!

"I bought a miracle cure the the guarantee has run out"
