and the left and right side of my brain are connected so i think its wholly possible that thinking about things is an instinct. sorry that i got frustrated
why haven't there been any cedric interviews lately? every now and then they get omar by himself but i'm starting to miss my other big-haired friend :(
well fuck me for spending any time durin my life to think and ask why. sometimes i can't help it its not like im trying to "intellectualize" maybe we all have intellect and just cant help but have a guttural intellectual moment sometimes. this interview is just that, for example. oh, and i do always make sure to tell my girlfriend I love her because words are a form of communication of feeling and just because i say it often doesn't mean i dont mean it as much as i can mean it every time
@Bizdet You've taken this awful personally. Yes we all have intellect, it's what distinguishes us from other animals. If you're thinking at all you're intellectualizing. There's no such thing as a guttural intellectualism. The intellect is from the left brain, the "guttural" or intuitive comes from the right brain. They react to each other, but never do they meet as you suggest.
@parallelogramammoth yeah i guess i did. its stupid to throw it out huge black and white definitions of things. Like some other people have said on here - they cant help but sometimes analyze things. i kind of feel that when i instinctually analyze lyrics or other details, that i get an even deeper emotion from it then. like if you think about philosophy, you start to feel really really deep and thats an emotion too. . . animals do think , so they intellectualize too.
i think they are right on with the ideas of music and i would totally be cool with being in that band as difficult and frustraiting as it might be (since the way they record) And im sure any fan of Mars Volta would say they would love to participate in the band but the reality is that it would probably be a biatch. Especially for the drummers lol. Although i would be pumped to hear the finished product before its out of the editing phase.
I don't agree with them being pretentious. They're totally cool with who they are, what they love, what they do, and how they do it. That's all they're saying- the 'a lot of people do this and that wrong' -statement comes up a lot, but when they say that they're often right and just only mentioning those people. It doesn't mean they view themselves as being above all people in the first place, and second it does mean that they just view what they do and how they do it as their favorite ways.
i'm not try to judge you, or something like that, but why do you say that? I think they are very honest with the fans and the people who listen them. And it's not their fault if they do things that nobody do, and stil sound fresh and great,
its not that... bixler-zavala just has this air of "im better than everybody else and they might not understand me but thats because im a genius" about him
rodriguez-lopez doesnt really, its just bixler-zavala
and hes not even that good of a singer or lyricist, its rodriguez-lopez's production that makes him good
Strange.. because when I started to watch TMV interviews I felt that but in relation of omar and never with cedric. But now, i can see I was just trying to "judge him", for whatever reason, maybe because because I'm jealous of his talent. :P
Anyway, I'm not saying that's your case. In the end I think they complement each other very well, and I mus agree that omar has a "bigger head". cheers
only thing i can disagree with omar and ced is about intellectualizing music. its my personality to overanalyze everything, especially my main interest which is music. im fascinated by the complexity of their music that i must listen for every detail whether i know it was purposely done or not. my personality constrains me from listening to boring three-chord wonders. but at the same time i can still appreciate the expression of emotions in their songs cause its the purpose of music i understand
I agree. the complexity of the music means that i must overanalyze, but for a different reason. i am a drummer. this means that when i hear a song that i like, the first thought that comes to my mind is "i am going to learn how to play this". with the Mars volta, well... is it possible to learn to play goliath (which is in 17/4) or wax simulacra (which is in 6/8) without overanalyzing?
What's wrong with this world where we can't just sit back and enjoy life. Enjoy the music.
It's possible to play in 17/4 time without and 6/8 without realizing you are doing it. I am a musician and I play music without inventing the overanalytical shit. I just play and feel. It comes from somewhere far beyond what we know. Listen to tool's lateralus bro. Great song and great album.
Music is a language. Lets just enjoy the conversations we have ehh?
no it's called introverted thinking, and without it I probably wouldn't like this band as much. I play music that I "feel" as well, I'm just able to be objective and realize what qualifies as amazing. Music is a language. Generic radio hits are small talk, The Mars Volta is one of the deepest conversations you'll be part of. I agree music is about emotion, but for some it still requires a lot of analyzing.
Iff you doing analyze the details your obviously missing the intire experiencie. To compreende the harmonic and melodic relationships between the instruments, each bassdrum note, the reverb of the voice, the wah of the guitar, trying to comprehend the recording complexity behind it...i mean...you HAVE to at least repeate some individual parts sometimes to get that kind of fisical form of music into your head. I've always seen music to be inside the head and not in the ears
when they came to SC a fat kid infront of me interupted the song by shouting out at a memeber and cedric shut him down, TMV is the kinda band that doesnt really have a break during songs to ramble so why open your mouth
Fuck, I shoulda just enjoyed the god damn relationship xp
