I know dogs that like to jump on the table and stay there all the time because they think they get more attention that way. Show dogs especially champions are happy and well tempered dog.

there are over 200 breeds recognized in my country's kennel club, it will be similar in other place of the world, some dog are showed in a natural/working condition. If you don't like show coat on shihtzu, find sth suits your taste but don't blame people who are into it. Dogs don't enjoy show rings are unlikely being shown because they won't score well any way. Shihtzus are bred as companion dogs, they enjoy sitting on laps and couches.

@mrsteralee the hairstyles look much better on those sweet, precious pooches! i bet its hard to maintain though and i also bet a dog can win dog shows AND live a normal life like walks around the neighborhood and most ppl stop to pet those angels! very friendly doggies!

It is because I adore and love dogs, I would never put my dogs through the ridiculous life of a show dog. I love my dogs to be natural, with all the conveniences of life, daily walks on the beach, sleeping in my bedroom and the FOOD, a dogs dream, biologically appropriate food, fresh vegetables and fruit, oats, eggs and meat, as well as bones. And guess what, I am also a dog groomer of 12 years. with my own business!

@swissmaid Hi, I am actually a dog groomer too with my own business. I have the same thoughts as you. I like quick shortish back and sides hehe and lots of loving and fun. The gorgeous hairstyles are for the owners unfortunately and not for the dogs. I must admit some dogs love the pampering but for some poor show dogs its the only form of affection/attention they get so they like it. Imagine taking one of those dogs for a great run to the beach - OMG Dreadlocks hehe.

my dog loves going to shows..if he didnt i wouldnt take him, its good socialisation for them..its obviously not your hobby probably something you like doing hobby wise would be a waste of time to me..and remember dog shows are fashion shows for dogs so they have to look the part

i bred my shihtzu myself i own his father and mother and his grandfather and gt grandfather and i havent bred a litter in 4 years so im not a puppy breeder, my dogs are for pleasure and company not just for shows..i have owned dogs that didnt like showing so they are pets at home. all my dogs go for walks twice a day and when we are at a dog show they are just on the table for preparation.. you know nothing about what you are talking so mind your own business

if you read my message properly i said its good socialisation for them i didnt say it was my dogs only way out..i have a dog grooming salon and some dogs are so nervous and frightened because the owners never take them anywere for socialisation.. i groom my own dog and he loves the attention he gets very relaxed and usually falls asleep..you obviously dont like dogs

And the only way out is by going to a dog show (where it will be placed on a table not being able to move for an hour while people fiddle with its hair) Nice. I can assure you that dog didn't come from a pet store! Does it look like a puppy mill dog to you?? The seventeen champion Shih Tzus I raised slept most of the time while being groomed, so get a clue before spewing out your drivel

i'm sorry if i look at the bigger picture. As i said before, i care for dogs on an all higher scale then you. I and many others like me are the one who rescue and look after the poor dog after it hits middle age and is thrown away because he/ she is no longer wanted by the one involved in these outlets. And they look like any other pet store dog to me. Which could easily mean puppy mill. how do you tell the difference?

Its a dog show!!!! dogs are suposed to look like that i as a dog show handler think before you open your mouth and trash what the dog looks like you should read a breed standard book. If that dog didnt look like that it would be disqulified!
