The idea of a 'self' is the false part of your assumption. Deny thy self; as ALL spiritual traditions will tell you. The self is just a thought and when the brain no longer works then the self no long is. Don't be concerned about the future, instead concern yourself with today and let tomorrow concern for itself.
I'm not afraid of god because he doesn't exist. I used to be Christian and I believed absolutely that I loved Jesus; that he would take caree of me no matter what. And then I started thinking about all those who are supposed to go to hell and be tortured for eternity simply for not believing, and I realized that even if god did exist, I could not love him because that would require me to become a monster as well. I would rather not exist than worship a sadistic character like god.
